It's National Walking Day, so hit the trail
Apr 4, 2012 5:34 PM

Although it's perhaps a no-brainer that walking is good for you, the American Heart Association has made it official by proclaiming today to be National Walking Day, And it's a good reminder for all of us to grab our walking shoes and go for a stroll.

As a nation, we're becoming more inactive, and research shows that poor lifestyle is a major contributor to heart disease. In our guide to preventing heart disease, we have several tools and tips on how you can protect your heart, including staying active.

So grab a walking buddy, get out there and aim for 30 minutes at a brisk pace. Pedometers can keep track of your progress. For more see our pedometer Ratings (available to subscribers).
