Trader Joe's California Estate olive oil. Just $6 for a 16.9-ounce bottle. It was excellent in our tests: strong, complex, and very fresh-tasting. It pairs especially well with bread and salad, our testers say.

Columbia Crest Grand Estates cabernet sauvignon and Bogle chardonnay. Both scored Very Good in our tests by expert tasters and were just $10 per bottle. We assessed 2008 and 2009 vintages, respectively, though more recent vintages shouldn't differ very much.
