Love aside, for some folks the best part of getting married is the bridal registry.
The most elaborate of wish lists, a bridal registry allows the couple to dream big. Stunning china and crystal stemware, cutlery with hard-to-pronounce names, and cookware from France that’s the color of the summer sky—these are the material rewards for true love.
When do-it-yourselfers fall in love, their dreams of building a life together might mean a bridal registry at a big-box retailers like Lowe’s or Home Depot. Lovebirds can fill their wish list with chain saws, lawn mowers, hedge trimmers, ladders, and the like and publish it online.
Love is grand. Or make that “grands” for couples whose registry doesn't shy away from including items like washing machines, refrigerators, and other major appliances for the kitchen and laundry.—Kimberly Janeway
Have you researched the steam mop, the one that cleans with steam only, no detergents?
Hi,
Looking for consumer reports info on carpet shampooers. Doesn't CR rate these? Both spot cleaners and up-rights?
Hi Kathleen,
No not the steam mop as I think that is for hard floors? I am looking for carpet. I have a kitty who likes to eat grass and well you know....CW
Kathleen--
I work for a TV station in Pittsburgh and we do a product testing franchise called "Does It Really Do That." While I would by NO MEANS claim to put products to the test as thoroughly as Consumer Reports does, we did indeed test a product called the H2O Mop, which is what I think you were asking about. Our tester liked it on hard floors (wood, ceramic, etc.) but the carpet cleaning attachment didn't work very well. You can watch the story here:
http://kdka.com/consumer/H2O.mop.consumer.2.642719.html
Hope this helps.
Anne
I'm wondering about buying a carpet shampooer and can't seem to find any info. How about it?
I, too, have cats. I need to buy a carpet shampooer, either spot or upright. I keep seeing different ones on HSN, etc. but can't find any valid reviews. Can't believe CR doesn't rate them. EVERYONE has pets!
Yeah, I need information on carpet shampooers as well.
In the past, I've had nothing but VERY BAD LUCK with them.
THIS TIME, I want to check reviews first before buying but am
now coming up empty. Any recommendations? I need something
which won't break down after a few uses. Reliability is a big
issue here.
I'm looking to buy a carpet shampooer also, but I haven't got a clue if they're worth the money or whether to continue renting a commercial model. Also, I'd appreciate any feedback about Hoover over Bissell. Thanks.
Yes You NEED A review on deep Cleaners/Steam Cleaners! I can't believe this hasn't been done!!
I also NEED A review on deep Cleaners/Steam Cleaners
I have been trying to find a reliable shampooer for years.
Why doesn't CS review them? Nearly EVERYONE has pets or kids! PLEASE HELP US!!
I have been pleased with my Bissell carpet cleaner, but it has now broken after several years of hard use. I do believe I got my money's worth and plan to buy another one, but I would like to have the Consumer Reports research info to back me up. Any plans on doing a carpet cleaner review?
Yes, I'm here searching for ratings on carpet shampooers and can't find anything. Definitely needed.
I'm looking for info on purchasing a carpet steam cleaner and see the other comments requesting same information.
So far I'm between a Hoover and Royal. Do you have any results on these brands?
My 3 year old Hoover carpet shampoo cleaner has been a good investment. It is a handy machine with swiveling brushes that sweeps up pet hair and a strong suction that pulls the hot water back out. This machine is more efficent, easier to use and the carpet dries in a shorter time than the heavy rentals we have tried. It is the same size as my Hoover upright vacuum and just as easy to store.
Also have used it to scrub tile floors with good results. I see they now have one called "all-terrain" made for that but it is more expensive.
Yes, please carpet cleaner/shampooer reviews please. Obviously there is a need.
I remember years ago consumer reports had an article on carpet shampooers. That's what I used to buy my current one, a Hoover steam vac. I've had it for 12 years roughly. No problems. I find it hard to believe CR hasn't updated their info. I guess that's another reason I'll probably not renew my subscription this year.
I also would love a review for carpet cleaners from CR!! I need an upright for shampooing my entire house. I remember seeing a review on CR about this long ago and they said that hiring it out is the way to get the best results, but I want to do it myself and need to be able to compare products.
Last year I searched around dozens of review websites before I bought a BISELL SPOT BOT and I LOVE it! It works great and still works as well as it did the first time. Some of my long-time set-in stains haven't come out completely but most come right up. It is a fabulous product. I got the "pet" version just because the store was out of the regular, but after some research... they are the same thing. Would definitely recommend the spot bot!
I just paid almost $300 to have my carpets cleaned. Carpet steam cleaners seem to go for about $300, so it would pay for itself after the first use, but before I spend that much I'd like to know which one to choose. How about some ratings on these?
Yes, please, a review of carpet cleaners is something i would really, really like to see.
I subscribed to find carpet shampooers. Now it's a waste?
I, too, am looking for carpet steam cleaner reviews.
I would like some guidance on buying a carpet shampooer too. Does CR read this forum?
We just 'rescued' two basset hounds in February... within a couple of months, my carpets and rugs were showing the dirt, oil, etc. from our lovable new additions... after having them (the carpets that is) professionally 'steam-cleaned'. We really cannot afford to have the carpets cleaned every couple of months and need to purchase a 'steam cleaner'. Can CR give me any help on this... PLEASE!!
Add me to the list. I really need a carpet cleaner review. We have two dogs and a cat. Carpet cleaning is way expensive and I really want to buy a cleaner. Thanks!
Wow, here's a shocker. Wife's out shopping and is going to pick up a Carpet Cleaner to replace our old and not very good one. So I thought I would hop on Consumer Reports and read the reviews. None. I can't believe that. After suscribing to the Mag or now to Online for 16 years this is the first time they didn't have a review on something that everyone of us has a need for.
We will have to buy a carpet steamer this weekend as we have 14 people coming next weekend for dinner- Thanksgiving(Canadian) weekend. Too bad CR couldnt help us. It looks like we will buy a Bissell at Costco.
I am looking for a rating on carpet shampooers as well. When can we expect CR to do so?
Hi, CR!!
I've been looking for the past 4 years for ratings on carpet shampooers, and I am amazed to discover that you don't rate them!!! Please add me to the list of longtime subscribers that really needs ratings/recommendations on carpet shampooers!!! Several of us have asked whether you're reading these forums or not - if you are, can you tell us what we need to do to have this added as a category?? Thanks! We have 3 dogs and 2 cats and are buying carpet cleaners every other year and have yet to find one that can take monthly use and not fall apart. Also, if anyone out there knows whether the Rug Doctor machine now for sale for home use (this machine is blue, not red like the rentals) is worth the $600-$700 I see it advertised for, we'd love to know!
I'd like to purchase a carpet steam cleaner (for home use), please consider reviewing them. Thanks much!
We are also looking for reviews on carpet steam cleaners so that we make a wise purchase.
I'm looking for info on steam mops like Bissell and shark.
In the "new economy" we have to make our old carpets last. Getting them professionally cleaned is expensive. I'd really like to hear reports on carpet cleaners for residential use.
Wow! I am also in shock that there are NO CR reviews/ratings on carpet cleaners/ steam cleaners/ shampooers. There is an obvious need. CR we are counting on you. Fill this need.
I have had a Bissel, but the container finally broke where the lid latches. Now it will not work. Other than that the unit works great, but the replacement container I ordered doesn't seat well at the suction return for the water extraction from the carpet. I have installed carpets professionally for the last 15 years, and I must say that if you are not careful when cleaning your carpets with steam or water, you can ruin the carpet. Carpet is put together with latex glues, and the backing of the carpet will seperate if you put to much water into the carpet. The carpet mills lately have been using less glue or more filler in their glues so the problem is worse than ever. If you want to see what I'm talking about, take a scrap piece of carpet and get it wet, the mesh or soft backing (depending on manufacturer) will seperate from the rest of the carpet. This is called delamination in the industry. This causes your carpets to loosen, or wrinkle.
We had a kitten adopt my hubby, and now I find myself in need of a carpet cleaner. Hubby only wants steam, to kill the germs. Please, please, please do a review in the near future....I can't take it anymore!
I am looking for a review of carpet shampooers/steam cleaners. When can we expect one?
Add me to the list of those needing a carpet shampooer. I am also interested in the different types of carpet cleaning services - Chem clean (a dry process), steam cleaners, and the regular shampoo service. I have been told that once a carpet is shampooed that they get dirty faster because the chemicals residue in the clearners attract dirt. That may be a crock but it appears true. I have only lived in this house for 1 year and I have had the rugs cleaned twice already. Now it seems they are dirty again. Help.
Ditto to all of the above requests for reviews of carpet shampooers/steam cleaners...ASAP!
I just signed up for a year's membership online, primarily to find out about carpet cleaner/shampooers, and now see that you haven't made a report on them.
Is there a previous year's report that I can refer to?
I really need to buy one that is lightweight, narrow and does a good job cleaning and killing bacteria. Would you recommend the Bissell Quicksteamer Lightweight deep cleaner?
Hello, Consumer Reports, are you out there and are your listening???? We're begging you for a review of carpet cleaners. Apparently its something the public wants to know about!
I know CR has to plan out its reviewing process way ahead of time, but it would be nice to know when/if a review is coming. I need to replace the water container on my Hoover, but maybe I should just get a new one. I have also heard that if you do not rinse and dry with a steam cleaner, either do it yourself or professionally, dirt is attracted to the residue and that is why carpets seem to get so dirty so fast after cleaning. Makes sense. So, what carpet cleaner rinses cleaning and efficiently? Sounds like a good question for Consumer Reports, doesn't it?
I,too, have pets and have decided to pruchase a steam carpet cleaner instead of paying high prices to have my carpets cleaned frequently. I just logged on to consumerreports.org to help me make a decision so add me to the list of those who need info in this department. (10+ year subscriber and online member as well...)
Thanks!
I guess I will have to add my comments. I too just signed in to get a review on carpet cleaners and did not find one. I have also been looking at the steam floor cleaners and I am not sure if they are worth it. Very disappointed.
One of the primary reasons I had renewed my / our subscription to Consumer Reports Online was to have the ability to review carpet cleaners for overall performance in general and specifically attachements clearners ability to clean apulstory (e.g. the carpenting and seats in my truck. I'm very disapointed to see that a formal comparision still has not been provided by CR. I'll probably be seeking a partial refund on my membership as the serevice is not of use (not the first time I couldn't find subjective data on what I was looking o purchase. Good look to everyone else.
add me to the list. I need to buy a steam cleaner and am surprised that CR has no review.
To the moderator: It is customary to respond to at least let people know someone is listening...
We have 3 cats and need some feedback on purchasing a carpet cleaner. I am concerned too about the safety of any cleaner for our 10 month old baby who spends all her time on the floor. If there are chemicals involved in any way, I need to be sure they do not impact small children.
Please evaluate for hard floors, as well.
I have been a subscriber for three years and CR has been quite useful before I purchase anything except in this instance. I couldn't quite believe that there are not any ratings for carpet steam cleaners. I am tired of shelling out hundreds of dollars every year to have my carpets cleaned only to have it be as dirty as it was before a month later because I have kids. There was one website that provided reviews that were not in depth. I would like to know if CR even is aware of the need for reviews of this product? How does one get their attention in this matter?

One of the reasons that I recently subscribed to ConsumerReports.org was because I knew that I would soon be researching carpet cleaners/steamers. I was surprised and disappointed to to find nothing.
I, too, was looking for a review on carpet cleaners. I just purchased a Bissell at Costco but wanted to verify it before opening it! I'll let ya'll know how it goes! And please, CR...do a carpet cleaner review!
I am also looking for a review on steam cleaners. I bought a shark last year and was not satisfied. I have now seen an ad for Haan steam cleaner. Does it really work? Did anyone have luck with the Shark? Maybe I just had a fluke. It would be great to get away from all of the chemicals.
ditto! Attention should be paid-in some fashion- to customer requests....editorial, posting in magazine if no review. Six months with no response....my subscription will lapse.
I need to buy a carpet shampooer and was depending on CR to give me a heads up on the best buy. I can't believe CR doesn't review these. :(
I, too, am looking for a new shampooer. We had a Bissell, top of the line consumers model at the time (about 8-9 years ago), and it has been nothing but trouble and has been "down" more than it has been working. Any chance of a review soon? Maybe Costco is the solution. At least you can return it for a full year.
I too, find myself frustrated and alone in the search to find the best carpet shampooer. I can tell you that I purchased a Bissell Prosteamer a few years back, probably the low grade one, but it did not work well for me.
I have 5 kids and a dog, I had heavy duty traffic and for that, it did not work at all. Not to mention, it did not suck up enough of the water when it was supposed to. Perhaps low traffic area would be fine, but I need heavy duty and that was not it. Hope that helps some of you with your decision.
I have pets and live in a rural area. The amount of carpet cleaning I've had to have done is getting too expensive. I finally decided to purchase my own carpet cleaner so I can keep up easier and much to my surprise, can't find and consumer reports about them. I am thinking about the Bissell 2X......does anyone have any comments/suggestions? PLEASE CR, it seems by this list that there are a lot of us out there that are looking for your help!!!
Well, add my to the list of people who signed on to get reviews on carpet cleaners. I am thinking about the Bissell 2X. Anyone with comments/suggestions? We have 2 dogs and live in a wooded area. It's getting very expensive to keep having my carpets cleaned.
I'll just add my name to the list. Really need a review on carpet steam cleaners, now!
Add our name to those looking for a review on carpet steam cleaners. That is one of the reasons I signed up for the online Consumer Reports. Thank you for considering this request.
I also would like to see a review of steam cleaners for carpet and tile (especially grout). I was looking at the McCullough heavy duty steam cleaner, but hoped that CR would have a review. We really need this especially considering the emphasis on "green cleaning" since these steam cleaners purport to clean without chemicals. I have a dog with seizures and I have asthma, so I'm really hoping this will work for bathroom and kitchen tile floors.
I too would like to see a review of carpet cleaners/steam cleaners. Seems like a basic item that should be reviewed periodically.
Thanks.
Thanks to those who provided their personal experience. It's all we have to go on in deciding what to buy! CR! Hear our call for a review on carpet steam cleaners. Or at least tell us why there isn't one...
Every time that I want to look at a review for something that is not extremely common, I find that CR has either not reviewed it or it was over 10 years ago and not on the website.
That is why I didn't renew my account.
On carpet shampooers....and, Consumer Reports your response is....?
Add my name to the list of those wanting a objective overview of carpet cleaners on the market. I, too, am interesting in hearing how the steam cleaners fare when put up against those that use a detergent. Please CR, listen to those who support you financially and investigate this for us.
I need information on carpet cleaners as well. I can't believe after all the years of them being on the market that CR hasn't rated them. It is an item that should be!
I would like my name added to the list to receive information on them. People who need this information are some of the ones that keep you in business. Please research this category! If you can't have run-of-the-mill items like this, there is no reason for me to renew.
Please add us to the list. We are in need of a reliable and competent carpet cleaner. Is there any plan soon to give us a report? It seems this is a very common need.
Is there some particular reason that CR has NOT reviewed carpet cleaners? Especially with all the requests I see listed above?
I have purchased two and returned them both- I went by customer reviews and they were mixed. Some had good luck with the equipment and some not. Both of the ones I bought broke during the first use.
Get with it CR- or should we all look to another source for test results?
My wife and I have are subcribers to the magazine. We joined online to find out about carpet shampooers, but nothing. Please do a review.
With all these comments on steam cleaners/shampooers - why hasn't CR responded? Not worth it, too few products to review, all the products suck, we're in the process, something. As a subscriber, I think we're entitled to know -
What is it CR - why no reviews on carpet cleaners?
I am also anxious to know about steam cleaners for the hard floors. Please add me to the list.
Yes, I too would like to see a report on carpet cleaners / shampooers / steamers.... I haven't had much luck with the ones you rent at the grocery or hardware stores. But, I would like to spot clean now ang again between commercial cleanings. Please, CR, when will you report??
To the Moderator: Please let us know when a review of carpet cleaners/steam cleaners will be posted. I find it hard to believe that with the many posts listed, there is NO RESPONSE! Thank you.
A 2009 report on carpet cleaners would be appreciated.
For now, check out National Geographic's Green Guide on "Are there any green carpet cleaner?" report. It states that if you are looking to rent a cleaner..."Consumer Reports rated Rug Doctor as the best option..."
Bummer. No carpet cleaner review.
I too certainly would like to see a review of carpet cleaners. I'm amazed that an organization such as Consumer Reports would allow so many requests to go ignored. Hopefully my request could / will make the difference - the proverbially straw that broke the camel's back. Once again, I would request that CR provide a review of home use carpet cleaners.
Yes I too am sadly disappointed that this product, something most households have a need for these days, has not been reviewed by CR, particularly with the outcry posted by others here.
I am slowly growing more and more diappointed with my subcription.
I believe your customer base has spoken! It is time for CR to schedule a review of carpet cleaners. Please communicate when this will happen. . . Providing no response is unacceptable.
WHAT THE? WE ARE BEING DUPED BY CONSUMER REPORTS!!!!!!
I agree. I am a long-time subscriber and have used CR as a reference for any number of things. It's hard to believe that there is no review on carpet cleaners and incredibly hard to believe that there has been no CR reponse to such a great number of subscribers (above)! A minimal response is all that is necessary, I would think, just to make customers feel that they are being listened to if not directly addressed! Thank you.
I have been using a Bissell for many years and it has worked fine. I am now noticing Rug Doctors in the retail stores for purchase and wonder how they compare. Please advise.
I PAID CONSUMER REPORTS JUST TO FIND OUT ABOUT THE CARPET STEAM CLEANERS!!! AND...NO REPORTS TO BE FOUND! Amazon.com has customers reviews for FREE on various carpet cleaning machines, but was wanted a profession rating and review. CONSUMER REPORTS, YOU NEED TO RESPOND TO ALL OF YOUR PAID CUSTOMERS ON THIS REQUEST!!!!!!!!!!!
I also am in need of reviews of carpet cleaners/steamers. This is one of the main reasons I subscribed to CR. After looking at all of the previous comments since May 2008 with no response from CR, I am disheartened. At least respond to your subscribers!!
Carpet steamers/cleaners are not cheap. I would really like to see C.R. do a review of these appliances. I read the customer reviews on a retailers web site and cringe. Most models are not worth even half what they sell for. Consumers need a reliable way to choose a decent product. I almost bought one today but changed my mind after I read about the problems that other people had. I checked back-issues for several years and could not find a single review from CR.
I can't believe the number of requests for CR to review carpet cleaners. With the poor economic conditions we all now face, alot more people will be looking to clean their own carpets as a cheaper alternative to professional cleaning services. Please - we need a review ASAP
I'm very disappointed that I could not find a review for a steam mop for hardwood floors. That was the primary reason for joining. If consumers report doesn't keep up on the new things becoming available, what's the sense in belonging?
Hi CR. We're looking for a carpet shampooer too. My continued paid subscription is getting some ratings before we purchase one. How about it?
Add me to the list of people who want to see reviews of carpet cleaners.
Please add to list of those wanting to see CR reviews on carpet shampoo/steam/deep cleaners. Amazing that this appliance has not been tested and reviewed yet. Anybody listening?
oh boy, no reveiw on carpet cleaners, that was the main reason i bought the online consumer report. first day, first time and lost money.
yep - me too.
We rely on Consumer Reports before we buy almost all big ticket items. I too am surprised there is no rating on carpet steamers. I actually almost bought one last week but put it back since I hadn't checked CR first.
I think your customers are screaming from the rooftops! We want you to test carpet cleaners/steamers and give us some feedback. Or are they all so bad that there is nothing good to report?
I have the the Hoover Steam Vac Dual steam cleaner and it cleans fantastic! I could not decide and although I have area rugs and furniture it was well worth the money! I can do floors too but it only had a squeegee and just wasn't sure so I also bought the deluxe floor mate model. I couldn't be more thrilled! My mom has borrowed and said it cleaned as well as having it professionally I have done. I was disappointed that I had no where to find reviews just on Walmart, Hsn, & Qvc. I bought the Floormate off of Walmart because neither of the home shopping channels had that model downside is no warranty. I did purchase the Steam Vac off of Hsn which you make flex payments and can buy a warranty. The flex payments are really nice in and doesn't seem as bad than forking a good chunk of change in one payment. I'm eyeing that Dyson now. I see CR has reviews on vacuums at least.
I was going to try emailing CR to see if I could get an answer to Steam Cleaner question. I got tired of jumping through hoops trying to figure out _how_ to do that. CR seems to prefer that you get your answer from the FAQs - even when that answer is not there...
I did, however, find this: CR reviewed Carpet Cleaners/deep-cleaning in Jul 97 - awfully long time ago, but $7.95 for a back issue. No info on when they might be reviewing these again.
Oh no, no reveiw on carpet cleaners, that was the reason I bought the online consumer report. First day, first time and lost money. Where the information for carpet shampooers. Please Help Me!!!
Please complete the carpet steamers review. Thanks.
Can't believe there are STILL no reviews from Consumer Reports on carpet cleaners. Why? I keep checking every couple of months to see if anything has changed...but no.
To those looking for reviews, I have tried Amazon and read some reviews there. However it would be nice to read a professional reveiw that tested a variety of cleaners and rated them.
Hopefully CR will review some soon or I doubt I will renew my subscription. Has anyone compared or owned the Brissol 2X pro pet cleaner to the Hoover heated dual tank cleaner? I really would like to buy a cleaner for Christmas.
I subscribed on-line almost a year ago, precisely to get a rating for a carpet cleaner and still nothing from CR. Also, still no cleaner so I'm going out today and take my chances. Good Luck you other "in the dark shoppers"!!
Since I can't find any reviews on CR, I went to Amazon and read some reviews on carpet cleaners there. I keep checking back with CR to see if there been any updates, but no luck.
Because I really needed a carpet steam cleaner NOW, I finally went to Sears and asked the sale clerk which she thought would work better for me, the Bissel Pro Pet steam cleaner or the Hoover dual tank steam cleaner. She recommended the Hoover because of the dual tank, but said the Bissel Pet solution, which work can work with the Hoover, was better than Hoover's solution. We'll see if I made a good choice or not.
I can't believe CR has no rating on carpet steam cleaners! CR get on this please!
Gosh, I too subscribed to get information on a carpet cleaner, my only interest besides earbuds for the mp-3 player, which, btw got a poor review too. What I came up with, in both cases, was a list of complaints about the lack of a review. Maybe you could put a "if your here for" type warning before a person subscribes then list things that CR has received many complaints for not covering or for inefficiently covering so a person doesn't subscribe. Seems fair.
Just adding my thoughts on the GLARING absence of carpet cleaning equipment reviews and ratings by the otherwise very thorough CR. How about it? Thanks.
I see that CR is planning a review of carpet shampooers in 2009 but I think they should refrain from advertising all over the Internet that they provide this information now. I saw an ad under the heading Carpet Cleaners stating "Find out which carpet cleaners are the best" and then a link to ConsumerReports.org. This ad appeared on Consumer Search's web site, About.com and a Deals web site. I do not think people searching for a carpet cleaner should be enticed to join CR when they can provide no up-to-date information at this time.
Where are the steam cleaner/ carpet cleaner reports?
Here's another Canadian with a dirty carpet. How much longer must I wallow in my own craptitude? Please review carpet cleaners/shampooers.
I'm looking for ratings on carpet shampooers, and like the other commenters (if that's a word) I was shocked to be unable to find any information on them here. What gives?
Where are the ratings for carpet cleaners? This appliance has been out there for years and needs to be reviewed. Dry? Steam? Shampoo? Brush/brushless? Lots of questions and no answers...
seems site only wanted subscription money. no information on what I need info on. CAN'T believe there are no reports or testing on carpet shampooers. I want a refund..
I own the consumer version of the Rug Doctor whihc is availble on-line. I inherited my parent's 16 year old beagle (with IBD)in 2004. Loved the dog more than my carpets. With two more beagles of my own, my carpets were a mess and I was renting a Rug Doctor every couple weeks. I also have a Bissel, which was definitely not up to the task of cleaning some very unpleasant accidents. The Rug Doctor is expensive but well worth it. Cleans and extracts water very well and is comparable to professional cleaning. Have had since 2005.
I, like so many others, am looking to purchase a "steam" rug cleaner. I see several questions asking for a review on the machines but I don't see CR's response. Will you be testing the machines in the near future? Thanks.
I, too, was disappointed by not being able to find any information on carpet shampooers, and would like to add to the requests for a review of these appliances.
I, too, was disappointed when I could find no reveiws or information on carpet shampooers, and would like to add my name to the requestors for a a review of these appliances.
Another vote for carpet cleaner review!
I've been through 2 Bissell's; the first lasted 3yrs, the second lasted about a year, with maybe 6-10hrs of run time over that period. They're cheaper than hiring a company, but I expected a little more out of the new/improved stuff!
Looking to purchase a carpet cleaner/shampooer. Please do a test/review real soon.
I am so disappointed that, despite numerous pleas from subscribers, CR has not yet rated carpet shampooers. Obviously, those of us who have pets need this information. Please let all of us know when we might expect your help on this issue. Thanks!
I too subscribed to find the best rated carpet steam cleaner. I wasted money and time with consumer report with this. Time to look at other rating information
OK ... add me to your list of people who need a review on carpet shampooers! The dogs just tracked in mud all over my freshly professionally cleaned carpets! Agghhhh! I'm off to Walmart! C.R. ... I'm very disappointed that you don't have a review. The first thing I've needed in many years where I could not count on you! Please do it soon for those who have not yet faced this anguish!
I'd also like to see reviews on carpet cleaners.
Consumer Reports - Are you ever going to respond to any of these requests?
I'm very surprised, and quite a bit concerned that readers here have been asking for reviews of home carpet steam cleaners for nearly eight months. Either CR doesn't seem to be listening, or it doesn't care what subscribers want. Why ask for feedback from those who are paying for your service if you're interested in responding to what they ask for?
I'm preparing to go purchase one of these for my daughter for Christmas (she has a new puppy who's not quite caught on to the potty-training thing). I was hoping the money I'd invested in BOTH my print and online subscriptions would pay off, but it doesn't look like the information I counted on being here, is. What a disappointment. I'll remember this when it comes time to renew my subscriptions.
Yes, add one more person to the list who needs a review of steam cleaners for carpets! And by the way, - no soap! - soap leaves a residue that holds furture dirt.
Thank you! Your reviews are great!
I am also looking to purchase a carpet cleaner and I am sadly disappointed that a review has not been done.
Please let us know if one is in the plans!
I too would appreciate a review of either Carpet Cleaners/Steamers - or Carpet Cleaning Systems. Thank you!
Wow! I have spent about 90 minutes running around the site looking for this info. There is obvioulsy an extant need to have reviews on these products---I need a cleaner ASAP. I guess I can go with what some other members have said above about Bissell and Hoover. I would love to see this done though. I am honestly surprised there is not one already.
Yes, please please please review carpet shampooers.
I am anxiously awaiting!
I have a Bissell that I love but I need information on carpet spot removal. We bought a house that has a few spots I can't get rid of yet CR doesn't seem to have rated those either.
Also interested in a carpet shampooer review..
We also need a carpet cleaner and am disappointed these have not been reviewed yet by CR.
CR: let us know when you plan to review.
Comments/requests for carpet steamer/cleaner reviews on this page alone go back to May 08 and number 20 with mine.
Why hasn't CR even posted a response - i.e. what is the purpose of the blog if you don't monitor and respond?!
As all those before me, I am extremely dissatisfied that CR has
not tested and rated carpet shampooer/cleaning machines to date.
I will not be renewing my subscription!
What's the difference between a H2O Mop and a steam mop? Do steam mops work on carpets as well as hard floors? Has anyone had any experience with any of these?
We ALL WANT REVIEWS FOR CARPET SHAMPOOERS! Come on Consumer Reports, please give us recommendations! At the very least you could respond to all these posted comments.
CR did a review on these a couple of years ago, I'm pretty sure. I don't see it online, but I think if you go to the library for a hardcopy from the magazine, you might be in luck. Unfortunately if you do find something, it will likeley be outdated.
I subscribed to find hardwood floor steam cleaners. Now it's a waste?
Looks like there is plenty of interest in rating carpet cleaners since there are a couple of dozen comments about them since May 2008. I hope that CR has taken these requests to heart and there is a carpet cleaner review posted soon.
I also want some carpet shampoo/steamer reviews. If vacuum is your #1 online search, why don't you compare carpet shampoo/steamers?
Bart
Does Consumer Reports rate carpet cleaners/shampooers?
I subscribed for the ratings on carpet shampooers/cleaners. I am greatly disappointed that I find nothing on them!
I am also looking for some review of a carpet cleaner. Please help!
I am getting ready to buy a steam cleaner and it was down to the Hoover or Bissell, so I thought I'd check CR. I can't believe (like all those who've given their comments above) that of all things CR hasn't reviewed these yet. There's a website called Consumer Search which was much more helpful. I think I'll cancel my subscription to CR and get FREE help at Consumer Search.
Why is there no review on carpet cleaning machines? Come on Consumer Reports!!!!
I also wanted info on carpet cleaners and can't find any. They are not new, have been around for an awfully long time. Why have they not been tested before?
I just had to chime in - I signed on looking for information on carpet cleaners/shampooers/steamers as well and was shocked there was no review available for these appliances! I just borrowed my friends Oreck Rinse-A-Matic Steemer and it seemed to work well.
I also just subscribed for ratings on carpet shampoosers/steamers? Are there any ratings anywhere? I'm considering the Bissell ProHeat 2X Pet upright. Does anyone know anything about this model?
When will you have results of tests on carpet cleaners/shampooers?
I'm in need of purchasing one and love to have your guidance.
Suzanne
Please CR, research some carpet shampooers. Nothing is worse than purchasing an item that works once and quits. Thanks, RE.
I joined Consumer Reports about 3 years ago mainly to find out what would be the best carpet steam cleaner to buy and there was a report on them at that time. CR recommended the Bissell Pro Heat. That is the one I bought and I have not had a problem one with it. I use it at least once a week (small dog in the house) and have never been disappointed. I have also loaned it to a couple of friends who have both commented on how good it works and how well it extracts, hardly any drying time.
I, too, desperately need info on steam mops. I have a house that has mostly tile floors and need to know what a "best buy" would be!
CR, please consider to review carpet steam cleaner/ Carpet Cleaners/ Carpet Shampooer.
Just subscribed to online access to read about carpet cleaners / shampooers / steam cleaners. Found this thread. Very disappointed. Probably will buy today without the benefit of CR's testing.
Just subscribed to online access to read about carpet cleaners / shampooers / steam cleaners. Found this thread. Very disappointed. Probably will buy today without the benefit of CR's testing.
Yes CR, we do need info regarding carpet cleaners. For those looking I purchased a Bissell Clear View and it lasted over 5yrs till another family menber took it with them. It was a great cleaner. It left the carpet just damp which dried quickly. I am now looking and researching the Bissell ProHeat 9500. It is an upgrade from the Clear View. Hope this helps.
My son has just started eating 'solid' food and we too are in need of a carpet steam cleaner. Is CR looking into it? Anyone know?
I was also very surprised and disappointed not to find a review for carpet steam cleaners. CR, can you help us out, or do we need to find a better source of information?
It is expensive to have professional carpet cleaners and I'm going to be buying a carpet cleaner. I only hope that CR will provide ratings on these commonly purchased products very soon to continue to justify the subscription to CR. We've been asking and waiting many, many, many months for this information!
Sorry "Consumer Reports" your subscribers are waiting and waiting for "steam cleaner" testing as you promised and it seems like you pass the buck to consumers' reviews on other sites. What is going on here? I usually always check Consumer Reports for your ratings on important items. YOU ARE REALLY LETTING US DOWN----BIG TIME! With a bad economy, we want to buy and clean our own carpets with a quality steam cleaner and save the expense of professional cleaners. Can you understand our need here? Getting upset with what seems to be an unkept promise. March is almost over and no testing, let alone ratings. :(
I too am surprised Consumer Reports does not have ratings or reviews for carpet shampooers and, more importantly, very displeased that they have not even bothered to comment on the issue!
Every time I turn around CR is reviewing TV's, cell phones or cars. Please give us some info on carpet cleaners. I guess no one at the company has needed their carpet cleaned. User comments aren't helping much as some have said a particular machine is good and others say they bad. Don't leave us hanging!
I am going out to purchase one tomorrow, any suggestions on what not to get?
With all the Consumer Reports customers requesting reviews for carpet shampooers you think they would quit ignoring them and do something about it. I too would like to buy one and need some guidance on what is the best.
Please add me to the list. We are about to return the Rug Doctor Pro - just purchased, first use, leaks and does not clean very well - left the carpets wet - had to drag out the old Hoover to pick up the water. We were hoping to get some good info on the next carpet cleaner.
PLEASE can we get a review on carpet / steam cleaners?
I also was looking for a review on carpet cleaners.
Well, it's been at least a couple of years since I joined online specifically to find information on carpet cleaners. Before that, we've been subscribers to the paper edition for about 30 years. I can't believe how you've ignored all your customer requests and not reviewed these essential appliances. I never would have believed that Consumer Reports would be so unresponsive.
In your last review in 1997, you said to forget the home appliances and go for the rentals or cleaning services. My main goal for a home machine is to be able to do a small area at a time that is compatible with my time and energy.
I'm getting up there in age, and don't have the energy to spend all day with a rental machine in order to get the maximum benefit from the cost. I want to be able to do the entryway on one day, another problem area another day, a full room without significant problems another day, etc. I know that you have reported elsewhere that this review will be forthcoming. Please indicate exactly when.
Wow. After all this time and still no carpet shampooer reviews. I am going out to buy one today and came to check out CR's report on them... only to find no report and 7 pages of requests for one dating back over a year.
Not sure why we should bother with subscribing sometimes. Seems kind of ridiculous that there is no carpet shampooer review, it's not like it's a niche item that only a handful of people use.
COSTCO HAS RUG DOCTOR ON SALE WITH $75 OFF coupon on Rug Doctor until Apr. 5, 2009 at the lowest price I've seen. I want to buy it at this great price but I know nothing about the home version vs the rental. I needed Consumer Reports' recommendations on this. Since there are no reviews, I am left with the uncertainty of the value of this product vs the Bissel I already own. I currently have to scrub the areas by hand where my dog has vomited and where the traffic center lines show the worse. My carpet is 4 yrs. old.
Please consider testing carpet cleaners soon. Before Christmas I read that a report would be out early next year...this is early next year.
I also need help in buying a carpet shampooer. Cannot beleive that after all the posting I have read CR is not helping. Please advise if you are planning to review or not.
PLEASE DO TESTING ON CARPET CLEANERS, I NEED ONE, I HAVE SUBSCRIBED TO C.R. FOR YEAR AND ALWAYS USED YOUR RECCOMENDATIONS.
What's up with carpet cleaners?? Why doesn't CR review them? It seems to me (as the comments show) that many people would like a review of them including me.
Well I'm going to have to join in on the need for a review on steam cleaners both carpet and floor. One of the main reasons I signed up today only to be dissapointed. Get with it CR, we need your help..
Please review the carpet cleaners. I have been a member since 2004 and depend on your tests to make a smart consumer decision.
I can't believe there's no review on carpet cleaners????
I agree, we need a report on carpet cleaning machines.
If you need a dirty carpet to test carpet shampooers on, I volunteer! I have 6 dogs, including 2 ancient ones, so my carpet often needs shampooing.
When you test them, include a section on how they deal with pet hair -- some of them clog up.
Spot cleaners as well as big ones, please!
My carpets are dying to get a new machine!
Another request for reviews of carpet cleaners. I would also like to know how the home units compare with the rentals.
ANOTHER VOTE FOR CARPET CLEANERS....THEY TELL ME THAT TYPING IN CAPS IS LIKE YELLING...GET IT?
I assume no one from CR ever looks at these comments.
I am disillusioned. I have bought the Best Buy in the last year for kitchen knives and toasters and was extremely disappointed in both products.
You can add me to the list of those who'd like to see reviews of carpet cleaning machines. I have 2 cats and a dog, and it's just not practical to have my carpets professional shampooed all the time. It would be helpful to get some ratings from CR.
I'm astounded by the lack of response from CR to this blog - there's tons of people requesting this information. Come on Consumer Reports - Please give us a helping hand here.
The only reason I subcribed to this was to find the best carpet cleaner. I'm irritated that they don't have a rating of them.
Add me to the list - I just went looking for a review on a cleaner and was surprised that there wasn't one. When I did a search I got this comment thread.
I agree, it is quite surprising that they haven't done one. I need to make a decision soon as well. I guess I'll just have to pay big bucks for someone to come out this time and hope there's a review before my next cleaning. I'd also like to see a comparison of home units vs. "big box" rental units vs. having it done by a professional (e.g. Chem-Dry).
Thanks,
Richard
Looks like you need to review CARPET CLEANERS
I am also looking for a review on carpet shampooers. I currently have a Bissell Big Green Clean machine that is 16 years old and want to by a new one. I am looking at purchasing an upright however. I am looking at getting a Royal Procision Extractor, Model RY7910, but want to know how it works before I buy. The guy where I bought my vacuum had high expectations for this thing. The Bissell only had to have the pump replaced once. Just don't want to bend over anymore to clean. Please do a review soon. thankyou! The
Please, Please, Please review carpet cleaners. I would like to know which steam cleaners are best and if the spray on vaccuum off cleaners work just as well.
Thanks
CR
You would think With almost every house in the USA having carpet and all these people looking for carpet cleaners why has a rating not ever been done. I myself only signed up for the on line CR to find a carpet cleaner as i could not find it in the magizines. with much dissapointment i have wasted my time and money as i already get the magizines and have for years. my husbend never buys anything without your test results. you rate vaccums and cars in every other months magizine.please lisen to your readers as we make it posable for CR to do the reports and we are your consumers. thank you
I, too, would like to address the need for Consumer Reports to review carpet shampooers/cleaners. This is so important that I am making my first request in over 30 years as a subscriber.
CR. Please rate carpet cleaners. Thanks
Add me to the list of someone looking for information on a carpet shampooer. I bet they come out with a report the day after I buy the one that CR rates the lowest. Ha.
Yes, please review Carpet Cleaners!! I came here looking for reviews and was disappointed.
Thanks
Lou
Has anyone received an answer about the carpet cleaner review?
I am in the market right now and would like some ratings on performance.
Lisa
I am rather upset that CR still has not posted reviews on carpet shampooers. the more I look around at the internet version of CR I wonder why I signed up!
Still no carpet cleaner reviews? If not soon, I guess I'll cancel my subscription....oh well
We are going to purchase a carpet shampoo/steam cleaner and can't believe that CR has not responded to years of requests, from their customers, to review carpet cleaners.
Wow, what does it take for you to conduct tests and do a review? Can't you see that there are LOTS and LOTS of people who would benefit from this review?
I can't believe CR does not have any tests on carpet cleaners/steam cleaners, shampooers etc. I need 1 and don't have much info on them. Thats why i have this subscription and it's not helping me now. Please test them soon.
Well, it looks like it's been almost a year so far on this topic and no review of carpet cleaners. I just renewed my subscription and am sorry. Will think twice at renewal time next year if CR remains so unresponsive. Also, the "new" format makes it impossible to e-mail CR directly.
I have a Hoover steam cleaner that is 8 years old and has worked well. It is worn out and would like to know what to replace it with.
I also cannot believe there is no CR research on carpet steam cleaners. I need to purchase one and have no info to go on.
Come on, Consumer Reports. How many people have to ask for a review of carpet shampooers before you give us one? Let's see it soon.
I am so disappointed to discover no rating on steam carpet cleaners. I rented Rug Doctor from Wal-mart and bought the recommended chemicals with okay results. The carpet was clean and fresh but not restored to its original condition. And then...I borrowed my neighbor's Hoover Steam Vac and her home cleaning remedy with FANTASTIC results!!!! She told me to use one cup of vinegar and one cup of amonia to clean up the dog vomit, poop and kool-aide spills. I also added 1/2 cup of Oxi-Clean to the concoction and got all the stains up. I mean every single stain even from years before. To be safe I did "rinse" the rug again after cleaning with fresh water only. Please, please test and report on carpet cleaners because life with kids and pets is messy.
When you review carpet cleaners for purchase, please include a comparison with a few carpet cleaners commonly available for rent (such as the RugDoctor). I'd like to be able to compare buying with renting, i.e. how much do I need to spend to get the same performance.
Still no reviews? What's the deal CR!!! Not even a decent reply as to why...
I'm growing more dissapointed by the minute; recently even your child seat reviews are sub-par (that was the primary reason I decided to sign up to both your mag and web)...
I have also been trying to find out what Consumer Reports might have to say about carpet shampooers to no avail. But, I do have some helpful information. I borrowed my son's Bissell 2X hot water carpet cleaner. We moved into this 10 year old house with Berber carpeting. It was stained very badly and the seller refused to have it cleaned. I had a professional carpet cleaning company come in twice (the first time it did not even look like it had been cleaned), and after a week or two all the stains reappeared.
After recently using the Bissell cleaner I must say, my carpet has never looked that clean. The brush action and the deep cleaning make a big difference. If it is very dirty, it is best to take a good amount of time and change the water often to make sure you are getting out all the dirt.
Anyway I hope this has been helpful information. I certainly plan to get a Bissell cleaner for myself. Hopefully CU will give us some of their input soon.
Just subscribed to read reviews on carpet shampooer...big dissapointment. After reading all the requests for a review it makes one wonder about their receiving no benefits from companies. Come on guys..what's the real motive here??
I am using a carpet shampooer that I've borrowed and it's doing a very poor job and therefore seriously contemplating purchasing one of my own that works! I came to your web site to find a rating before heading off to the store and low and behold, there isn't one!! PLEASE...would you do a rating on various carpet shampooers so that my carpet will look presentable again?? I'll look forward to it! Thanks a million!
Carpet cleaner review please!
BUMP-- for a review of carpet cleaners. I am tired of renting the rug doctor. The old bissel I have is really a hassle to use. Its the old hook up to sink unit. I have three girls, and two 80lb balls of mud (dogs) that need to learn to use a carpet cleaner.
Also would ike to see an another article on carpet and if any new features they may have. (silicone protectant vs scotchguard)
If CR is going to post a report, could they give us some heads up for when it is.
Any recent reviews on carpet shampooers? Our Hoover is giving out after years of service. Any new models on the horizon?
Nancy Rush
Please...need carpet cleaner, shampoo, spot remover reviews!!!
I also came here looking for a review on carpet cleaners and am disappointed to find you have not reviewed them. There seem to be alot of people with the same sentiments.
Hello? Carpet cleaner reviews please.
Hey, I want carpet cleaner reviews, too, as well as the different cleaning solutions you can buy for them. Also would be handy to compare to the typical rental machine and to a reputable national commercial service or two. Have been pretty happy with a Bissell Pro Heat 2X. It does general cleaning pretty well, but I've noticed that over a few weeks, certain spots tend to re-appear, if a bit fainter.
Thanks!
We want a carpet cleaner review!
We want a carpet cleaner review!
We want a carpet cleaner review!
Do you hear all of the chants Consumer Reports? Do you read the comments posted on your site? Could you answer us in a posting about whether a carpet cleaner review is in the works? Oops, I'll bet you don't want to answer if you don't have plans for a review. My husband and I always go straight to Consumer Reports before buying anything, it's how we decide what we want to buy. We depend on your reviews and would appreciate one on carpet cleaners. Thanks in advance for a review, or at least an answer about a review.
I too am looking for information on carpet cleaners. Isn't this why we buy Consumer Report?
I'm also in the market for a carpet cleaner/shampooer. Our home has a number of rugs and I find it expensive to send them out to be cleaned. I came to CR to find out what brands rated best and was suprised to find that a review of this kind has not been done! We ladies are waiting!
I just paid for a subscription to get a review of carpet cleaners, and apparently wasted my money. I'm surprised you don't have a review, especially given the length of time people seem to have been asking for one.
Have you responded to any of these comments posted? I too am looking for reviews on carpet cleaners. You should just take this site down because if you don't monitor and actually respond to people's request you do way more damage than if you didn't even have this in the first place.
Here we are in May 2009 and still no carpet steam cleaner reviews. I thought I read somewhere on the site that this shortcoming would be taken care of in the spring of 2009. Time is running out. I could use the info NOW.
Another example of a company not giving the customer what they want, and are payng for. They are probably in a meeting right now "brainstorming" ideas to make there company better. LISTEN TO THE CUSTUMER YOU MORONS.
Steve
Please provide reviews of the various types of professional carpet cleaning services: chem dry, steam, etc.
WHERE ARE THE CARPET CLEANER REVIEWS? Hello? Anyone?
Apparently Consumer Reports does not read or care about the comments that the subscribers enter on their website - I can't believe there is NOTHING on Steam Cleaners - it's Ridiculous!!!!
When CR starts reviewing shampooers, I would like to see Oreck amoung the tested.
I can't believe I just joined Consumer Reports specifically for a review on carpet shampooers, only to find there aren't any! I may be cancelling my subscription!
Same as comments above. My wife is asking me to buy her a carpet cleaner. I never buy without checking here first. Why are there NO reviews?
I too certainly would like to see a review of carpet cleaners. I'm also amazed that an organization such as Consumer Reports would allow so many requests to go ignored.
Would love to have a review of carpet shampooers--have been checking "forever" but find nothing. How soon might it happen?
Arthur
I'll add to your other subscribers! Looking for a steam or shampoo carpet cleaner is a hard choice. There are a lot to choose from and I also am shocked there are no CR reviews. I was at the store reading all of the boxes that steam cleaners were in and didn't want to spend money on something that wouldn't fit my needs (pet odors, stains especially). I'd get the more expensive one if I knew it would work. So I thought I'd come home and look them up on CR before buying. Well you can see people want you to review them! Thanks, Alicia, for the tip to go to free consumer search! I'll check that out because I know I'm going to take a chance and buy one before they'll be reviewed here!
Has CR still not reviewed carpet cleaners and shampooers? You know, I am seriously questioning the value of a CR subscription. Yes, if you want to know about cars, maybe. But, CR is seriously behind on rating this type of cleaner. Get with it, or I'm outta here!
I'm also looking for some information on carpet steam cleaners, when do you think you will have some information??? Hedy
CR -- How many inquiries does it take before you respond? Please Please review shampoo and/or steam machines, including rental brands like Rug Doctor -- soon.
CR - Please do a carpet cleaner review. Both product cleaning and steam cleaning (carpet vs tile vs hardwood) would be essential.
I agree with the numerous posts concerning the lack of reviews of carpet cleaners. I, too, subscribed to the online version of CR in order to review carpet cleaners. It is rude to your customers to be as unresponsive as you are. My subscription expires in November. So that's your deadline for me. Either a review of carpet cleaners by November 30, 2009 or I'm out of here.
I need to get information for our church on carpet cleaners, so went to my annual CR issue to see what they had to say. I was quite surprised to see nothing listed on them. Then began reading the requests from readers from quite awhile back, and still wonder why you haven't reviewed them by now. PLEASE, REVIEW CARPET SHAMPOO/STEAM CLEANERS!!!!!!
The most recent review of carpet cleaners I could find was Jul2003, Vol. 68 Issue 7, p8, 2/3p, 1 chart, 4 color.
The hoover was among the top rated for that year.
I think CR should revisit these for review - I too am interested in how some of them stack up.
Would you ALL please stop your whinning!!! CR is way TOO Busy testing and counting your money to be bothered with reading any of the postings that the suckers, Ooopps, customers put in here!
I'm putting in my request for carpet cleaner reviews as well. Mine just broke down, and as we all know, it's usually cheaper to replace then repair.
I see I'm one of many. I subscribed to find carpet cleaner reviews, and carpet cleaning machine reviews and you don't have either. I would bet 95% of the homes in the US have some sort of carpet or rug, and they all have to get cleaned periodicly. I'll bet more people have carpeting in their homes than have cars. Please do a review of both cleanning liquids and rug cleaners.
Yes, I need to CR analysis of carpet cleaners. Don't know if any of them are worth the price. But have had 2 carpet cleaning compainies damage my carpeting the last 2 times I've used one! The companies are as bad as dry cleaners damaging clothes now!
I too wanted to see what the latest reviews from CR showed on steam cleaners. I purchased a Bissel Pro Heat around 10 years ago, worked wonderfully all these years until now, I used the review of them then to know which to get. It lasted 10 long strong solid years. So the review then was worth it. I'm now in the market for a new one, and will probably buy the same thing, hoping it lasts as long as the previous one did. Not having a review from here does hurt my confidence though, seeing the scores of people that have had the same one and some only lasted a few years or months. I know it has an electrode problem when it gets older and will shut off the heater/pump after it "warms" up a bit too much, and now it is only after 1/2 room. Only started doing this about a month or two ago. I dare say I definitely got more than my moneys worth out of it. Just hope that the one I pick out today without a CR review lives up to its heritage.
CR, have you got the hint yet? Readers want carpet cleaner reviews. I've been looking for these reviews for quite some time and to date, nothing has been found except for some old reviews from years past. For the present time, the consumer must make an uninformed choice on what to buy.
Please listen to YOUR 'consumers' about needing ratings for steam carpet cleaners. I don't know why CR is refusing to even acknowledge these request. Poor consumer service.... I just sayin'!
Hello CR
I own a Bissell Proheat Turbo and it works GREAT. THe only gripe i have is it is made out of a hard plastic that is very fragile. If mishandled, it will break easily.
Ditto...would have appreaciated a review on carpet cleaners.
Add me to those disappointed not to find something on upright home carpet steamers/shampooers. This is strike one on my continuing my purchase of this service.
I also had my steam cleaner break and was looking for a CR recommendation. It appears from the string of requests that the demand has been there for over a year.
Count me in on a review of carpet cleaners. I had a n old Bissel green Machine for years, gone to the big cleaner in the sky.
10 pages of this blog and not one comment from Consumer Reports. It seems like they would get the message. I have both subscriptions and use the online for fast research. I join a lot of users here and would really like to see a review of carpet shampooers/cleaners.
I thought I read last year that you had heeded our request and planned to have an analysis ready this Spring. What happened????
CR...
Please.... a review of carpet and stain removers would help a LOT of your consumers!
Hubris. How hard would it be to say "no" or "we will do it when..." A medium to big ticket item, heavily advertised, several very well known brands. Carpet shampooers/rug cleaners should be on the agenda at CR. The failure of CR to respond in any way to month after month of the same request from so many subscribers shakes my faith in the decision making process at CR. Silence in the face of so many requests is hubris.
We, too, are planning to buy a new steam carpet cleaner to replace our old one, and are looking for ratings. Last year you said you planned on testing them in 2009. Have you done so, and if so, do you have a date for publication yet? We never buy appliances without first checking your ratings, but can't wait TOO long for a new ratings guide for them to come out. We aren't desperate, and wouldn't mind waiting a couple of months to see what your ratings are, but can't wait indefinitely.
why not do a survey on consumer satisfaction with consumers reports? Obviously the answer is that we are very dissatisfied with you. Promises made and not kept. money accepted in payment of subscription fees and products not produced as advertised. Arrogance seems to be the onlything being served up
All comments are reviewed by our moderators, and will not appear on this blog unless they have been approved. Good thing big brother, YOU, is watching.
I'm super disappointed that CR doesn't have reviews for carpet steamers... so are a lot of other people i see. What's worse is that people have been asking for you to review for more than half a year and there doesn't seem to be even a response.
I'm a subscriber to the magazine and I need to buy a carpet steam cleaner. I've been waiting for the promised review in 2009 but the year is already half over. Where is the review already? It seems like every other issue reviews TVs, Kitchen Appliances, etc.
I too joined to get advice on professional carpet cleaning services, as well as so many other things I've thought of and thought "I should join Consumer Reports, they'll know" I am dissapointed at having found no information on this and also discouraged by all the letters preceeding mine. I hope I don't have this problem with all my future inquiries.
I see I am not the only one looking for reviews on carpet shampooers. When are you going to comply with these requests?
I appreciate CR mag. but can not understand your blattant unconcern for the feed back comments on carpet cleaners/shampooers. I'am very interested in purchasing one, but can't find a rating. How disappointed I'm in CR. Should I continue to subscribe for this type of treatment? Please respond to our feedback.
I have just subscribed so I can look at your reviews of carpet shampooers. I'm disappointed to find out you don't rate them. Are you going to be rating them soon or do I have to go elsewhere for a review?
Just completed a survey of your site - should have finished my search. I. too am looking for reviews on carpet shampooers and have found nothing. I would definitely change my scoring in several areas. Being directed to "Bridal registries do-it-yourselfers" did not help!
I am really disappointed at Consumer Reports for not having any review of carpet cleaners. And to make matters worse, your web site has no subject heading for it. Your paper version has an index of products reviewed with the dates reviewed available at libraries. Why is that so hard to duplicate on-line? Do you have anyone responsive to customer service? Searching your web site is difficult, and not designed for quick user access to information. It seems to me that Consumer Reports is a place where people tinker around with products that interest THEM and the customer is asked to pay for their hobby.
Dear Consumer Reports,
I have been a subscriber for decades and cannot, I repeat, cannot believe that you have not responded to the many previous requests for a review of carpet cleaning machines!
It seems that the same products are reviewed all the time. Do you save money by just recycling previous product reviews using established tests with newer model numbers? Why can you not review an appliance that is sorely needed during this economic down turn?
Mark me down as yet another person that cannot believe CR has not investigated CARPET SHAMPOOERS. I have been holding off buying one, waiting for a report, but I live in an apartment with an Austrailian Shepherd and am getting anxious. Constantly renting a Rug Doctor is too expensive. CR -- you have let me down.
http://www.consumersearch.com/carpet-cleaners/best-carpet-cleaners
Hover SteamVac with clean surge seems to be rated very high by owners
I'm joining the group of other readers who are extremely disappointed that there are no reviews or recommendations for carpet steam cleaners. This is an expensive item to purchase and I really didn't want to make a poor choice. I am going to purchase the Bissell ProHeat 2X based on other reviews and comments I've been able to find. I subscribed specifically to find a review on this product, very frustrated to find there was no information.
I agree 100%. We need a carpet cleaner. Can't figure why CR does not review this highly used by American consumers product. Glad others have put their experiences on line.
It's August 15th, and still no reviews. We want to know whether we shoud: A - hire a cleaning outfit (which one?), B-rent a shampooer (which one?), or C- buy a shampooer (which one?). Sigh. All of our (everyone who has posted) carpets are getting grimier by the day. We're waiting.
Wow, still no reviews for specific carpet steam cleaners. It seems like such a basic thing to provide. "Customer service" .... is dead.
