New Feature: Refrigerator video buying guide
July 23, 2008 10:25 AM

If you're in the market for a new refrigerator and are on a tight budget, you're in luck. Relatively basic $500 refrigerators now come equipped with rimmed glass shelves that catch spills and gallon-size-storage on doors. And more manufacturers are adding an icemaker to their models.

Before you head out to shop, watch our new video buying guide (right) and read our latest refrigerators report, learn about the real capacity of these appliances, and refer to our ratings of bottom-freezers, built-ins, side-by-sides, and top-freezers (available to subscribers).

a kitchen-aid refrigerator was your second highest scoring refrigerator in the bottom freezer category in april. now, it's nowhere to be seen in your rankings. what's up with that?

Why are KitchenAid refrigerators not included in your evaluations or ratings? Is there archived information about KitchenAid refrigerators that you can provide if current information is not available?

I would like answers to these questions as well. Thanks- Linda

I too am interested in why Kitchen Aid refrigerators [and other Kitchen Aid appliances]are not included in your evaluations or ratings. I just subscribed to Consumer reports just to find out how Kitchen Aid is rated and there is little information on the subject.

I am looking at all kitchen appliances but especially interested in counter depth refrigerator and also a gas stove or duel fuel stove.

Yes, I would like to have info on Kitchen Aid as well. That is why I've subscribed to Consumer Report.
I have a Kitchen Aid Refrigerator Architect II Series, Model KSCS23FVBL01 It has the black shiny finish. I am now awaiting my 6th unit. The refrigerator has severe quality issues. Every unit I have received has come directly from Kithen Aids factory and is severly scratched.
The scratches are underneath the protective film. Seems that Kitchen Aid is sending out defective merchandise to their distributors.
They also use a tape that is leaching thru the protective film and putting marks on the doors that will not come off.
There is also spots on the bottom grate that holds the filter. They are white marks in the plastic that do not wash off. All in all this unit is very POOR Qualtiy and so is the workmanship.

Ditto "a kitchen-aid refrigerator was your second highest scoring refrigerator in the bottom freezer category in april. now, it's nowhere to be seen in your rankings. what's up with that?

I bought one on your recommendation and it is quirky to say the least. It makes loud cracking noises for no apparent reason. The ice bin is designed in such a way that when it is full every time you open the freezer drawer ice spills out the back and down on the floor. It is generally noisy both when sucking in water and when spitting out iced. The button for cold water is in an awkward position unless you are left handed and is hard to push. The fixed shelves in the door are a nuisance.

Is there any Kitchen Aid left on this site? Is my subscription cost going down. Kitchen Aid has the one of the best warranties available - why remove the information?

Hey!
Are you ever going to post answers to these questions about Kitchenaid refrigerators? I am considering buying one and need an unbiased expert's opinion. Please respond! Thanks

Would you please let me know how a Kitchen Aid refrigerator w/ the freezer on the bottom rates? I am looking at KFIS20XVMS.

Thank you. 10/23/08

Like the earlier comments on Kitchen Aid fridges I have a Frigidaire side by side which is only under-represented by one evaluation which obviously doesn't represent the brand very well. My model is a 23 cuft glhs36efsb and came with a 12 month warranty. At 14-15 months the top vegetable drawer rails broke followed by the bottom rails two months later. The vegetable drawer fractured due to lack of support from the broken rails. I am very unhappy with the quality of the plastics used by Frigidaire and am waiting to see what will break next. I wrote the company about the lack of quality and was told it was out of warranty and therefore there was nothing they could do for me. Some other consumer comments are there are cold spots on the top shelf which can cause freeze spots on certain foods and the ice maker has several problems. Ice will collect on a ledge at the back and spill into the freezer compartment and the dispenser frequently jams with a cube and begins dispensing crushed ice until the blockage releases.

I own two kitchen aid refrigerators. I am now looking to buy my son a fridge for Christmas and was very surprised to not find them on your website. Are they going out of business? What is the reason for not having them on your site? Thank You, Darlene

Looking to buy a new refridgeator. Looking at Kitchenaid architect Series II Freezor on bottem with 1 door on top l/hand sping, with inside water dispensor & Automatic ice maker. anyone have one? & what do you think about this model?

I too came to this site looking for kitchen aid reviews. . . Anyone above get any answers yet?

I also would like to see Kitchenaid refrigerator reviews / information.

And as a 20+ year subscriber to Consumer Reports, I must add that I am disappointed to see people have been asking FOR THE PAST SIX MONTHS "why are there no longer any Kitchenaid reviews" available -- and CR has not yet responded to the question. This web page says "all comments are reviewed by our moderators" ... so let's have a reply, please.

I, too, want info about KitchenAid. As a designer, I subscribe to Consumers Report so that i can recommend reliable products to my clients. KitchenAid has been included in reports for years. Now it has vanished with no explanation from CR, and no response to the numerous inquiries. When will there be an answer to all these questions?

I subscribed to your site so that I could research new refrigerators. The model I am most interested in is a KitchenAid. I cannot believe that you do not review ANY Kitchen Aid models. This makes your ratings practically worthless to me. Not very impressive!

I have been researching refrigerators for nearly a month. It is extremely confusing, over-whelming, and time consuming. I was considering a KitchenAid, but now am wondering like the rest of the posters, are they getting out of the refrigerator market? A reputable company should be honest with its customers, please answer the numerous requests that have been posted on your site regarding the KitchenAid refrigerators.

I am considering KitchenAid Refrigerator and Bosch. Are you ever going to answer these posts or review these refrigerators? Also, have you ever considered, rating appliances packages. I am remodeling and basically need to replace all of my appliances. Often the packages are a better deal because of rebates, etc. It would be nice to see which Appliance Packages you would recommend.

I subscribed to Consumer Reports 4/09 to get a Kitchen Aid Architect Series II confirmation in the appliance areas and I find nothing and no replys to all of the above questions about Kitchen Aid Appliances. We are building a new home and we are in desperation of some consumer report information for kitchen placement and measurements with island on the Architect Series II appliances. Where are you people when answers are needed? The above people who are in need of help need consumer information. What's up? Are you understaffed or just ignoring the Kitchen Aid responses and are too overwhelming to handle the job? Honest questions need HONEST ANSWERS!!!

Ditto the above on the KitchenAid refrigerator comments - and the lack of information on the CR site. I also subscribed April 09 to help with my appliance selection. Researching appliances is a dizzying undertaking - and one can never be sure that the user comments are talking about the right model, if there had been improvements and design changes... that's why we subscribe to CR.

I am also seriously considering Kitchen Aid as a refrigerator option. Why are there no responses to requests? Why do I subscribe to Consumer Reports on line? Is anyone listening...hello?!!!

I also am looking for information on a Kitchen Aid KFIS20XVMS bottom freezer refrigerator. What's the deal?

This is outrageous! There is something fishy going on here and I thought Consumer Reports prided itself on being objective!! If CR does not weigh in on this for this length of time, then we can only be led to believe that there is something suspicious about this brand or model that they are reluctant to state. Isn't this supposed to be a Consumer awareness/protection mechanism! Shame on CR for not responding to any of this!

If all of these comments are reviewed & approved, why are these not being responded to? It seems that I'm not alone in my frustration over Kitchen Aid not being reviewed for the consumers. Why are we paying for good reports if we can't even get our questions answered on the website? Makes me wonder why I'm paying for both the magazine and the website!

I suggest someone from Consumer Reports respond immediately or I will have to find another source for COMPLETE information.

I'm seeing a disturbing trend from reading all the online requests for information about KitchenAid appliances. I'm really glad I got a month to month subscription as it appears your customer service department is not responding to questions. I have questions about a used KitchenAid refrigerator, model KBRA20ELSS01 - and I can't find anything on your web-site. PLEASE respond to my request for information.

Me too! I just subscribed to get info on bottom freezer refrig, Kitchen Aid, 18.5 cubic feet. What's up with this, is right? Where's the info. If I can't find anything on this, I may unsubscribe, pronto.

I too am very disturbed that I cannot locate any information on KitchenAid appliances on your site. My husband and I are building a house, and we are considering using all KitchenAid appliances in our kitchen. We came to your site looking for an unbiased review, and found nothing!

The absence of any information about the KitchenAid brand seems suspicious to me. Is the company not willing to pay you enough money to review their products?!?!?!?!

i commend consumer reports for not even showing the inferior kitchenaid products. unfortunately i bought a side by side and the constant thump thump thump of the compressor is rediculous. i called and had a repairman look at the unit and was told that kitchenaid are notorious for their noisy compressors and nothing could be done. i will never buy a kitchenaid product again.
