Surely you've seen a full-page ad in a major newspaper for EdenPure space heaters, heard veteran radio commentator Paul Harvey tout them on his national radio program, or read the comments—both glowing and negative—from owners of these appliances on Web forums.
(February 10, 2010, update: Read our review of the EdenPure Gen 3 Model 1000 space heater.)
The newspaper and radio ads, including one in the October 29, 2008, edition of The Wall Street Journal, promote the EdenPure Model GEN3 500 and the Model GEN3 1000 (shown) as a "new advanced portable heater that can cut your heating bill by up to 50%," promising that you'll "never be cold again." One hype-filled newspaper ad also features a Q&A with Julius Toth, director of product development for BioTech Research, in which Toth espouses the many benefits of these heaters. (BioTech Research, whose slogan is "Better health through technology," offers a slew of other promised-filled products, including the AbGone Pill, Instant Facelift, and the Smellkiller Air Cleanser.)
We have not tested the GEN3 500 or 1000 models, which, according to a customer-service representative at BioTech Research, has seen "major improvements" from the brand's Quartz Infrared 1000, $400, which we tested for our 2007 report on space heaters. Let's just say that our experts were not transported to paradise by the EdenPure we did review.
The unit was the second-lowest-scoring space heater we tested, earning only a 24 out on our 100-point scale. According to the folks in our Tech department who tested space heaters, the EdenPure provided lackluster temperature control and was not particularly easy to use, What's more, it was pricey and lacked an overheat-protection feature (key for safety). The GEN3 models do have this important safety feature, according to BioTech Research.
If you're in the market for a new space heater, be dubious about any heater whose manufacturer claims the appliance will slash your heating bills. Here's why:
For every degree that you lower your home thermostat in the winter, you'll save about 3 percent on heating costs. So the only way to really save with a space heater would be to use the unit in the room you're in and turn down the thermostat elsewhere in the house so that your main heating system would not operate. To save 50 percent on your heating bill, you'd have to lower the home thermostat about 17°F. Also, based on national average fuel prices, using an electric space costs more than twice as much to operate as a natural-gas-fueled central-heating system.
Before you shop for a space heater, read our report, which includes buying advice and ratings of electric convection, electric fan-forced, and electric radiant models. We also tested propane and kerosene models but found a safety risk with that type.
Essential information: Read our recent tip of the day to learn how to save money on heating this winter and, perhaps, boost the value of your home.
I would like to know which infrared heating system is best?
There is the Comfort Zone, Eden Pure, and iHeater so far.
Do you think any of these could heat a 20 ft by 30 ft 2 bedroom ranch style home with little or no help from a furnance?
I will await your response. Thank you so much!
Last year I purchased an EdenPure xl-500 heater. It worked well for about 3 weeks and then died. It was replaced with an xl 1000 at no charge to me as the xl 500 was not available for replacement. I normally us above 1000 gallons of fuel oil per winter. I found I used about 25% less than normal for the months of March April and May. We have been wearing more clothing and have set furnace thermostat at 60. We moved heater from room to room based on where we were and found we were comfortable. I recently purchased a gen3 1000 and find it somewhat improved from the last years model. It appears to produce more heat. I expect this winter I will drop furnace thermostat to 55 or lower depending on outside temperature and our comfort level. Hopefully I will use 500 gallons of fuel oil this year vs 1000 gallons. The savings in fuel oil will be 1500 to 2000 dollars. The cost of the 2 units was about 800 dollars and my electric bill was not much different from normal last year, but at 20 cents per hour(2 units) perhaps may be about 30 to 40 dollars per month increase or a total of about 250 dollars for 6 months. Needless to say I should save at least 500 dollars the first year and if the units last 3 to 5 years each, the savings could be as much as 6000 to 9000 dollars over 5 years, or more depending on the cost of fuel oil.
Please do test the newer models (gen3). Otherwise the information given here is not useful to me.
About a month ago, I posted that I had purchased two edenpure 1000 heaters.
They are performing very well in my tri-level home. IN the thirty-odd years we have been in our home my wife has commented that for the first time she has not been cold.
At that time, I was unable to state what it cost me to operate the eden pure heaters. I have received my electric bill and in Virginia (Dominion Power) I would say that it is approximately $.75 (seventy five cent per day - per unit), in my case $ 1.50 per day.
If you compare this to no. 2 heating oil @ $ 2.959 per gallon (delivered on Oct 30th) and you use 21/2 gallons of oil per day or approximate cost to heat with oil is around $ 7.40 per day (that's not including the electric to fire the oil burner and the electric to run the fan.
As I said in my first post this is not an endorcement for the Eden Pure heater. But I am only sharing information that I have experienced.

My husband has been laid off his job. We cannot afford to run the central heating unit at a high temperature! Our electric rates& gas rates are over the top !! Can someone tell me a good heater we can use and turn the temperatute way down on the central unit.We have been using a Delonghi Safe Heat Solaris 1500 W, 120 - V HZ Type TRN1015T Oil filled heater in the family room. and one in the bedroom. However the one in the livinh room made a loud popping sound today. I think it is going to go out. we have been using it for about 3 years now.I would be very appreciative if someone could recommend a good model to replace it!
The funny thing about the 1000 XL being rated one of the lowest space heaters is..... it isn't a space heater! This is a supplemental source of heat. It's intended use is to regulate the temperature in a warm room so your furnace does not have to run (not warm a cold room like a space heater). This is where the savings come in. I am living proof that edenPURE will save you money. I have fuel oil, oil that normally runs me about $500 per month to warm to 66. Now with the edenPURE (and a Suntwin) I am able to be comfortable at 74, and only see an increase of $50 in my electric (2 units) . I have not used my furnace in 2 winters now! We have saved so much $ it is rediculous!
I bought a Sun Twin\Eden Pure Gen 3,from Eden Pure Midwest in November,2008.On the 2nd day I had it,I found out what the 60 day money back guarantee really was.First you must pay back the free shipping cost($30).Then after 3-7 days,15% restocking fees.8-30 days,25%.31-60 days,45%.Plus,$31 to ship it back.I sent it back, because I think that's bad business.I don't know if the heater was good or not.Read everything about the product.
I'd like real consumer info on the ComfortZone system. Has anyone purchased this one? Any info will be appreciated.

I'm using my EdenPURE Quartz Infrared heater for the second year to heat my two bedroom apartment.(1100 ft.sq.) I am more then well pleased with it. How about compairing it with the other INFRARED Heaters on the market not with the other type of heaters(space heaters)? I have a totally electric apartment with(baseboard heat as a backup which I set at 55F). I'm saving money and staying warm without drafts.

Our Edenpure melted in the front. Frankly, I'm scared to get the replacement since I've read on the net of at least 5 other instances where the unit melted. Can't wait till there's a class action suit so we have some kind of hope for getting some money back.
I am looking to purchase an EdenPure heater for my daughter and son-in-law for Christmas this year. Their house is drafty and the propane is extremely high to heat the home. I've heard good things about this unit. However, my dad, who is a firm believer in Consumer Reports, has pointed out to me that this unit is the worst unit I could purchase.
I'd love some feedback. Christmas is closing in and I need to make a decision now.
I would not recommend this product. My model 500 worked for just over a year. They will do NOTHING for you, except give you a repair center that is hundreds of miles away. How helpful is that? They are very expensive to purchase. I expected it to last for years. No savings to me. Also, heat bills were not a savings while it worked. DO NOT PURCHASE!!!
Purchased an EdenPure 1000 and use as supplemental heat in a 2100 sq ft single level condo. This is a perfect device for this aervice as the front room stays toasty warm and the kitchen and hallway are comfortable and a welcome few degrees cooler. Comsumer Reports should be testing this device as fit for purpose and not as described above. The report above is useless.
Just remember that Biotech Research is behind the EdenPure.

They sell a weight-loss pill, know as AbGone. They claim it starts working in 20 minutes. They're obviously on the revolutionary side of technology.
These units simply don't hold up very long - at $400 a pop, they don't save money when this cost is pro-rated. Bought 2 units. Had to replace one nearly right away because it ceased to function - replacement sent under warranty. Second unit ran for two winters (used sporadically as a booster to home heat) and then stopped running. Would never purchase another of these units as they simply don't perform very long before giving out and needing repair (not clear where to go locally - sending them out of state is a pain and an expense - to get them repaired).
I was dissapointed CR had done no testing this year on space heaters or humidifiers. Pleanty of reviews on cars few can afford to buy. Long time subscriber.
I purchased an eden pure 1000 gen 3 and use it in my bedroom. It works great, cycles on and off by itself, and maintains a confortable temp. I also like the HIGH feature so I can crank it up without affecting my normal temp setting. I saw in person a comfortzone today and wow, I wish I had bought that one. Easy to service, LED digital temp display, smaller and lighter, and easier to look at. Ive heard GREAT things about the COMFORTZONEe and I intend to buy that one when I am ready for another heater.
Just spent time at the cabin. Had another brand heater that could not keep up with the below zero temperatures. ( -18---or more below light wind.) One room cabin 16x16. Can the edenpure heat the cabin??? Cold in Montana.
We bought our EdenPure heater in 2007. It lasted for one year and then died. Needless to say, I was disappointed in their instructions to send it back at our expense. At almost $400 spent and to have it last for about 5 months, seems excessive to me. We should have gone to our local WalMart and purchased a space heater that would have lasted longer, plus, we could have paid half on a new corn burning stove with the amount of money that we spent.
Very disappointing.
THERE IS A DISTRIBUTOR OF IHEATER NAMED TOP TEN IMPORTS, THERE WEBSITE IS WWW.TOPTENIMPORTS.COM. THEY HAVE THE WORST SERVICE I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED.
IN ADDITION TO THIS, IHEATER ENERGY SAVINGS AND THAT IT IS GOING TO HEAT UP TO 1500 SQFT IS SUCH A LIE. SO, DONT GET RIPPED OFF AND GO LOOK FOR A BETTER PRODUCT.
TEST: Edenpure i tested used 3.08 kilowatts in 2.5 hours. On average a kilowatt is .08 cent. The settins were set in the middle of the light bar keeping a 14x20 foot room warm (70 deg). It was 7 degrees out side when tested. At that temp, it will cost $2.36 a day to heat that room.$70.80 a month to run one with just that heater. Also tested a ceramic heater and it was found to run very close to the same in costs and also kept room warm. Paid $429 for edenpure, paid $73 for ceramic. When you compare prices with gas, you find that any electric heater you use will cost about 35% more in costs. Right now i can honestly say that they are not worth it, and there is no savings. Im looking at solor and wind now for costs and storage of energy. Hope this helps. PS buy a kilowatt meter and see for your self.
I was considering getting one of these eden pure models to help out at the house(wood burner in liv.room & nat.gas in basement). due to the inconsistency in reliability, I will not get one of these. for $400 one has to be more than just hopeful.
Ive done a lot of research on EdenPure and after collecting all the information I could via consumer reports, blogs, word of mouth etc. it appears that they are more of a marketing spending machine rather than a responsible manufacturer. I have researched many similar products and reccommend both a product called the Portable Furnace www.portablefurnace.com and a similar product called The Comfort Furnace www.comfortfurnace.com. I bought a Portable Furnace for my house and I am very happy with its heat, reliability and safety. It is up to you to make your own decisions but I suggest you look into both those products.
Been considering this as a supplement to our home's heating (Oil and Wood). Must comment that there are just too many mixed reviews and I don't like that so many break down so soon. 400.00+ dollars is too much to invest into something so fragile and unsure in the practical market. Thank you Consumer reports and people for your reviews.
I purchased a Eden Pure heater for my 86yrs old dad in October 2008 it is now December 15, 2008 and the heater died. It did not even heat 1 room of the house. It only blew hot air at him. I haven't as of yet been able to get hold of these people but I did call my credit card company for credit.
I purchased an Eden Pure in 2007. It was rated for room size of 250 square feet. I used it in a 12' X 20' room for three days. It did not raise the temp of the room even one degree. Since I was not satisfied, I wanted to return the unit. Of course I had to have every last peice of the orginal packaging or they would charge extra. I happened to have saved everything so I returned it. When I was finished with the return, it cost me $75 to return a $250 product that did not work for me. So my experience was, the product didn't work as I expected and it cost me $75 to find that out. I would say I was not impressed with the product and was very un-impressed with the company.
I purchased an Edenpure last year. It was replaced twice because it simply stop working. Yesterday I had to take the one I have now in because it stopped working and they told me it would be a week. He said the safety switch was shutting it down. I have Solar Comfort that has never had a problem and I have it in a wood workshop. The Edenpure would not work for one day in the workshop. I cannot make it through one winter without a problem with the Edenpure.
I have been very happy with my iHeater. I have a farmhouse that is around 130 years old and I go through fuel oil like crazy. I put 2 iHeaters in my house and have my thermostat on 60 degrees and the temperature is registering at around 69-70 degrees. My furnace is hardly kicking on, which is unusual with the winter being as cold as it has been this year. My furnace normally would be running all the time, especially when it hit -33 degrees the last week. In fact, my son told me it was too warm in the house and wanted me to turn the heaters off. So far I have been very happy with the iHeaters and they are doing exactly what they said they would, keeping my furnace from turning on as often as they normally would, which in turn, is cutting my fuel oil dollars tremendously. If anyone else would like to save some money, check out the website where I purchased mine,
www.officialiheater.com
Hope my opinion helps.
Sincerely,
Warmer in Michigan
I brought two heaters from the Edenpure Store online in August of 07. They worked fine thru the winter, but winter of 08 the 500 Suntwin would not turn on.Contacted the Biotech Research company for repair just like it says to do on the back of the heater. I was told to ship it to Canton,OH for exchange or repair. It was already out of warranty after a year, but really was only used 3-4 months in 07!Recieved letter from Biotech saying this was the wrong place and the heater needs to be sent to another state at my expense! This was a good heater while it worked, but it is too much money to spend for one winter. The customer service is the PITS! ORDER AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Poster wanting to know of a good space heater (or whatever you call it) could look into the Bionaire. I have bought 6 so far and am so pleased with them. The first one I bought has a remote control which is great. The others didn't. I bought it at Target if you can find them. They are very hard to find. I guess you would have to go just before fall starts. I find them at reduced prices at the end of summer if there are any left.
We tried the iheater for one month. Our gas consumption was reduced by 26%, but our electrical consumption increased by 50%. I compared by bill from the same month as a year ago. Needless to say, we are spending more money on heating not less like the 30-50% they claim you will save. It gets worse. We made a huge mistake by assuming the heater was returnable. With the iheater ALL SALE ARE FINAL. Other companies have a 60 day policy. I would avoid iheater and look for another infrared heat provider.
I hope those of you who plan to get an Eden Pure will read this first. We got 3, one for my parents, sister and ourselves. The first month, each of our bills almost doubled for electricity. My parents (who are in their 90s) had their bill go up $100, which they could ill afford. My sister got her's directly from the manufacturer. They did not return her phone calls and she has sent them a letter asking to return it. We were fortunate in that we bought them from a local dealer, they guaranteed them for 60 days and we returned our two. Please don't buy these. I am shocked the Paul Harvey wouldn't investigate them more thoroughly.

Hello there. We began as a general home contractor company several years ago and about three years ago began carrying the Edenpure heaters. I know we are a bit biased due to selling them, but yes they do work. The idea though is Not to turn down your thermostat. Leave your temperature set at whatever you like for your furnace and centrally locate your Edenpure in your home. The Edenpure will run most of the time and your furnace will only kick on to keep it at the temperature you set it at. As far as a melted from goes. This is normally caused by a restriction in airflow through the unit which results in it not being able to shed all it's heat. It still though is not going to catch on fire. Just make sure you clean the filters and leave about a foot behind the unit for it to breath. If you want, you can find more information at http://www.pureenergystore.com.
I purchased an EDEN Pure heater this last fall and loved it. I showed it to everyone who came in. My house truly was warmer with it. A couple of weeks ago, however, it started to act up. After running awhile, it started to blow cold air. I had to unplug it from the wall, let it sit for about five minutes, and start it over. I thought it was just a fluke. About a week later, it did it again. Same story. A few days ago, it began doing this all the time. It will only run warm air for about three or four minutes. I believe I need to have it replaced. Can you help me? Thank you.

The edenpure heater is an expensive piece of garbage. Mine lasted just beyond the one year warranty and died. This happened to two of my friends also. You can buy small heaters at the local hardware store for a tenth of the price and they will last a lot longer.
we purchased our unit in november and since then our electric bill has more thna doubled, i thought it was just a faulty unit but when i started talking about it at work 2 of my co workers stated they had purchased the same units and they both have put them away becuase they can not afford the electric bill. These units can be found in our local classifieds quite often, it never crossed my mind that they would cost me more money.
Before purchasing, my wife and I did a thorough investigation on the quartz heaters Eden Pure and Comfort Zone (now Comfort furnace) and chose the Comfort Zone. We are very happy with the unit and it offsets the cost of using Pellets which we primarily heat with in our 2000 sq/ft home....but since it is a two story OLD farm house (over 100 yrs) we are going to get another one for our other level (we currenlty heat upstairs with this one).
We have found that keeping the home humidified properly increases the effectiveness and feeling of warmth GREATLY. I have a friend who didn't like his Eden Pure....and when I told him about keeping his home humidified properly he tried it and changed his tune, now happy with the amount of warmth his family feels.
We have not seen a significant increase in our electric bill and this is a VERY cold winter.........and we're warm. Hope this helps.
We bought EdenPure 1000 in spring of 2008. First one did not work at all sent back at my expense, shipping 38$.Recieved replacement it lasted 90days running about3hrs. per day.DO NOT BUY! JUNK
Junk JUNK Junk
The junk box I bought as a heater lasted 2 months.
Now I reset it 1000 time only for it to run 2 mins and kick off and never come back on.
If anyone buys one I'll see you at the neurosurgeon.
I bought one and I'm going to have my head examaned !!!!!!
Edenpure heaters and Comfortzone heaters are one in the same, unfortunately the horrific customer service and "song and dance" add on value by the Amish craftsman is the result of a America giving away it's its manufacturing base to foreign countries. Yes, thats right dear American consumer, these heaters are made in China, and all the marketing hype falls under the category of "don't sell the steak, sell the sizzle"
God bless Paul Harvey. RIP
I do not understand your test on eden pure heaters/ We purchased a eden pure 500 two years ago...It saved us about $25 month november thru march of 2007-2008. So we purchased another enden pure 1000 last year.....We kept the thermostat at 58 degrees from november to march 2008-2009. It saved us about $55 a month for those months. You really should retest the eden pure heaters. We absolutely love them. The only problem we have had is the filter sometimes keeps the eden pure 1000 from going on automatically.........
what is your street address
HOW CAN I CHECK ON THE STATUS OF THE EDENPURE HEATER THAT I ORDERED WEEKS AGO! PAUL LEMIEUX
I have bought a eden heater in Dec 2008 it worked for about a mouth then it didn,t work I called the company and want it by money back they have a 60 day money back warrantry they would not give me my money back I had to send it three times it still didnt work they them sent me a new one that one didnt work sent it back they lost it sent me a new one again and this one willnot work and willnot do anything at all about this one they told me they donot call if I am not happy with this deal I feel I got ripped off big time all wy trips to send them in plus when I did run it it took about 160.00 amonth to run to me that was not a saving at are I would say donot get one I would not have another one if someone gave it to me free I would not take it to me they are a piece of junk. Shirlee Trzebiatowski
Your test report isn't really worth anything if your latest test was of 2007 models. We're nearly three years away from that and it would be helpful if you would test a 2009 model GEN3 Model 500 or Model 1000. Since heating prices continue to rise and alternative sources are desirable, we hope you'll update this report sometime soon.
Thanks,
I must admit, I was swayed by the Eden Pure brochures showing up in my PO Box about once a month. The brochures always featured a buy it now sale price of $397.00 for the 1000 model. I purchased mine on ebay as a refurbished model for $297.00 (I am sure this was not a refurbished model, but just a way to unload new product at a cheaper price). What's my verdict? Save your money and just buy a $30.00 ceramic heater - it'll do the same job. I am purchasing an air to air heat pump -currently on sale at a local hardware store for $497.00 - that puts out almost 3 times the BTU as the Eden Pure and uses less electricity.
Dont understand??half of the emails think the edenpure is JUNK dont buy it. The other half LOVE it.What is the TRUTH.??? thank you
I am supposed to start selling a heating unit that looks to me a lot like the Edenpure infered heater. It is called Heatsmart Heaters. I really need to know prior to making a major committment to these people if this is a truely good unit or just another scam on the public??
Your immediate reply would be much appreciated because I need to start to work for these folks in only 8 days.
Thank you,
Denny Comer
We have several friends who have the comfort Zone and are very pleased with ease of operation and cost efficiency. With all the negative testamonials about EdenPure we are going to purchase the comfort Zone. We also like the different cabinet styles available with comfort Zone.
what is the best portable heater on market?
Eden PURE is not some new and revolutionary product, it’s been around for years. I first encountered it 30 years ago at a RV Mobile Home show a the university of Notre Dame, marketed by a company out of Peoria Illinois. We explored the possibility of distributing the heater then called The Infer Molecular Heater, and was invited to visit the companies headquarters in Illinois. They had a very impressive facility to demonstrate the heater and a very slick sales pitch, but they did not manufacture the unit but contracted out the manufacturing. With few exceptions it was identical to the Eden PURE but had 4 inferred lights and a steel plate with nails welded on inside.
Before we committed to a distributorship we ordered 25 heaters to run our own tests. To say the heaters were a failure was a gross under statement. In a cold home four heaters ran for three days and raised the temperature only 2 degrees. They would maintain 70 degrees in a small room that had been heated to 70 degrees but would not increase the temperature. After conferring with a teaching Ph’d Professor of physics at a major university who explained that the light bulbs and a small fan would accomplish the same results at a fraction of the cost. After running over 15 tests, of witch only 2 showed any mediocre positive results, it was our conclusion that a $30 of the shelf heater would accomplish equal results. The consensus of all of our people involved in the testing was that it was a well packaged and promoted high priced fraud.
I purchased the original Eden Pure 500 unit in 2007. It ran fine for a couple of months and then it quit. I called for service, it was returned for service in early February 2007. At that time we traded up to the 1000 unit. It arrived back just as we were leaving for Florida so I did not even bother to unpack it but stored it for the following season. In December 2008 I unpacked the replacement unit and we used it for a time. We went to Florida in January 2009 and again in late February so I again packed it up in the original box and stored it. This unit was probably used for part of December 2008, part of January 2009 and part of February 2009; not a full season of use by any measure.
Six days ago, due to a problem with the main furnace, I unpacked the heater. We have used it in the evening over the last few days to take the chill out. Tonight it apparently has failed again, control lights but no heat.
When it works it is fine but that seems to be an increasingly rare occurrence. I will be calling them tomorrow. I don’t know what my options are but I will not be talked into another unit. I also doubt that I will get any satisfaction from them but I will try. If they replace it, it has to be at their expense, I have spent enough money on shipping already.
I thrive on the dependability of my appliances and this doesn’t measure up. When I pay top dollar for something I expect it to work dependably, that is not what I have experienced with the either of the two Eden Pure heaters.
I wish I had found this thread before making that initial heater purchase. Does anyone know where to get parts for these orphans? I am handy enough to tackle fixing it myself, probably the only way I can afford to own one. Gosh, that will probably void the basically none existent warranty.
I bought an Eden Pure last winter. It was the $483.00 model. I ran it for an hour, until the awful smell began to affect my breathing. I then saw "Made in China" on the box, and my blood pressure soared! Almost $500.00 for a Chinese heater! I put on my best behavior with the lady at the company, and was lucky to avoid the $74.00 it would have cost me, as they paid the return/restock fee. When I took it to the UPS store, the fellow there showed me 2 others being returned that morning! Some fine advertisement, especially when there are only 8500 people in my town! How many are being returned would no doubt boggle the mind! STAY AWAY FROM IT!
I was in the mode of purchasing one of these units but reading all the comments and seeing all the negativity I am backing away.
I'm thinking on bying a edenpure , but after reading all the feedback, I won't, I currently heat my house with wood, and only wood, and its 80 to 85 in my house on a minus 40 day in northern Ontario, the only thing it costs me is time to go cut the wood, small price to pay for heat plus I stay in shape.
We have a tri-level house (1800sq. ft.)in Va. that has an oil furnace. We normally use about 500 gals. of oil per year. We bought a Eden Pure 1000 heater and set it in the living room. We turned our thermostat on 68 and ran the hearer on almost high. We turned the heater off at night and let the furnace heat the house. Our electric bill went up about $30 per month (Oct-Mar).
When I filled my oil tank this year it took 236 gals. We saved about 260 gals. This was a savings of about $650 of oil. We spent about an extra $180 for electricity for a savings of $470.
We purchased another one this year to put downstairs in the family room to keep it warm. This is not a commerical for EdenPure, I am just telling you my experience. I'll keep my fingers crossed that mine don't break down.
EdenPURE states that it will save up to 50% on your heating bill. This is a warning in itself. When raising the temperature of a room, any electric heater is going to run at near 100% efficiency. One kilowatt hour of electricity contains approximately 3140 BTU of heat, period. There is no magic system to increase this value. Buyer beware.
Do not confuse a heat pump with an electric heater. A heat pump uses electricity to run a compressor to extract heat from the air. Like a refrigerator in reverse.
We are suppose to purchase EdenPure..reading all the reports we decided not to have it.You're right..! Mr.Marc wood is still the most efficient...and we would like to thank consumer report org.and to all the consumers who shared their bad experiences of the products..not only EdenPure..,other products..
I am no expert but here is my story....I have fuel oil heat and it went to $4.00 a gallon. I contacted my furnace company and was told I have a 3/4 gallon nozzle. That translates into costing me $3.00 for every hour my fuel oil furnace runs PLUS the cost of electricity to drive/blow it. So I searched for savings. I looked at Eden pure and Comfort Zone and chose comfort zone because at the time Comfort Zone had a 3 year warranty and Eden pure only had a one year. That has changed now as Eden Pure matched. The other reason was the cabinetry on CZ looked nicer AND it had a digital display as compared to the bar graph on Eden Pure. I bought one CZ and ran it 24/7 on max. It never failed. I ran it so hard it actually began to melt the mantel below where the heat comes out. This was a cosmetic flaw only and a call to CZ got me a free replacement mantle in the mail. I liked my first unit so much I ordered a second and now have 3 running in a ranch style home. One down and two up. I have the breaker pulled on my fuel oil furnace! I am not using less oil, I am using no oil! I ran into my fuel oil deliveryman in the bank last winter and he asked what was going on at my house? He said "Ive delivered fuel oil to you for 20 years and there is no way you can go all winter without fuel oil!" I said there is NOW. All my family and friends witnessed all of this and have become customers as well, many buying multiple units. Usually one unit will not heat a house but remember it is designed to suplement and not replace. A past comment complained that they are foreign made. This is very true.....but what isn't today? Lastly, I will add this. I consider myself a red blooded American patriot that loves this country and I certainly prefer to send my hard earned money to hard working Americans digging coal for electricity in Appalachia rather than send my money to the middle east for oil so they can plot to burn down America. We all have a choice and thats why we die for the freedoms we enjoy. God Bless America! Greg 419-938-6322
I bought an Eden 500xl heater from the factory. It worked well but produced little heat, so I ordered the more expensive Sun-Twin. The Sun-Twin died at about 4 months, and I had the original carton and paid for shipping. The company repaired it saying it was the "led board". The smaller 500xl died and I called the company and they "had no record of it's purchase" and refused to accept it back for repair. I am trying to find someone in my area to repair it. Overall, I have been very disappointed as I have spent over 700 dollars. I couls have just turned my heat pump up and it would have taken years to match the 700 dollars I spent on these overhyped units. Ervin
After reading all the comments and looking at all the mfg. ads.
one thing is being overlooked. All these products are are powered by some sort of electrical element. All electrical elements have a life limit. 20,000 hrs ---65,000 hours and they burn out. In short, a very expensive element that you had hoped would last forever. Remember when a toaster would last 20 years? Now they burn out in 12-18 months if used every day. It is economy. It burns out so you have to buy another one. That how manufactures stay in business. Insulate your home as much as you can. Put on a sweat shirt. I have a wood pellet stove. Yes I have to hall bags of pellets. but it keeps me strong and warm. A 70 year old grandma. My winter heating bill is about half of of what my neighbors, for the last 4 winters. As I have investigated the claims of the manufactures and comments of buyers, I will stick with what I have.
I will not be buying any of the famous heaters that are said to save you heating bill. Good luck and have a great day.
I CAME SO CLOSE TO BUYING ONE-------THEN I READ THESE LETTERS----THEY COULD NOT GIVE ME ONE----THANKS C/R U SAVED ME AGAIN...
Hi, I read this article and found that it was not entirely correct. Now I am not an advocate of Edenpure. In fact, I am with a competing brand of Infrared heater. I have spent years researching and testing all the major Infrared heater brands. I even own several of these models. So I can speak by experience.
Although I do not think Edenpure is the best Infrared heater on the market, it is a good heat source that will outperform the other conventional space heaters.
The problem here is that the article is not taking into account as to how Infrared works and why it is getting so popular. First, it does not rob the air of humidity like gas, wood, propane, electric fireplaces, etc.
By not frying the air and not robbing the humidity, it actually attaches heat to the water molecules. This creates a more dense, heavier air that does not fly right to the ceiling. You feel it more too!
Think of it this way. If you went to a humid state and the temp was 72 degrees, you would feel hotter than a dry state that is 72 degrees.
In most areas Infrared heaters are proving to be cheaper than other forms of heating. It really depends on where you are to your savings. I saved a lot of money over my gas.
Another thing is that a 1500 watt radiant or similar will cost the same to run as an Infrared heater. However, you will heat about 5x more the area with Infrared. Nobody can tell me different.
Before I started selling Solar Comfort Infrared heaters, I was in need of more heat. I tried that hot radiant dish from Costco for like $60. The amount of heat it puts out would make you think you can heat a huge area. Well I had mine returned in 5 days as it could not heat but just in front of it.
Infrared heaters work! However, I would like to see the industry cleaned up with more realistic expectations. Forget the 'heat for pennies a day!', or 'at the price of a coffee maker', or even heat 1000 plus square feet. I claim 600-800sq. ft. as a supplemental heater and so should they. A coffee maker? Pennies a day? $1.45 or more a day is more realistic.
Also what if it did cost you the same but you have a heater that is zoneable and is not drying out your air? Do you have chills you just can't seem to heat with other sources? Do you have circulatory issues? These are other things to consider.
I hope this helps. If you have questions feel free to contact me and I will do my best to help.

An older gentleman I know just bought a EdenPure today and I told him he just might as well return it. I told him its just an expensive space heater.....I know my electricity.....1500Watt heater will put out 1500watts no matter how (In)Expensive it is.
$400 or $40...which one costs more in the long run from the start?????
I'm amazed! Not with the EdenPure heater, but at how gullible many people are to buy into the hype about this heater. "Even heat that doesn't rise to the ceiling" C'mon, is that the "new physics" Anyone should know that electric space heaters are a costly way to heat a home. Spend the money on caulking and insulation and you'll be more comfortable at lower costs. Space heaters have a purpose, buy get one at you home store for a fraction of the cost of one of these. People like Bob Villa, who hawk these things on TV should be ashamed. All his credibility os completely gone as fas as I'm concerned. Also, shame on Consumer reports for dancing around the real issue and not simply stating that these things are a ripoff.
My first Eden Pure worked for two days. Got it exchanged and now this one cycles on and off when the temperature drops. So, the end result is a cold room. I do not recommend this heater.
I read up considerably on the Edenpure heater and decided not to buy one. I went to the Big E in Mass. this year and there was an Edenpure dealer with a booth in the commercial building. One salesman tried to give me the sales pitch and I told him that my research led me to decide it was a poor unit to buy. Another salesman next to him, who was talking to 2 customers, immediately jumped in my face and started yelling at me saying "Oh YEAH, then how come I sold 9 million of these last year, HUH?!?!" He was visibly agitated and his 2 customers walked away with a shocked expression on their faces. I told him that he should read up on CR's website, and that just made him angrier.....I'd never buy one after that!
Some of these people aren't in their right minds.since i've had mine,my furnace hasn't kicked on yet!My furnace would usually run every 15 minutes.gotta be saving somewhere.maybe their on a wrong amp. circuit.i also feel placement in the home is important.no longer do i have ice cold plaster walls, their putting off heat.THUMBS UP TO EDEN-PURE!!!!!!!!
I recently saw the EdenPure in a local hardware store. I did not immediatley purchase the heater. I was impressed with the quiet heat that the EdenPure put out. Upon further inspection, I noticed that the unit for sale had a 12/2008 manufacturer's date and no UL listing, another red flag. After reading all the negative comments here, I have decided not to waste $400 on a chinese piece of junk. I am a master electrician and it seems that there is a flaw in the limit, thermal, cut out switches or connections of the wiring. Intense heat will cause problems with what I have suggested where users experience "cold" heat. I would like to dismantle one of these to see how it operates and possibly find the flaw. Another possible problem may involve the infared heater. If these are dropped or banged around, the element will break. Similar to a light bulb filament. Well, thank you all for saving me $400. When you go out and purchase anything, please look for the MADE IN THE USA stamp. Keep our own employeed.
Thanks for all the great feedback on this product ! I'm so happy that I didn't make a spontanious decision! The infomercial was so convincing I knew it was to good to be true! 50% savings? Really? There is no way I will pay $400 for a product that fails and stops working for so many customers! And some have had it melt on them, that is scary! Thanks again for the info and saving me the money and disappointment!!
Boy, I sure wish I had read all these comments before buying my Eden pure. Of course, depending on whether or not your unit is still working, will determine which side of the fence you are on!!! Before this morning, I would have said... geez, I don't understand... we love our unit that we purchased last fall. It has been a great unit, saved us tremendously on propane heating costs. Normally we would go thru 1100 gallons per winter. Last year we only went thru 500. Put it away for summer. Now this year, since the weather has turned cold, we brought it back out, planning on another warm winter, and have been running it for 2 weeks. All of a sudden, this morning, it turned into an air-conditioning unit. We woke up to a very cold house, and with 2 toddlers, that's not fun!!! I am uncertain if I will go thru what sounds like a hassle to get it repaired, or just chalk it up to experience and start with another adventure with another source of heat. The verdict... I jumped the fence overnight!! Thank you all for your input, and one final thought... I didn't know they were made in china, but for me... that says it all!!!
Read what their ad says: "will not not reduce the humidity in the room" the lack of humidity in a house is do due infiltration when cold air is brought into the house and heated up to room temperature it will reduce the humidity
no matter what type of heat you use! Force air, hot water heat, or electric heat all types of heat will reduce humidity in a house it is called physics or psychometrics. Second it will heat up to 1000 feet square feet? Where in southern Florida? 1 watt of electricity produces 3.41 British Thermal Units
(B.T.U.) Base on 1500 watt circuit that will produce around 5000 BTU,s which might heat a room 150 to 300 square feet in northern climates. Do the math. Save your money please if you want a electric space heater there are heaters that are just as safe at 1/10 the cost!
I want to heat my bedroom so when I get up in the morning it will be warmer than the rest of the house. I was about to purchase an EdenPure, but after reading these posts, it seems EdenPure should clean up their act first and produce a much better product including their customer service. What type of heater, then do you all recommend? And is a ComfortZone furnace an EdenPure product? And do these products, infrared furnances, really use less energy than turning on the central natural gas furnace?
I recently purchased an Eden Pure 1000 and I wish I had read the comments prior to ordering. Upon receipt of the first machine, the machine had been damaged in transit and I returned it UPS. The UPS people were very helpful. I asked for a replacement and received it 2 days ago. After opening it up, I noted a noise of loose impedements inside the machine and the cord hanger was cracked making it impossible to use. In my effort to see the see if the device worked, I turned it on and found the controls did not work even when following the instructions. The only way to shut it off was to pull the "grounded plug". I am now planning to return the machine tomorrow. Quality control is certenly not the forte of Biotech Research. Heads up Bio Tech. I want my money back.
Three months ago I purchased a GEN3 Model 1000. Since it was warm at that time I did not use it until about 6 weeks ago. It is used to heat my office, about 450 square feet. Prior to using the Model 1000 I used a $40.00 quartz heater. To my amazement after getting my utility bill the $40.00 heater cost 1/3 less to operate and heated better. The Eden Pure takes 6 hours to heat my office from 55 degrees to 65 degrees. I have a wood floor and they tell me to put it on carpet. The $40.00 quartz heater was on the wood floor.
Don't waste your money, I have a $400.00 piece of junk that I cannot return because the 60 period is up.
I now have my $40.00 quartz heater heating my room and the Eden Pure Gen3 is in the closet.
Eden Pure really sucks!
For the extremely high price, these are no value at all.
It's just a quartz heater in a fancy container.
And remember, if you need to return the EdenPure heater YOU will pay the return shipping (usually by their specified carrier)PLUS a re-stocking fee based on how long you've had the unit.
These types of return policies are designed to make it not worth your while to return the product.
You're better off buying a quality fan-driven portable electric heater for under $100 from your local Home Dept..
Make sure it has tip-over and over-heat protection. (If it gets knocked over, or the thermostat fails it shuts off.
And if you have to return it for some reason, the only cost is the gas to drive back to the store.
Another thing to consider before laying out major money for this.. It's an infomercial. 'Nuff said.
Please read the November 1, 2009 post by Charles. His report tracks exactly with my experience and explains it well.
The fact (for me) is that my heaters work very, very well. I have a 2500 sq. ft. home in Kansas and I no longer run my gas furnace in the winter except for the coldest days. I have 3 GEN 3 1000 EdenPure heaters. I run my furnace fan constantly to circulate air, and I use a humidifier so my house is not dry. The heat in my house is very comfortable and seems to include the entire room - not warm and cold spots. But I do run them day/night as they are needed to maintain current temperatures. These aren't a "blast heat" space heaters. They are an excellent supplemental heat source which saves me money, since the cost of gas > the cost of electric in Kansas. I have a well-insulated house with relatively new replacement windows.
DON'T Buy this. The people who say it works are full of it. Paid or work for the Company. Everyone who says it stinks aren't endorsing anything else. Believe us, we have nothing to lose. THhese heaters Don't work .If they do its far and few in between. you are more likely to get a lemon or a defect. THE COMPANY SUX when it comes to Customer Assistance. You will be stuck with garbage once you buy and aren't satisfied. It is sad that so many people will LIE just to make a buck and screw over so many other unsuspecting Americans.
I manage an Electric Coop. and I'd like to say we love the high electric bills these heaters produce. Please save yourself some money and buy a $ 50 heater that will produce the same heat and electric bill. After finding a 50% jump in your electric bill you might find it easier to cut your losses if you only spent $ 50. If you paid $ 400 you are bound to keep using the heater to help cover up your ignorance. Spend the money on a pellet/corn/wood stove and enjoy real saving and real heat. Turn down the thermostat and buy a snuggie!!!
Just to second the comments by others. The laws of physics apply here and this heater will use the same amount of energy as any other 1,500 watt heater and put out the exact same amount of heat for the same cost. Not a penny more or less.
Wal-Mart sells a 1,500 watt ceramic heater for $18 (as do many other stores) which will do the exact same job for less than 1/20th of the cost. And it's much smaller and you could buy 22 of them for the cost of this one. Aside from the lousy quality and terrible service, if you understand how electric heaters work you will come to see that almost all of the claims of Edenpure are exaggerated and laughable when they are not completely ridiculous. All the blather about copper tubes and infrared doesn't change the fact that one watt of energy goes in, one watt of energy comes out. No exceptions to that rule.
Consumer Reports was far too kind. With the number of people clearly getting completely ripped off here I don't understand why someone doesn't shut them down. Buyer beware I guess.
Darrel.
It seem's that no one know's a tinker's damn about these heater's,so I'd say don't buy one
Today I saw the commercial with Bob Vila's huge endorsement of the EdenPure unit. I was thinking that if Bob Vila endorsed it, it most likely was a good product. Why would he endorse something that has many issues. I guess money is more important than his reputation. Then I read though all the comments. Living not far from Buffalo, NY, we get snow, wind-chill, lake effect and even power outages at times due to storms. Living in a turn of the century house and having a body that runs cold, I thought that infrared heating could be another way to heat up. I will pass on this product. Thank you to all who commented!
thank a lot for all the comments about these heaters, made up my mind now not to buy one grin and bear the price of an all eltc. barber shop.
thank you all
Harold
I purchased a Edenpure heater a few years ago; SAVE YOUR MONEY!
I have it in my bathroom since it is so much colder than the rest of the house to warm it up; set it on 72 and it had never heated my bathroom enough to shut off after being on for many hours.
They have 2 quartz light bulbs and some reflector copper and a fan; and they want sooo much money and they don't do what they say they will. It makes lots of noise while it is on and it never shuts off cause it don't warm up my small bathroom to 70 degrees and it has been on for hours. I originally got this for my family room; that was a joke of all jokes; all it did was blow the cold air around.
Save your money people.
Think it would be possible to get a class action suit against Edenpure for false advertising????
So, pray tell, what space heater do ya'll recommend that I purchase?
I see the astroturf shills are here hard at work trying to hawk their latest marvel. You're gonna pay for that heating one way or the other, whether it comes from your furnace or from your wall outlets. You're just making your local electric company and Edenpure rich by purchasing one of these.
Use your brains people!
Hello to all, after reading these posts and looking at others indictators regarding this product - it is sad the Bob V. endorsed this product.........Hmm, this may explain why you don't see him anymore. Thanks to all those that posted thier candid thoughts..... Will conitnue to look around for an alternate source......for heat.
I got the Edenpure Gen3 model 1000 this week. That day was a cold one, and my house heat was kicking on and off at least 2 times an hour. When my father inlaw dropped off this heater at about 1-2 oclock in the afternoon I immediately turned it on and was suprised how quiet it was. After it was on for the rest of the day I realized that my house heat had only kicked on once. The time was 10 oclock at nite now. I have had it for 5 days and my house heat comes on 1-3 times a day. The best part is that I did not have to pay for this heater. Thank you, old fart.
Bought my edenpure in 2007 . It just died. I called biotech and
inquired about repairs. There are no service areas in New Jersey.
Basically, they said they cannot do anything (tough luck) but I could ship it to them for repair--an expensive alternative. Their customer service is terrible. I would never recommend this product to anyone. If customer service is bad, usually so is the product if they cannot back it up. It is going to the trash.
Since Consumer Reports CR admits to never having tested the GEN3 Model 500 or 1000, the negative comments are absolutely absurd. I own a GEN3 1000 and just bought a second one yesterday for another part of my home. I love it and have absolutely nothing bad to say about it. The CR comments don't apply to these models. The complaint about the controls is negated because the GEN 3's have a Remote Control, the overheat protection comment is also negated because the GEN 3's have that feature also. I'm disappointed for the very first time with CR. This article is unfair. You did us all a disservice on this article CR, time to correct it. Please just test them and then post an unbiased report.
I bought two of the EdenPure heaters just four days ago. I've used them for two days now and I have to say that they seem to be an overhyped commercial type of product. Both heaters barely put out any heat on the highest settings. Yes, I read the manual! I tinkered with it, my husband tinkered with it, we read the manual again, etc. I'm extremely techy so I'm sure we're not doing something wrong as well.
The heaters (both of them) will also not turn off unless you unplug them. We tried to turn them off with the button on the heater and the remote and both heaters were the same. They wouldn't turn off. Ever. We had to unplug them or they would continue to run.
I searched online for a Consumer Reports review after receiving these because I became suspicious of the company's claims. If both of my heaters barely put out any heat, what were the odds that both were broken? I figured that it was just a junk product and wondered what reviews there were out on it. I REALLY should have read reviews BEFORE buying.
The good news is that since I just purchased them I should be able to return them for a refund. I was nervous after reading the reports here about return shipping costs, restock fees, etc. so I called the company.
Here is what I did to ensure that I am treated fairly by this company:
I informed the CSR on the phone that our conversation was being recorded by me for MY quality assurance and documentation of any claims or policies stated by the CSR as a representative of the company. I had him on speaker phone and was using a small recorder to document the call.
He immediately started saying the call was breaking up and that he couldn't hear me.
I informed him that if he tried to hang up on me or end the call that I would call back and ask for his supervisor and/or make a report to the BBB. This definitely got his attention. Miraculously, he could hear me just fine after that!
So I proceeded to ask very specific questions regarding the return policy, any possible restocking fees, and who exactly pays for the return shipping. I informed the CSR that in his response he was to state the company name, his name, his extension, and the product name and model number prior to any statements made on the company's behalf as I was recording the entire call. I'm sure he was annoyed but I assured him that I was doing this only for my own protection as a consumer and that it wasn't personal. I also informed him that it was a digital recorder and that I would be glad to forward an MP3 file of our conversation either to the company or to the BBB if my returns were not processed properly so either the company or the BBB could hear exactly what was discussed and what he stated as company policy.
It was interesting that he kept "forgetting" to follow my directions regarding his responses. He would be very vague about something and I would have to ask him to clarify and state in a complete sentence exactly what I had asked and his response including the company name, his name, his extension number, and the product name and model number. For example, I asked him to tell me who pays for shipping to return the product. He said, "UPS is our preferred carrier." I told him that was not what I asked and that I wasn't prepared to play games all day long to do a return and to answer the question that I actually asked. I restated the question and directed him to answer only the question that I asked.
I had to do this for EVERY SINGLE QUESTION I HAD. At every turn, I had to direct the CSR to answer my question only in a complete sentence and to not stray to other topics. I spent over 30 minutes on the phone with this CSR trying to get him to actually answer my questions!!! That was after I spent over ten minutes on hold as well.
This was very frustrating and disheartening because it seemed that the CSR was deliberately being vague and not volunteering any information regarding the return. I had to ask very specific questions such as:
1. Is there a way to get a prepaid shipping label for returns that are provided and paid for by the company themselves without charging my credit card for the return shipping charges?
FIRST CSR ANSWER: We have shipping labels. They are on the receipt that you received with the items. (This is not what I asked. Notice that? I felt like he wasn't going to offer company issued prepaid and insured shipping labels unless I pressed the issue so I did.)
CSR ANSWER AFTER I DIRECTED HIM HOW I WANTED HIM TO RESPOND: Yes, BioTech Research, makers of the EdenPure Gen3 Model 1000 heater will issue you a prepaid and insured shipping label at the company's expense to return your heater via UPS and your credit card will not be charged for the return shipping fees. (It took me about five minutes to get this answer after going back and forth and directing the CSR to answer the question I asked instead of telling me how to pack the heater or which carrier to use. I know how to pack it because I UNPACKED IT. I will use whichever carrier you tell me to because I want YOU as the manufacturer to pay for the return shipping on this piece of junk!)
2. How will I receive the prepaid shipping labels? Via email or snail mail?
FIRST CSR ANSWER: We can send them out to you with the contact information we have on file. (Notice again that I did not get a specific answer the first time?)
CSR ANSWER AFTER I DIRECTED HIM HOW I WANTED HIM TO RESPOND:
You, the consumer, will receive two prepaid shipping labels for your two EdenPure Gen3 Model 1000 heaters from BioTech Research via email within 1-2 business days because you have chosen the email version of receiving the prepaid and insured shipping labels rather than the regular mail version of receiving the labels. The prepaid and insured shipping labels are for UPS carrier services and must be used with UPS to be valid. The email from BioTech Research that sends you these prepaid and insured return shipping labels "could" come from the email address "pkginfo@ups.com" but he could not confirm this. He then stated that sometimes the email with the prepaid return shipping labels (to be printed by the consumer at home) can get sent to the trash bin or blocked by your ISP or email program and that just because an email providing the prepaid and insured return shipping labels is not received doesn't meant that it was not sent by the company. When I pressed for the actual address that would be used to email me those labels so I could search my gmail account for that email address, he admitted that he really wasn't sure which email address would be used to issue the labels for my printing at home.
END RESULT: I am now on the lookout for a phantom email that may or may not arrive from SOME email address that may or may not be associated with BioTech Research. LOVELY.
3. How will I know that my heaters were received by the company for return? Will you send me an email or a letter stating that you have received my return and that you are processing my refund?
FIRST CSR ANSWER: No.
CSR ANSWER AFTER I DIRECTED HIM HOW I WANTED HIM TO RESPOND:
No, BioTech Research does not notify the customer that their returned product has been received.
4. Can you send me an email or letter stating that my returned products were received if I request one?
FIRST CSR ANSWER: I don't think so.
CSR ANSWER AFTER I DIRECTED HIM HOW I WANTED HIM TO RESPOND:
BioTech Research will send you an email or letter stating that your returned products were received if you request one. We will use the contact information that you have on file. Your account must be flagged by a CSR in order to do so. I will flag your account that you are waiting to receive confirmation of the returned items.
***REALLY? Why was that so difficult? I don't actually believe that the company will do it, but I did ask for confirmation of the returns and I do have the statement recorded for documentation.***
4. Once you receive my returned items, how long before I receive a full refund of my initial payment (I purchased the heaters on a special offer of $39 down and $89.50 x 4 monthly payments).
FIRST CSR ANSWER: 7-10 days.
***Notice how he did not say FULL refund. He just stated a date range?***
CSR ANSWER AFTER I DIRECTED HIM HOW I WANTED HIM TO RESPOND:
BioTech Research will issue you a full refund of the amount you have paid for the product within 7-10 business days after we receive your returned products.
5. Is there any restocking fee whatsoever for the return of this product, whether returned today or within 60 days from now, and does that restocking fee vary by the length of time after initial purchase that the item is returned?
FIRST CSR ANSWER. No.
***Notice how he answered very short and without really answering the question almost every time he responded? Notice how in his first answer he does not say full refund?***
CSR ANSWER AFTER I DIRECTED HIM HOW I WANTED HIM TO RESPOND:
BioTech Research does not charge a restocking fee or return fee on the EdenPure Gen3 Model 1000 heater if you return the item within 60 days after your initial purchase date.
6. Will your company send me an email or letter stating that my payment agreement has been cancelled due to the product being returned?
FIRST CSR ANSWER: No.
CSR ANSWER AFTER I DIRECTED HIM HOW I WANTED HIM TO RESPOND:
BioTech Research will not send you an email or letter stating that the payment agreement has been cancelled due to the product being returned.
***Really? Isn't this good business practice to do so? I'm pretty surprised by this.***

I will continue to post to this page/blog as my return experience continues with BioTech Research.
My advice: Go out and buy a sweatershirt or "snuggie" or even a $40 space heater and skip the run around with the EdenPure heater. It doesn't do what they say it does. It barely puts out any heat and it's completely overpriced. I have concerns about the units not shutting off also.
I am very happy with my EDEN PURE 1000. It keeps the gas furnace from cycling on and off. It has become a good source for supplemental heat.I find that the forced gas furnace doesn't run as much. After reading all of the comments, it's likely there might be a quality control issue in the manufacturing process of these units. People shouldn't expect a portable heater to replace central heating.
I purchased 2 Edenpure Gen3 heaters last year. Half the time it runs cold when the level is maxed to 'warmest'. My 'heat bills' have NOT reduced whatsoever. Your gas bill may be reduced.... but your electric bill is NOT. Not a good choice.... their advertising is VERY MISLEADING. The heat feels good... but my bills are just as expensive as before!
Was seriously thinking about buying one of these units, primarily because of the Bob Villa endorsement and that of a friend who had purchased one. While doing some cost comparisons, found one for 60 dollars less, so called the company to see if they would match it or at least take half of that off the price. It became apparent that their sales department is not going to match any price that is less (regardless of what the ad says). To me this is a BIG Red flag about the level of customer service. After reading the many comments about encountering problems and having return / warranty issues, I have decided that I'll go to Wal-Mart and just buy a ceramic heater. Too bad they don't read some of the postings so that they can improve the product and customer service.
I knew these units could not live up to the hype , Bob Villa endorses them because he is old and washed up needed extra cash , wait until scratch comes for his soul... I have had a few good heaters that are excellent fro room heat so you can heat that room an turn down the thermostat , unfortunately every electrical applaince you buy these days has a controllboard which is a circuit board with transistors resistors and relays and these are prone to fail teh one on my york furnace failed after 2 years , the one in my craftsmen flourescent shop ligt failed after 90 days and teh one in one of my space heaters failed after 3 years the other after 4 years but hey i paid 39.00 for them I highly recomend these they have thermostat controls that are very accurate they are made by honeywell theya re about 3 feet long and 8 inches tall look similar to a baseboard heater (dont hav teh model number or name ) bought them at home depot or lowes you could probably google it and find tehm since ya can buy 10 for teh price of one edenpure junkin teh box its worth tryin one of these first , an remember tehse are supplemental heaters not intended to heat multiple rooms just teh room you are in teh rset of terh house wil only be as warm as ya set the thermostat to.
I have had a Sun Twin for a year. I tried it in a basement room and the concrete absorbed most of the heat. I moved it upstairs and it works much better. Here is a site where you can compare gas vs electric for heating. http://www.peco.com/pecowebsite/peco/html/electric.htm When I fed in my costs electric was double the cost of gas. One thing that has not been talked about is fans. Most space heaters have terrible circulation fans. I think the makers of infrared heaters use this to their advantage. Most have much more efficient fans. My opinion is the infrared heater is slightly better at heating than other electric units. Worth the cost? As for cost compared to different furnace fuel types I think it depends on how high that fuel cost is. IN our area (Michigan) Natural gas costs less per btu than any electric method of heating. Zone heating is the only way these units can save money in our area. Turn down the thermostat and heat only where you spend the most time.
I never knew and still dont believe that coiled heaters burn oxygen, this is an advertising error! Consuming oxygen is part of a chemical reaction, if electric coils were being consumed electric coils would need to be replaced monthly and they are not.
Make sure you read all the reviews of the Edenpure heater before making a purchasing decision. It appears to me that Edenpure and other quartz infrared heater manufacturers have quite a few bugs to work out before I consider buying an Edenpure heater.
Just subscribed to consumer reports so I could check out the low down on infrared heaters. Boy am I glad I did as I was leaning towards the Edenpure. Never in a million years!!! Thank you consumers for sharing your experiences.
Hello
Boy, if we had read all the negative comments about the Eden Pure Heater, I know we would never have bought it but we did. Got the lage unit last August to try and improve the temp in our basement which is always chilly especially in summer when the furnace is off. The basement is finished and is 26'x 20' with a 14 x 14 bedroom off that. We placed the heater down there and it has ran ever sinc. It has improved room tempature to the point where it is comfortable and the floor is not as cold as before. Our house is well insulated and is heated by a electric forced air furnace which does a really good job but even though the basement has heat ducts, it would always get cold in basement because the furnace does not run enough having warmed the upstairs to set tempature and shut off,&stay off for long periods due to the insulation and energy efficent windows we had installed as well. Thus far the Eden Pure is doing a good job in the basement on its own and especially since the furnace has been on this winter to do its part. I don't know that I would want to rely on it as the only heatand have not tryed it in a smaller area by itself. It has accomplished what we wanted it to do which is take the chill out of the basement year round. The air feels warmer and the dehumidifer we have down there takes twice as long to fill as before. I can not say what it would be as a sole means of heat as we have not used it this way but in the early and late fall before the furnace started coming on,it seemed to do all right as it had all summer. It has not increased out electric bill any alarming amout which to us would be noticeable with an all electric house. We live in Manitoba and do get some periods of -temps in the winter. It is Dec 27 and it is around 25 degrees today and the basement is comfortable and the main furnace hasn't kicked in since early this morning. I thinkit depends on what you want to use it for. I certainly hope it works longer than what some people have reported here and as ours has not been shut off at all since we got it, it has ran 6 months non stop now. This is not an endorsement for the product, just the experience we have had thus far.

Interesting comments. I am reminded of when this product first came out several years sgo I did some research and came to the conclusion that the performance was overstated at best. There was also at the time the perception that comment ares such as this one were flooded with glowing reports from satisfied users. After hearing of this I payed closer attention and noticed that the same people and/or the same claims (under different names)appeared all over the web. I'm not buying into the claims nor the product itself.
I purchased an ihome infrared heater back in Nov. to save money on my heating bills. The promise was that the unit "saves up to 50%" on heating costs. Also, that it costs just pennies a day to operate.
My electric bill just arrived and it's $150 more than normal. Yikes! The company was very rude and patronized me.
I have NOT purchased an Eden Pure, Amish, or any of the other heaters discussed in this forum. There would be no point since I live in a house equipped with electric heat with a thermostat in every room. Electricity is the most expensive way, of the common systems (oil, gas, coal, wood), to heat a house. Believe me, I have the electric bills to prove it!
It is really a pity to read these comments about cost savings and all the gyrations people are going thru to try and save money using these space heaters that make heat with the most expensive home heating "fuel" you can buy - electricity.
It really points to the failure of our American science education system. I suggest everybody take a deep breath and reread the 9th grade science book chapter about Conservation of Energy. Then read the chapter in the 10th grade book about Electric Resistance Heating (the conversion of electricity to heat using resistance elements - which is exactly what each and every one of these "miracle" heaters is). Electricity-to-heat conversion is ALWAYS 100% efficient, there is NOTHING you can do in the design of a an electric resistance heater to make it any less than (or more than) 100% efficient. PERIOD. This is a Fact of Science proven over 150 years ago by very intelligent men. Are we just slow learners?
The manufacturers' claims that their products will reduce your heating bill by 50% is a total falsehood based on voo-doo science. You will save much more money simply by turning down your thermostat and dressing a little warmer. You may feel nice and snuggly sitting next to your Portable Amish Camp Fire, but realize it will be costing you dearly when the electric bill arrives.
On this point I should also note that many people pay their electric bill on a "budget system" in which the cost of their monthly electricity use is averaged over a complete 12 month year. With this type of billing system you will be hard pressed to identify any increase in the bill which is attributable to your miracle space heater. You may not actually even see the increase on your bill until the end of your budget period when you will be billed for "make-up" costs plus interest. Then the budget amount you will be billed for the entire next year will be increased accordingly, resulting in an INCREASED YEAR-ROUND electric bill! (You will likely not loose any money in the long run, except for interest charges, but you will effectively be prepaying your electric bill in the summer for heat you will be using in the following winter.)
If Consumer Reports has not made this clear in their articles about these electric space heaters, they should as I am sure their engineers know this to be 100% Scientific Fact. If they have, they should re-emphasize it at every opportunity they can.
Well then, how could such a simple thing as trying to save a little money on your heating bill becaome such a complicated problem? You should have paid attention in that 9th grade science class!
WOW!! Thanks for all the great reviews! I came very close to purchasing the EDEN PURE 1000 to try to reduce my father's very expensive heating bills, especially after seeing Bob Vila's recommendation and the promise to pay for return shipping after 60 days. My father's 1950's home is very poorly insulated and the windows are single pane. His inefficient forced hot aair furnace seems to be using not only excess gas but lots of electricity as well. I have baseboard heater run by a gas furnace and my last electric bill was $80 and his was $225 and we are home all day with lights and TV's/ radios on.
I am looking into various rebate programs but there are long waiting lists and the costs for replacement windows is very high. New York State does not have a great weatherizaion program like the one my cousin took advantage of in Ma. that paid for 75% of the blown in insulation in her older home.
I purchased a DeLonghie Safeheat a couple of years ago for about $129.00. I believe that it is infared but not sure? I just checked and it is made in China too. I use it mostly to heat my bathroom before I shower or my office which are both over my garage rather than raise the thermostat that heats 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms; How I wish I had more zones. Occassionly, I'll close my 15 X 12 bedroom door and it heats very well. I have not paid a lot of attention to my electric bills but before I bought it I recall that it would cost about $.10/hr.
I do plan to check out the Portable Furnace and the Comfort Furnace but a previous post stated that one of them was the same unit as the Eden Pure? In the meantime, I'm open to any suggestions, as I feel I must do something as the coldest months and highest bills are approaching.
Bob Vila . . . You should be ashamed to associate yourself with this crap.
I was so close to buying one of these units, I am so glad I came to this site. I guess the old adage "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is" is still in effect for this product for sure.
I purchased the Edenpure Gen 3 1000 Dec 23 2009. So far have had a run in with the dealer it has failed to heat up one room of my house and it is around 300 sq feet. The case cracked how i don't know. Edenpure says the case is warrented the dealer states it is damage and not warrantable. They are supposed to be taking my heater to the nearest service center at the end of the week i should know something.
When I called Edenpure's warranty service they told me it is up to the dealer to have the unit serviced not me, I emailed Edenpure and complained and haven't heard anything. If this thing comes back as a piece of junk I'm thinking of contacting the FTC Federal Trade Commission and filing a complaint.
I informed the dealer that a friend's son easily heats a 400 square foot basement with one of those oil filled radiator looking heaters that cost $70 from Walmart; and that a $400. heater should be doing more than that other customers heard my remarks so hopefully I saved others from the Edenpure fate of lies, and poor customer service
Thanks for listening
Lois
Thanks to all of your for your comments on this product. I saw the infomercial for the first time this morning and was interested. We all want to cut our heating costs! I thought, maybe this is a good thing since Bob Vila was endorsing it--even though it appeared that he was reading a script during the commercial.
I research just about everything before I buy. Especially items that I consider high dollar items. I'm glad I did because I sure won't be buying this device. I've noted through the comments and even in the commerical that the majority of people who may have seen a cost reduction were those who had oil or propane heating units in their homes. I have electric and a wood stove to supplement so I don't think I would benefit at all.
Thanks again to everyone for their input.
thanks everyone for the heads up about the EDENPURE, It seemed a little sketchy after seeing it being presented by BOB VILA and the good ole AS SEEN ON TV logo. Mind is made up now I'll save the $500 and just use the electric
I would take these complaints with a grain of salt. An unhappy customer will vent/go nuts over how terrible their item is. A happy customer has no reason to come on to these boards. So for every complaint you read here there are probably 20 people that are satisfied. I'm not saying the EP heater is good or not - I really wish I could check one out to see the oil vs. electric savings.
I bought my EdenPure and it lasted one season and now it's Jan of second season and it won't turn on!!! Junk just plain JUNK with lots of advertising. Why Bob Villa would put is name on it? MONEY edenPURE and SIMPLE This heater has run less then 50 hours then RIP. Don't waste your money. Bob Villa you should be ashamed of yourself.
Well, quite a lot of comments about this product. Well the negative comments about this product has saved me $400.
Thank you all...especially Kris from Indiana DEC 11, 2009.
If only people researched what a quack Bob Vila is. They wouldn't follow his paid advice.
It's an oversized hunk of junk with a simple ceramic heater that's been around for years. All these idiots did is put it inside something that looks like it's technical. Fact is that it's a basic $20.00 to $50.00 ceramic heater inside a technologically devoid container. I can't believe people are so stupid.
All space Heaters that use 1500 watts of energy produce about 5200 btu's period. It does not matter if they are oil filled, electric coils or quartz. For them to produce more btu's then this they must have some type of heat pump to do so. I would look at saftey features and cost when buying a electric heater.
Rippoffs! And they carry a wonderful NO REFUND POLICY! GO to Walmart, buy ANY 50 dollar heater! AVOID THESE SCAMMING CROOKS!
They stole 379.00 dollars from me!
Scam a $15.00 walmart heater has same output. But people are stupid and they have a great sales pitch. Law allows only so many amps or watts on a wall plug. But if you really want to pays hundreds more for the same heat go for it. Stupid
About the idea that an electric heater can save on your heating bills - sure they can. Two ways.
1) Portable electric heaters only heat the space you need. Other rooms can stay cool.
2) If you have gas heat, adding electric heat IS more efficient. Most utilities charge for energy on a tiered rate - the more you use the more it costs. If you split your heating bill between gas and electric, you can avoid getting into the higher energy cost tiers.
I bought one of these pieces of junk. My electric bill doubled, house was still cold, can sit on the unit and not get warm. I'm using a small space heater for 1/3 of what it cost me to run the iHeater for one month and much happier with results!!! Don't waste your money on this product. After reading the horror stories of the return, going to try to go to my credit card company, to get this charge off as a credit!! Wish me luck!! By the way, it sits, unplugged, in the basement. Heck of a price to pay for a paper weight!!
At the end of November of 2009 my mother in law bought us a Brand new EdenPure for our home. We thought it would be a GREAT heating source in our home since gas is high. As soon as we had plugged it in our home and stared using it , it has been bad news ever since.
Our gas bill went up from $42 dollars in November to $181 dollars in December. Even having our central heat set at 65 degrees. And on top of that our electric bill went from $$133 dollars in October and $185 in November to NOW $272 dollars in December.
I JUST DON’T SEE THE SAVINGS ANYWHERE! Yes, our house is drafty but last year at this time in December our electric bill was only $159 dollars.
I just don’t think it’s worth keeping and I will be sure to tell my friends and family NOT to buy a EdenPure. This product that my mother in law bought for us for Christmas was a waste of money that she paid over $200 dollars for and the sad thing is, she also bought two more for her other two children.
I recommend that this item that I like to call, JUNK, should not be bought! Its a wast of your money!
i was ready to order a heater from edenpure. after reading the comments posted no way,
The rule of electric heat doesn't change.
1KW = 3412 BTU/Hr
An electric space heater is an electric space heater.
I purchased the Endenpure Quartz portable heater 2008 so this is my second year of use. I think the heater heats very well but, I cant get anyone to tell me why it is so noisey? It drives me crazy because it is so very loud. I called and talked to someone
last year when I bought it, then there was place in Liverpool N.Y.
not far from where I live so I took it to them and they basically
told me that was the way it was. Not getting any satisfaction especially for something I paid so much money for. I finally this
year could not take the loudness anymore and had to buy yet another infra heater. But this time I bought an Oreck brand that is not loud and works wonderful. It seems whenever I buy a product that has something wrong with it I get no satisfaction to the problem. So I think its because I am I woman and maybe I am brushed off. Too bad..
I got a couple of inexpensive ($20) yet well built space heaters at Wal-Mart. They work great. I figure 1500 watts of electricity basically becomes 1500 watts of heat no matter what you're using.
I am very disappointed with the EdenPure Quartz Infrared Portable Heater. I bought the EdenPure heater model 1000 and had to return it in three days because it stopped working. I was happy with the return agreement, but nearly a year later the replacement heater stopped putting out heat and sometimes stopped altogether. I was a happy with the heater while it worked, but I am very hesitant to buy the "new' EdenPure Gen 3 Quartz Infrared Portable Heater. Nearly four-hundred dollars is too much money to pay for a heater that has lasted so short a time for so many. If the company does not replace this heater, it was a rip off, and I got sucked in by their very convincing advertisement.
ALL of these expensive heaters are snake oil!
They are praying on people who don't understand electrical
laws.
There is no free lunch and you CAN'T get around Ohm's Law!
ALL 1500 watt space heaters produce about 5100 BTUs
I can EASILY match the performance of ANY of these snake oil heaters with my 20 year old $20 dollar cube heater!
As P T Barnum said "There's a sucker born every minute!
We recently purchased a Eden Pure 1000 about 20 days ago. SO far we are freezing in our bedroom. There is no heat except this heater in the bedroom, and it leaves our room very cold. Is it not working properly or is this just how the heaters perform? You have to sit directly in front of heater to feel any warmth and that is still the same after 12hours of running the EdenPure heater. I am not happy at all, I want to be warm not freezing.
My wife and I purchaced a Edenpure 1000 4 years ago for around $450.
It would not work this year and when I go to Edenpures website for technical assistance I see that the elements are good for 3 to 5 years.
3 to 5 years?
You can go to walmart and buy one of them liquid filled electric radiators for a fraction of the price and still come out ahead even after the difference you supposedly would save on your electric bill.
So where was my savings?
Not worth the money folks.
Only thing good for when they die is the large assortment of sheet metal screws and the 4 casters on the bottom.
I have a Eden Pure Quartz Infrared Portable Heater. The entilre front has melted. It now works on and off. I ave ahd it for one winter. I think it is a waste of money and could possibly lead to a fire. I doubt there is any compensation or garantee as promoted. I can't seem to get a hold of anyone so far on teh phone. This is not a relaible product as promoted. Byers beware!
The Eden Pure heater and other quartz-type heaters advertise heavily in the area of north Alabama where I live. There are many under-educated people in this area who are taken in by the snake oil claims of Eden Pure and the others. Fortunately, I did not just fall off the turnip truck and thus am able to see through the balleyhoo-infested claims of these profiteering scalawags. The silly, preposterous story of how some tinkerer allegedly named John Jones serendipitously discovered that "cured copper" would hold heat for a prodigiously long time is just one example of the hype and tripe peddled by these conscienceless profiteers and their confederates in deception, the late Paul Harvey and the still living and shamefully-shilling Bob Vila. I say a pox on the entire lot of them. My very ordinary $25.00 electric space heater (1500/750-watt unit with thermostat and fan)produces exactly as much heat as the Eden Pure and has proven to be safe, durable and trouble-free. Why should I or anyone spend 16 times that amount for some kind of dressed-up, hyped up heater that will do no more than the inexpensive and high-performing one I use?
We bought an Eden Pure heater in October of last year. We bought it for the basement but did not heat up like we would of liked. We brought it in the living room and it does heat it up fairly well. The question I have is since we moved it, my windows have a black film on them only in the room with the heater. Has anyone else had that problem?
we purchased an Eden Pure GEN3 Model 1000 Dec14/09 on the reccomendation in Bob Vilas flyer that came in the mail..That was the first mistake by reading Bob vila's blurp..The Bio Tech company is really smart because there 60 day return policy is a big farce as when your hydro meter is only read every 60 days and you get your very high hydro bill it is too late to return the heater...I guess this is smart business on there part to screw the hard working person out of there money..What little I saved on gas heat cost me three times as much in hydro..So you show me the 50% saving we are supose to get.
I am very disappointed in Bob Vila but he must be getting a big kick back from Eden Pure at all our expense.
BUYER BE VERY AWARE
In general I agree with most of the comments on heaters. My take on Edenpure and so many others is that their heat transfer is dismal. All Edenpure models use a fan unit with 105 CFM. Any larger of a fan and it would cool those light bulbs off and produce little or no heat transfer. Next time you are in the market for a heater ask the company what their delta T is on heat output, CFM of the fan, and what their air changes per hour might be. They will be extremely confused and give their standard we heat 500 to 1,000 square feet. If you do as one gent said in this blog and buy based on BTU, then buy a 1600 watt hair dryer, plug it in and see how much heat transfer you will achieve.
Just unpacked my GEN 3 Model 1000 EdenPURE heater, had a friend order it for me, NOW I go online and read these reviews, just spent $445 and now what?...Just hope the darn thing works! there is a sucker born every minute I was told
A real piece of junk. Worked pretty good the first winter but towards spring quit. The same thing everybody else says. Quits after about 5 minutes. You are told to unplug it and wait 30 minutes, blah, blah, blah. I didn't buy a heater to sit around and unplug it and plug it in for a crumby 5 minutes. The part that really bothers me, is the first winter when it was actually working I recommended it to a person and they bought 2. Now I hate to face them!! Hopefully they got good ones. I'm afraid to bring the subject up every time I see them!!! Sure I could box it up and send it off for repair, but again, that's not what I buy a product for, to spend more money and time on it. Take some advice: DO NOT BUY AN EDEN PURE!!! Thank goodness I have a pellet stove or we would have been in a jam!! COLD jam. I am absolutely disgusted with this product. Them and their stupid coupons and sales gimmicks. I too hope there is a class action suit someday.
I too bought an EdenPure for $400. I used it every night in the master bedroom for 4 months, then it started blowing only cold air. Now, it blows hot for the first 4 to 5 minutes, then only cold air. Considering the problems and expense others have had with trying to return one or get it repaired, I guess I'll just cover it with a cloth and use it as an end table and kiss my $400 goodbye.
BTW, I also have had a Lakewood Oil Filled heater for years and it works great. Guess I'll stick with it.
electric heat costs the same to produce no matter what kind of electric heater you use. some may distribute heat better, a slight advantage. this heater will save you money only if you decrease where you usually set your thermostat when you run the heater. this will make a comfort change in the other areas of your home where the electric heater is not running, meaning those areas will be colder. if you simply leave your thermostat where it's usually set and run the heater to be more comfortable in a certain room, you will likely spend more in total to heat your home as electric heat is ofter more expensive than other types of heating fuel.
to save money with this heater you will need to make a significant comfort lifestyle change in your home.
After reading some reviews,I am not sure if I want to buy the eden pure heater.I have a very large bedroom and I am looking for a good heater which will keep the room temperature at good level and not get the room cold later during the night. The eden pure is pricey though and how long is it supposed to last? The consumer report does not recommend it. Can you provide any references?
first off if you have to plug it in it is going to cost you money
second the average on these working well for all is low
some comments posted are from the people in the factory
it is electric and depending where you live and the cost of per company is another factor
we live in upstate ny and one supplier is very high AND ALWAYS WINS A RATE INCREASE EARLY NO MATTER WHAT THE PEOPLE SAY HERE
THE PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION WORKS FOR THEM AND OUR RECORDS HERE SHOW THAT THEY DONT HAVE THE INTEREST OF THE PEOPLE HERE SO
if you cant afford to plug it in DO NOT BUY be prepared sweats sweat shirts long sleeve shirts heavey socks and plenty of blankets in your living room
yeah this is america and it supposed to be a rich country ..but that is only for the rich and hollywood people
this country and the people are in serious trouble ...wake up
Just got my edenpure, gen 4, 1500 watt. Before I even opened the box I was inclined to send it back because it was made in China. I'll be fair and give it a chance.
I used my mine anywhere from med to high off n on and it sent my electric bill up from $50, to almost $400, I complained they sent me another one, my daughter used it for a month in August which is not that cold, she kives in a trailer and her electric bill went to $66,00 its not even winter, Are there ant lawsuits out there for this ripoff, please let me know thats just crazy.
If you are out of warranty and having problems w/ your heater.. give this toll-free# a call.they can help with getting and ordering the correct part.. along with instructing over the phone on installing new parts.. 888-499-8656 opt.3
Dont buy an Eden Pure. I am on my third unit. I have had to send everyone back due to failure within less than six months. The third one failed again so I decided to see if I could repair it instead of getting stung with another $25. shipping fee. When I dismantled it, I discovered that the wire to the infra red tubes had melted due to the fact that it only had two light tubes in it instead of three that the Gen 2 was supposed to have. It was a defective unit that should not have gone into the field and could have burnt my home down. I have talked to agents and sent letters to so called customer service dept heads(we demand 100% satisfaction from our customers) and none of them will accept responsibilty and send the correct repair kit. They all have used the out of waranty now excuse and want me to spend more money.
I intend to file a complaint with consumer protection agency.

Bought a unit and used it for a season. Had to return it for repairs. Ran it for a season and now it is on the fritz again. Not worth the money. Insides are cheaply made, you would think that for the price you pay, they would make something that would last longer than a year.
Has anyone used a HeatSmart Infrared Space Heater? I'm looking to buy one locally but would love to see some reviews. Thanks!
My neighbor called and said he was tired if his "Magic" propane heater. When he first bought it all I heard was how it was so much more efficient than any other way to heat.... had special radiant ceramic plate... Looks exactly like one I remember from the 1950s which was very old then./didn't say anything though; he'd already paid $1900 for a space heater. Anyway after the local Hank Hill came and topped off his 300 gallon outside bottle he whined a bit, a few months later when it was refilled again he flipped out. For seasons he's bought every weather seal trick on the market cause he believes it's his fault.
He called last night.... Now it's Edenpure, Apparently it's some sort of "magic" portable electric heater. I said it's just a space heater, 30 bucks at Walmart.. Oh NO! new technology "infrared" "Heats a thousand square feet for 9 cents a month"
I did the calculation based on 10.5 cents per kilowatt, about 9 cents per square foot per month. 9,000 cents per month... Moral of the story is "don't inbreed" 43 percent of people are stupid and the Democrats know it.
AFTER READING NAGATIVE AND POSTIVE BLOGS ON EDEN HEATERS THE NEGITIVE IS LEADING 100% I WOULD NOT BUY AND LIKE TO SEE ADVERTISMENT OFF THE MARKET."WHERE DID TRUTH AND HONEST GO?" PAUL @ HYPERCON.NET
I saw an ad on TV tonight about this EdenPure heater. Advertised by all these well know people we all know. I was interested in purchasing at least 2 of them to help with the energy costs this winter until I came upon this site. Im glad I did. With the price associated with the heaters and the short time they seem to work and the lack of sevice availiable, and with the lack of savings they claim, I have decided against buying them. Thanks to this site I just saved a lot of money unlike some of the posters here.
I have all the comments about Eden Pure both good and bad from 2008. Has anyone bought ans tested one for 2010?
