In another sign of tough economic times, U.S. consumers have given up luxe loins and fancy filets (a beef tenderloin is shown) in favor of budget-friendlier cuts, reports Bloomberg.com. "We're seeing more shifts in the meat category to cheaper meats—ground beef and chicken—than we saw earlier in the year," said Steven Burd, chairman of the Safeway supermarket chain.
No matter the meat you buy, you can keep it fresher by removing the store packaging and rewrapping the food in new plastic wrap. Poultry and ground beef will last one to two days in the refrigerator. Use freezer bags for longer storage, although if you freeze a lot of food you might want to invest in a vacuum sealer, which our testers have found effective at preserving flavor and preventing ice crystals. And as you'll read in this recent post, slow cookers can save you time and money.

How about a review on vacuum sealers???
Yeah, I'd also like a review on vacuum sealers!!!
I came here specifically looking for reviews on vacuum sealers too
I hope someone from Consumer Reports is looking at these comments because I want a Vaccuum Sealer Review also. I want to purchase one for a Christmas present and possibly for myself but want to buy a GOOD, reliable one. Please, CR...help.
I agree with the above - please do a review of vacuum sealers, including handheld. I purchased the Reynolds Handi-Vac and love it, but they no longer make the bags. The only bags I can find for it are made by Debbie Meyer, are only available from HSN, are very expensive, and only about 1 out of 4 (25%) hold a seal. I wouldn't mind the price as much *if they worked*! There has *got* to be something better on the market!!
Thanks!
Yes please make a review on vacuum sealers
Also looking for a review on vacuum sealers. Do I need all of the bells and whistles? Help!
Along with everyone else, I'm also looking for a review on food sealers. Help????
How many of us have to ask before CR does a review on vacuum sealers. As long as they've been on the market, I'm surprised we have to ask.
Waiting...for a vacuum sealer review...Any idea when this will happen? I need it...yesterday! ; )
I Can't Believe There Were No Reviews On Food Sealers. I Agree With Bette Brooks. How Many Of Us Does It Take To Get Reviews Done On These Products?
I am very disapointed in CR the latest information I found on sealing was from 2008. You would think with all the items out there that you would have had a more recient addition. I have had more personal experience than you make avaiable. I bought one of the original Fresh Saver sealers and still have it. I use it for a back up because the last 2 Rival and Seal A Meal
I purchased quit. But the bigest problem is the bags that you take off the roll and make yourself don't stay sealed. Food saver bags are the only I have been able to find. Made in China of course.
Please review vacuum sealers. They can get expensive and I want to buy the right one the first time.
I, too, have been searching for a review of vacuum food sealers. I couldn't believe CR hasn't done one. Get on the ball, folk, Christmas is right around the corner.
I'm with everyone else. I came here to find a review! HELP
Its to bad that CR is not the best source for information and when we look its not available on the food vacuum systems, thats what I pay for. Maybe I will not renew my subscribtion.
