The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada yesterday announced the recall of about 113,000 Fiesta Gas Grills' Blue Ember gas grills. The hose on the gas tank can get to close to the grill's firebox, which poses a fire hazard.
In the U.S., the recall involves models FG50045, FG50057, and FG50069; in Canada, models C1072-30744 and C1072-30754 are part of the recall. Read the recall notice on the CPSC site for the specific serial numbers being recalled.
If you own an affected grill, stop using it immediately and contact Fiesta to obtain a free replacement grease-pan assembly and instructions for installing the pan and the gas tank. For more information, call 866-740-7849 (8 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday) or send an e-mail to mnorman@fiestagasgrills.com.

This is the best blog I have ever read thank you!
I own one of the recalled grills and had a major fire when the rubber gas hose melted allowing propane to catch fire. I managed to turn off the gas and extinguish the flames before it did major damage. What a mess. This happened during the third time I used the grill.
I replaced the rubber hose with a copper line and brass fittings to solve the problem.
I have a Blue Ember grill, and while I love its cooking ability, I'm disappointed to see a second recall. Without CR's web site, I would never have known about the defects in the grill. I had a gas hose that was melted and crimped due to misassembly that I discovered this spring thanks to CR. What's shocking to me is that Fiesta knows I'm a grill owner, and yet I learned about both recalls by chance on this web site. I purchased a rotisserie motor from them a year ago, and they just replaced my gas line as part of the first recall... where's the letter in the mail telling me about the grease pan recall?
I purchased this grill in 1/08 based on a lot of research and CR recommendation. I have loved the grill and have received both recall notices from Fiesta. The grease pan was a bad design but I just received a new grease pan made from heavy stainless steel free of charge and a new gas hose after calling Fiesta. I've read about the fires and wonder did most of these victims have their grill assembled at the store they purchased from? This is a great grill and I've had no problems with customer support from Fiesta.
Our Blue Ember went up in flames last week. My husband cooked dinner, shut off the grill and closed the gas line, we sat down to have dinner and then my 6-yo son spotted the fire! We are extremely lucky that our house didn't catch and that none of us were injured. We are so thankful for a responsive fire department because the fire was too large for us to handle by the time we spotted it.
We bought our Blue Ember Fiesta at Home Depot and had them put it together for us. We heard nothing about the recall. On a whim a few days after we cleared away the charred grill, shattered table and melted chair, I searched the internet and discovered the recall.
We are now waiting to resolve the issues/damage with Fiesta/Blue Ember's insurance company. They seem to be having some trouble locating a local adjustor. The company is bothered that we cleaned it up before their adjustor could look at it but I couldn't leave the hazardous materials--melted plastic, glass, sharp metal, etc.--laying around indefinitely. We took lots of pictures.
Hopefully we will see some movement and a quick resolution so we can close out the summer with a few more BBQ's.
I thought that I would have to buy a new pan. Untill i found this site and found out that it was a recall item.. Thank you very much cr. But I will say that I did not have any problems getting it replaced with customer service...
What I am most disturbed is that HOME DEPOT did not post anything about the recalls in the store. I recently noticed a problem with the grease assembly and regulator/hose assembly, so I happened to go to Home Depot for parts. It was only when they didn't have them that I checked the internet and found the recall. Don't get me wrong, the grill is great, but once again Home Depot let me down.
