Cash for clunkers for appliances update: States still waiting for go-ahead from Dept. of Energy
December 1, 2009 9:26 AM

Approve Cash for Clunkers for AppliancesNovember 30 was the target date for the U.S. Department of Energy to begin doling out funding for its $300 million State Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Program, otherwise known as cash for clunkers for appliances.

That deadline came and went yesterday with nary a penny awarded, but according to retailers, an appliance-industry trade group, and state energy-office representatives we spoke with yesterday, the DOE will approve the plans for all 50 states (and six U.S. territories) in batches this week, with most likely to get the thumbs-up in the coming weeks.

As the details emerge, we will update our existing cash-for-clunkers FAQ and keep you posted on the key news, including where to look for specifics on the appliance-rebate program in your state.—Daniel DiClerico | | Twitter | Forums | Facebook
