2010 International Builders' Show Product Preview: Jenn-Air JX3 Downdraft Ventilation System cooktops
January 20, 2010 12:01 AM
Jenn Air Duct free Downdraft Cooktop JGD3536WSThe Jenn-Air cooktops that use the manufacturer's new JX3 Downdraft Ventilation System don't require ducting for venting, an industry first, claims Jenn-Air. The JX3 system is ideal in situations where you can't run ductwork or vent to the outside or if you don't want to add the cost of ductwork to your kitchen-remodeling budget. This duct-free ventilation system also allows you to place the cooktop on an island or peninsula or other spots without installation constraints.

Jenn-Air says the three-speed JX3 ventilation system, which is installed in a cabinet under the cooktop, uses a powerful high-airflow particulate-air (HAPA) filter to capture cooking smoke, steam, and grease.

The ventilation system, a $200 add-on, is available on a number of 30- and 36-inch gas and electric models. The 30-inch JGD3430 and 36-inch JGD3536 (shown) gas cooktops, for instance, feature a 17,000-Btu high-output burner and continuous cast-iron grates and are available in stainless steel. The 30-inch JED4430 and 36-inch JED3536 electric-radiant cooktops come in a stainless-steel, black or white floating glass, or oiled-bronze finish. The cooktops cost $1,800 to $2,400.

We are replacing our 23 year old gas cooktop and require a downdraft vent. Has anyone had experience with the Jenn-Air JX3?

Installing it right now. It seems fine except their installation directions are missing how to secure it to the counter. There are no clips or places to put clips.

I have a frigidair cook top and stove model CGLES385FB4 just caught on fire. The convection motor melted. Anyone have any advise? I have the manuel but no reciept as I purchased with the house. Do you think they will honour warranty?

I would like to purchase something like the Jenn-Air JX3 with downdraft vent does anyone know if there is something out there like a cooktop with stove that has a down draft?

Thanks

I have a Jenn air downdraft, glass top gas range with convection oven. I love it! The one and only draw back is that you loose a lot of heat around the pots. I am moving so I need to buy a new stove. I would like to try a induction but would like to stay with Jenn air and down draft. Is there one on the market?

I have a 34" jennair Essentials downdraft cooktop and looking to buy a new one. They only reason I am replacing is because I'm changing color. I love the larger grates, It is 14 years old and and works great! This year was they only time I had a repair and that was a new fan switch. Still looks good after all these years. I love it and would not be replacing if I wasn't changing my colors.

I am remodeling my kitchen and am considering a downdraft gas range. I was told by someone that the draft pulls the flame towards the vent and causes uneven heating, and was strongly advised not to buy this type of range. None of the builders I questioned had ever heard of this. My other option is to go with a chimney vent. Has anyone had a similar problem with the downdraft gas range?
