Such demand may explain why Florida is requiring residents to reserve rebates for the sizable 20 percent givebacks through its $17,585,466 Energy Star Appliance Rebate Program, which runs April 16-25. "We don't want a lot of disappointed people," program manager Brenda Buchan told The Palm Beach Post.
Several other states, including Pennsylvania and Texas, are also requiring reservations, perhaps a sign that there's pent-up demand for appliances among consumers. Indeed, based on the latest Consumer Reports Index, the major-appliances category was one of only two where consumers spent more in February.

I have a subscription to Shop Smart Magazine published by Consumer Reports. Does this allow me to check out the information on CS's internet site? Hope so; as a retired person I have just had to purchase a new freezer and separate refrigerator from Sears. While I chose the best for my situation, always desire to see all my choices and the stores never show you this. One of my dislikes is Sears has a one year warranty for parts only. Then they try to sell you a three year protection for $129 or five years for $199.
I consider this cheating. However, since I live near Page AZ there isn't a lot of choice as the best shopping choices are three hours away in Prescott AZ or St. George Utah. The delivery price is now downright scary!
I have a maintaince agreement on a Whirlpool refrigerator and the repair was more than the agreement and K mart- Sears would not give me replacement but instead spent about 900 to repair the 12 year old refrigerator. It works like a charm now but since K mart and sears combined the customer service is LOUSY.
