Late-winter storm delivers another blow to Northeast
Mar 15, 2010 12:57 PM

In the aftermath of this weekend's nor'easter—which some have likened to a hurricane without a name—many Consumer Reports staffers are pumping out their basements, dealing with fallen trees, and waiting for the power to come back on. And according to the local news in and around New York City, they're not alone in having to deal with poststorm cleanup.

As we've noted in a few earlier storm-related posts—on a couple of times this winter, it's key that you know how to safely use a chain saw and properly operate a backup generator.

And if your home is prone to flooding, you might want to consider installing sump pumps or a drainage system or at the very least getting yourself a wet/dry vacuum. (Better yet, keep the water out of your basement and other areas.) And use a dehumidifier to control moisture levels inside your home.
