If you need a new air conditioner and are planning to take advantage of the $300 million State Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Program, also called cash for appliances or cash for clunkers for appliances, use the advice below and follow our updates at Twitter.com/CRHomegarden.States offering rebates for air conditioners: Rebates on room air conditioners are available in 26 of 56 states and U.S. territories, roughly half of which are also offering rebates on central air conditioners. Use our interactive map to find a link to the cash for appliances Web site in your state.
Rebate amounts: Rebates vary by state. Residents in Connecticut will get back $50 on a room air conditioner and $500 on a central air conditioner, while Floridians will receive a flat 20 percent rebate on room air conditioners only, plus an additional $75 if they recycle their old unit.
Buying advice: See our free buyer's guide to air conditioners for details on finding the right model for your home.
Models to consider: The following Energy Star-qualified room air conditioners (listed in alphabetical order) earned solid marks in our tests, which measure not only temperature control but also noise, ease of use, and a unit's ability to run and restart during a brownout. It helps me a lot to choose which is better from mini air conditioner, this blog guide me well, thanks!
I'm disappointed. I paid the 19$ to join to get recommendations for a ductless split system. You only tested three and the one I picked turned out not to even have a heat pump - it was air only/
Didn't you test any of those? And it is so hard to find out which are elligible for the rebate now. I paid money for nothing
I'm very disappointed!! I paid to join specifically for assistance in deciding on a new central a/c unit. And I found ZERO reviews for central a/c......plenty for window units though. A central a/c unit is a very expensive purchase and I mistakenly thought I could rely on Consumer Reports for assistance with this decision. MY MISTAKE!!!
