Number of refrigerators and washers, respectively, that the California Energy Commission added yesterday to the list of models eligible for cash for appliances rebates, bringing the total to more than 100 refrigerators and 250 washing machines; 300 room air conditioners are also eligible for a rebate. Last week we reported that the $35 million California Cash for Appliances rebate program got off to a sluggish start, due in part to a decision by the California Energy Commission to use tougher eligibility requirements for refrigerators and washing machines. As a result, retailers were having trouble stocking qualifying models. The four-week-old California Cash for Appliances program still has almost $25.9 million in cash remaining for rebates.
In other cash for appliances news, Hawaii (Hawaii Energy Efficiency Program and Kauai Island Utility Cooperative) and Montana will launch their rebate programs next week. We'll report on the details of those programs tomorrow.
