Cash for appliances: Dishwasher rebates popular in the West
August 25, 2010 12:00 PM
Blog_dishwasher Attempts by California and Washington to reinvigorate their cash for appliance programs by offering rebates on more popular appliances like dishwashers are showing signs of success. In the Golden State, the rebate pool has shrunk to $16 million from $20 million available when the program was expanded on July 29. “Originally, our rebates were split 50-50 between refrigerators and washing machines, with a few air conditioners thrown in” says Amy Morgan, a spokeswoman for the California Energy Commission. “But we’re now seeing more of the new $100 rebates for dishwashers in the mix.”

Four of the 11 dishwashers eligible for rebates in California have been rated by Consumer Reports. The least-expensive tested model is the $500 Frigidaire Gallery FGHD2433K[F]. You can use our product comparison feature on the Ratings chart to see how it matches up in features and performance with the LG LDF6920[WW], $700, Maytag MDB8959AW[W], $750, and LG Steam LDF7932[ST], $1,000.

In Washington state, the $75 dishwasher rebate has joined the $750 rebate for ductless heat pumps as the most popular, according to the program’s manger, Rebecca Stillings. Expanded in mid-August, the program now includes more than 250 models of eligible dishwashers. We’ve rated 22 of them made by Asko, Bosch, Jenn-Air, Kenmore, KitchenAid, LG, Maytag, and Whirlpool. They range in price from the Whirlpool DU1030XTX, $350, to the Asko Encore 3531XXLHD, $1,600. Again, try our product comparison tool to select features.

Our free buyer’s guide to dishwashers can help you decide exactly which features you really need. Cash for appliance rebates are still available in 34 states and territories.
