Ocean Spray has issued a recall of its Craisins Dried Cranberry product after the company discovered certain lots of the dried cranberries may contain "very small hair-like metal fragments."
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, there have been no consumer reports of illness from the metal fibers. And while Ocean Spray and the FDA are confident that the fine metal shavings "are unlikely to cause consumer injury," the company is recalling the dried cranberry food out of caution.
The recall affects 5 ounce, 10 ounce and bulk 48 ounce packages of Ocean Spray Craisins Dried Cranberries with the following label information:
| Craisin package size/UPC code | Best By dates |
|---|---|
| 5 ounce UPC: 00293-000 |

Ocean Spray notes that only Craisins packages with an "M" on its Best By date are affected by this recall.
Consumers who have purchased the contaminated Craisins are urged to discard the dried cranberries, save the UPC label and Best By date and contact Ocean Spray's consumer hotline (800-662-3263) for a coupon to replace the recalled packages.
