Video: Some replacement lightbulbs don't measure up
Jan 13, 2012 5:05 PM
All lightbulbs lose brightness over time, but when you’re replacing 100-watt incandescent bulbs, Consumer Reports latest tests of CFLs and halogen bulbs found that you may sacrifice some brightness to save money.
After 3,000 hours of testing the halogen bulbs remained brighter than the CFLs and about as bright as a 100-watt incandescent. But you’ll only save $3 to $8 on electricity over the halogen bulb’s life, compared with a 100-watt incandescent. The CFL, on the other hand, can save you $100 or more over its life.
