Feb. 24 - A Day To Flip Over Flapjacks
Feb 13, 2009 12:45 PM

Tod's tightwad mug In my constant quest to sniff out a bargain, I've found another date to circle on your calendar: Feb. 24. That's when IHOP will be serving free pancakes to customers who stop in at any of its 1,400 of its restaurants located from coast to coast. There is no minimum purchase requirement.

This is the fourth year in a row that IHOP is celebrating National Pancake Day, according to company spokesman Dan Ischy. Last year, the chain doled out an estimated 1.5 million free flapjacks to hungry customers and, at the same time, raised around $875,000 for children's charities, Ischy said. This year's goal is to raise $1 million. While the pancakes are free, the company is requesting people make a small donation to the Children's Miracle Network or another local charity. But you're not obligated to make a donation.

In a separate deal to emphasize the chain's commitment to value, IHOP has brought back its all-you-can-eat pancake promotion, which runs through Feb. 22. The chain resurrected the popular offer in January as part of its tongue-in-cheek Hungry Consumer Relief Campaign.

"Our guests know they can count on IHOP to always deliver a good value and delicious golden pancakes," said Carolyn O'Keefe, IHOP's senior vice president of marketing. "We believe that unlimited buttermilk pancakes and cups of fresh coffee can help provide the 'stimulus' our economy needs in the New Year."

IHOP's all-you-can-eat offer starts at $4.99 and is available a la carte or as part of a combination meal, which includes two, buttermilk pancakes, eggs, hash browns, and a choice of sausage, bacon or ham. Pancakes are served three at a time until you're stuffed. Note that not all restaurants may be participating in the promotion.
