320,000 Jardine cribs recalled because slats and spindles can break
June 24, 2008 2:43 PM

08312a2 The Consumer Product Safety Commission today recalled 320,000 cribs made by Jardine Enterprises and sold for the past six years at retail and online outlets of Toys 'R' Us properties because the slats and spindles can break leading to entrapment and strangulation hazards. The agency has gotten 42 reports of crib slats and spindles breaking including four in which children became entrapped in the gap created by the broken piece. Two of the children suffered abrasions and bruising.

The recall involves 28 models of Jardine cribs sold under the names Berkley, Hilton, Positano, Spindle and Windsor at Toys 'R' Us, Babies 'R' Us, Geoffrey Stores and KidsWorld from January 2002 to May of this year. The cribs cost between $150 and $300, although one model was priced at $450.

The model numbers include BC-23, BC-36B, BC-36G, BC-36P, BC-007, BC-010, BC-010C, BC-010HP, BC-010W, BC-017, BC-107C, BC-107CR, BC-110C, BC-110HP BC-110W, DA617BC, DA620BC, DV730N, DV730W, DA770BC, DV830-N, DV830-W, 0113B00, 0113K00, 0303C00, 0303G00, 0303B00, 0309K00. They can be found on the inside of the bottom rail of the headboard or footboard.

Parents and caregivers are advised to stop using the cribs immediately and to contact Jardine to receive a full credit toward the purchase of a new crib. Crib owners can contact Jardine at (800) 646-4106 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. ET Monday through Friday and between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. ET Saturday, or visit the firm's Web site at www.jardinecribrecall.com.

We had an entire Jardine bedroom set of furniture for our daughter including lifetime crib, armoire and dresser. After a few months, all of the wood plugs were falling out onto the floor. Not good with a crawling baby. Babies R Us let us return it with NO problems and we bought a Childcraft Set. MUCH better construction and is now being used for our second daughter with ZERO concerns. Jardine is BAD news.

Nice to have the info but it begs the question, how can a baby break a wooden slat? Are the tabs at the end flimsy or is the wood extra weak? You'd think someone would have noticed - for example an independent inspector...

How serious of an issue is this? We have it, and our daughter is a year old. Have any infants died from this? I hate to sound like an unconcerned parent, but the amount we are getting back is a paltry two hundred and change if we return it.

I am an owner of one of the recalled cribs- I contacted the manufacturer immediately and am furious to find out that the process involves me shipping the BOLTS and SCREWS along with the mattress supports to the manufacturer before getting the voucher for a new crib- which is stated to take 1-2 weeks. Where does the manufacturer think my child will sleep in the meantime? This recall is being handled horribly. I can't believe that you can't just return the cribs to Babies R Us for a full refund to get another crib immediately- absolutely ridiculous!

This is good to know this information as we currently own one of the recalled cribs. I have contacted Jardine to start the process of obtaining a voucher that will cover the cost (up to the price of their model) of a new crib, but what isn't indicated here is the extensive process that you have to go through to actually get a new crib in your home. First, they tell you to stop using the crib IMMEDIATELY, so your child now has no place to sleep. Then they will mail you a kit which requires that you disassemble the crib and return to them certain key parts to assure that the crib will not be used by anyone else. Then in 1-2 weeks they will mail you a voucher so you can by a new crib at Babies R Us. Now, this is all well and good, theoretically we will EVENTUALLY get a new crib for our son, but it seems like we will be up to a month of "camping" in a borrowed pack and play until that actually happens! What a nightmare for an already harried household and a great way to upset our 6 month old's fragile sleeping habits!!! Grrrr.

Babies 'r Us will let you buy a new crib and when your coupon comes in they will refund you the money. I asked the same questions since my baby would have no place to stay for the several weeks it would take to get the voucher. If you don't have the money to do this they will make special exceptions with the approval of several managers.

I do think this is absolutely ridiculous. Our recalled crib was bought in May 2005 for our first child. Our second child who is a year old is now using it. We obviously can't return it so long past the time it was purchased. Where is she supposed to sleep while I wait for a month for this stupid voucher? Why can't I just take in the indentifying panel to a Babies R Us? Nice going Jardine.

I think this is ridiculous. As previous people stated you have to take pieces off your current crib and send those pieces in and then you get your voucher after that. I have twins and two recalled beds, this is not a good setting- where are my kids supposed to sleep?

Also the voucher they are giving back is NOT AT ALL going to cover the comparable cribs to the one we have in size, shape, color, and model (since ours is a lifetime). I emailed the company about this and they basically said they dont care and will give no further compensation, so because of this recall I am going to have to pay out of pocket between $50-$100 for each crib...

I am FURIOUS!

I have started the recall process. But here is what frustrates me. They aren't giving me even my purchase price. Beware, Jardine is "low balling" their customers. Yet another kick in teeth! Argh!

I too am having a nightmare trying to get any answers from Jardine. I have a whole Jardine set and the only crib available that will match my set is $100 more than the voucher I will get plus tax and shipping. I have waited for 3 days to get a call back from a manager. It wasn't until I threatened them with a laywer and a call to a NYC tv station that I got to speak to a manager. She promised she would call me back by the end of the day with some answers after a big corporate meeting they were having this afternoon. Do you think I heard back...of course not. All I want is for them to cover the cost of an equal crib to what I have. Why should I have to put out more money for their negligent actions. It's not going to happen. I refuse and will take further action if necessary. Good luck everyone else. I certainly feel your pain!!!

I purchased two of these cribs for two of my grandkids. Now, I am supposed to go through the difficult process of submitting for a voucher. In the meantime, each child will be without a crib during the delay. I ask you, what kind of customer service is this? I consider it non-customer service. Is it not surprising that the US is losing it's manufacturing base as other countries do offer a better customer service program? Remember, without the customer, Jardine has no business. Jardine has really hurt themselves with this recall program and the process of getting new product.

One Angry ex Customer.

I, too, am stuck with a crib for my granddaughter that has been recalled. After reading many of the comments with unhappy customers, I urge you all to contact the office of your state Attorney General and also to contact the TV station that does "Shame on You" which I beleive is Fox News.

Jardine must take responsibility for this problem but I am also disappointed with Babies R Us that "it is not their responsibility."

This is absolutely unsat! I have one of the recalled cribs and when I call to get information, no one seems to have any answers other than to tell me to wait for the voucher to come in the mail... And then what? I have to take apart the old crib, rent a truck, take it back to Babies R Us, buy a new crib, and reassemble it... All the while, paying for a rental truck to buy a crib with a voucher that doesn't cover the cost of a new crib! No thank you! Poor customer service and no help from Babies R Us. I too want to know how serious of a problem this is. I agree with some of the other posts, how can a baby break a wooden spindle? If something were to happen to my daughter, I would feel awful, but I've already purchased one crib (and paid for the rental truck) -- I shoudln't have to do it again!

No problem - I called the recall number listed, spoke to a very nice gentleman that is handling all these recalls. He was not from the company itself or from Toys or BabysRUs. It is just a company handling these recalls. He took the number on my bed and my personal information. In one to two weeks I will receive a package from UPS asking me to return a few of the screws, some braces off the mattress holder, and a sticker - certainly not the whole bed. Once that is received - in another week or two - I will receive a voucher to go buy a new bed. The amount of the voucher will be determined by the bed you have. I was very satisfied with the amount he gave me. Gave me a reference number and said this should all be taken care of in about a month.

I agree with all of the above comments. I sent in the "kit" on July 5th, and called today (the 17th) and they supposedly still have not received it. Load of bull! My toddler is sleeping on a mattress on the ground (we bought the crib that is supposed to convert to a toddler bed). Ridiculous!

I have/had one of the recalled cribs. The day after the recall was announced, I contacted Jardine and gave them my information. Within a week, I received my "pre-paid shipping" envelope to send the crib hardware in. The shipping was only approved for one pound, which the hardware exceeded in weight. So if my UPS guy was going to be picky, I would of been in a fix.
OK, so it's been a few weeks and I have yet to hear anything from Jardine. My daughter is sleeping in her play yard, which is barely an acceptable arrangement. She is very uncomfortable and not sleeping well.
If I do not receive my voucher soon, I will go ahead and purchase another crib so we call all get some rest.

I wanted to turn my 2 yr olds crib into a toddler bed I wrote down the model number to talk to the company about a missing piece I lost during a move and when I searched all this stuff came back about her crib being recalled. I haven’t talked to the company yet but I really concern about having to pay for a new crib if the voucher doesn’t cover one to match her set. I really think you should be able to be reimburse for the whole set any ways I just wanted to know how much are they offering for model number DV730W. If you know please reply, so can I know how much I will have to pay. Thanks

This is what I sent to the CPSC and the BBB. I urge everyone who has had problems with this recall to do the same. If we do not all demand that Babies R' US and Jardine take responsibility they certainly will not.

I wanted to give you a tip about the current Jardine crib recall and how it is being handled by the Jardine Company and Babies R Us. First of all, the current wait time for the voucher is over 3 weeks. One week to get the kit to take apart the crib, and another 2 weeks to process your claim if they don't lose it. The second problem is that the voucher is only redeemable at Babies R Us stores, not online. Babies R Us has pulled most of the cribs that fit in the price range of the voucher, $250, and made them online only purchases. The cribs that are left on the floor are from, you guessed it Jardine, or at least $50 dollars over the voucher ... many are more. So that leaves the consumer with two choices, buying another crib from Jardine, or spending even more money at a Babies R Us store. Consumers are NOT happy. I am currently waiting for my voucher and I am hoping that some pressure can be put on Babies R Us to do the right thing and give consumers a fair trade for their faulty cribs.

I just re-entered my informaiton on line for a voucher on the recalled crib that we purchased just over a year ago. I first went to the website back on June 27th, entered all of the info and have not yet received my package to send back the hardware that will render my daughters bed useless until they send out tha voucher for us to go buy a new crib. What is she supposed to sleep in while we wait for the voucher. I am not at all pleased with the way this recall is being handled, and I am quite discouraged by all of the comments posted here. I just want a safe bed for our daughter to sleep in!!

The day the recall came out I filled out the information on the jardinecribrecall.com website - it's been weeks and I have yet to receive my package to send back the pieces.

I went to Babies r Us and purchased a new crib since the folks at Jardine said I could that and bring back the voucher to BRU. Ugh...I have a feeling I'm going to be out a lot of money.

I filled out the online form to receive the 'recall kit' the very day I was notified of the recall via an email from babies r us. I DID receive my recall kit very quickly and followed the instructions to a T. I took apart the whole ... crib and put in all the hardware but was unable to peel off the registration sticker. I called their 800 number and was told that lots of people have had the same problem and to just take a picture of the sticker and send that. I sent the package in the prepaid UPS envelope (ours too was more than 1lb but the ups guy said it was fine) and mailed it on Tuesday July 8th. I received a call about a week ago from Jardine claiming that they didn't receive the sticker. I explained about it not coming off and how I was told to mail the picture. He asked if I could email it instead (no problem) so that very minute, I emailed the picture to them along with a reference number he gave me. Since then, I've heard nothing. I called them today and was told that the voucher had not gone out but she didn't know why and that it was possible they hadn't received my recall package yet. I became furious and recounted the whole story about how I knew they received it b/c someone had already called me about the sticker. I asked to speak to a manager and was told that she would put me on the supervisor call list whatever ... that is. I too have a feeling I'm never going to receive a voucher and will have to purchase another crib as ours can't even be reused since we had to mail them the hardware from it.

I suggest we all send information to the attorney at CPSC working on the Jardine recall. Her information is below. I just sent her an email about this fiasco and attached a letter that I sent to Fox Five News. This is totally unacceptable what is happening. I urge everyone to let her know how serious this situation is.

I'm in tears with this whole thing. I've been waiting and waiting and calling and calling. My baby has nowhere to sleep and I cannot afford to foot another $400 for a crib. I've called FOX NEWS and you need to TOO!!! I'm never going to get my voucher, good luck and I feel others pain.

Well, it seems as though many of you have gotten to the very step I am afraid of getting to. I initially entered my information on the www.jardinecribrecall.com website. After 2 weeks I had still not received anything in the mail. I placed my 1st call to Jardine and the customer service rep very kindly told me he would reenter my information and assured me the initial package would be sent out 2nd day air and upon the return of my hardware, my voucher would be expedited to me. After waiting another 5 days (including the weekend) I placed my second call to Jardine. I was now told that a 3rd package would be sent out to me, this time overnight, and once I return the required information and hardware that my voucher will be expedited to me. I should have received the package yesterday (7/23/08), but I am giving them (Jardine) the benefit of the doubt and waiting one more day. My husband is very apprehensive about taking apart our crib so it will be completely useless and being in a situation that many of you are in.

We purchased our crib in 2004 for our 2nd daughter who is now sleeping in a regular bed, BUT...I am pregnant with number 3 and will need this crib very soon. Fortunately, baby is not due until October, so I have some time still. I feel for all of the parents who have moved their children out of their Jardine cribs in an effort to protect their children and are now in a situation where they are at the mercy of a company who has no desire to correct their mistakes.

Someone needs to step in and make this situation right and it needs to happen FAST!!!

I have been waiting now almost 4 weeks to recieve the kit, I called last week and was told it would be 2 day expressed mailed however only to find out today that it was not expressed mailed and that I should be expecting the kit tommorow. What is even more ridiculous is that they expect you to take the crib apart and return it to them before thety send you a voucher, and this process is suppose totake another 1-2 weeks. I called and demaned a supervisor, which is unavailable, I will be purchasing a new crib today not form babies r us and expect tor efunded for the cost of my crib if I am not I will report Jardiens horrible customer service and lack of concern for the well being of the children sleeping in these defected cribs to every media outlet that I can get hold of.

Things went smoothly for us _until_ we got a voucher for about $20 less than what we were quoted over the phone. Two separate customer reps agreed that we got the wrong voucher. Last rep asked for our phone number and said the company would be in touch with us. Still nothing after almost 24 hours. Everyone -- check your vouchers carefully when (if?) they arrive!

I finally have a kit. After waiting and waiting. Along with countless phone calls into the 1-800 number only to be told the same thing every time by recall operators who seemed to be just as frustrated with Jardine as I am. Finally yesterday I got a tracking number and my kit is finally here a month later.

Some advice for those seeking it. From my experience with the recall hotline. The operators are all understanding and just as frustrated with Jardine as we are. From what I was told they are not even associated with Jardine, the recall hotline was just outsourced to their call center. Their supervisors have nothing more to offer than the operators. I was finally given anumber to call Jardine directly from a young girl on the hotline who seemed eager to let me have a shot to vent to Jardine. Thus, be nice to these people on the phone. They are doing everything they can. Submitting requests, passing along notes and concerns. It is Jardine who cant seem to do anything right, not those poor people. If you are as frustrated as I was, ask for Jardine's number, call the CPSC, the BBB, the news, just dont try to get a supervisor or you will be left even more deflated. Trust me, there is no way this company will survive this, especially if we channel our frustrations to the proper outlets.

I have been waiting for a month ( seven phone calls to cust service) was already told it would be "expedited"-- that was 2 weeks ago...and was even given a ups "tracking #)- which doesn't exist wehn I went on UPS.com!!

This is horrible! It has been over a month, with 3 phone calls and I still have no kit to return the crib pieces with. what a joke this company is. i too wondered what my daughter was supposed to sleep in after we dissasembled her bed! Im thankful we were able to purchase another crib while we wait, but I feel awful for people who cannot afford to do this. Honestly I dont think we will get our money back until the Holidays. Thanks to the PP with the attorney info, will be contacting them!

I agree where will my daughter sleep while wait forever to get the voucher. I tried to call the 800 number this morning and it keeps disconnecting me. Not sure if anyone else is having the same issues.
At this point we may just purchase another crib rather than wait for Jardine.

I don't know about it being easy for a baby to break - but we bought our jardine crib twice because the first one had a leg snapped off in the box! It took 4 months for a replacement to arrive... we are so unhappy with the shoddy care. I sent in my package with the bolts, sticker and a letter telling them just what I thought about it all... nothing now for nearly three weeks and I am wondering if they will pretend not to have received it? I still have the wooden parts in my hallway because I don't dare throw them out while I am waiting... what a mess!

I received my kit--actually about 4 kits. The problem is--where will our daughter sleep when we take the hardware off. This is ridiculous. I would much rather send the hardware back--AFTER I've gotten the voucher. They can control this easily. They know who they send vouchers for and I am sure they all have different voucher numbers. Babies-R-Us, Toys-R-Us should simply send the vouchers back as they are redeemed to Jardine. This should be linked by our names--if we don't send back the hardware--then they should be able to bill us. We can't go out and buy another crib--nor do we want to. This isn't our fault--but yet the important consumer--THE CHILD--is going to inconvienced as well as the parent. Seems to me Jardine should have better arrangements--or maybe they simply don't care--they issued the recall--guess they've done their part. But hey--it isn't the parent's fault JARDINE's item is defected!!! This is ridicious!!!

I originally bought my Jardine crib in 2003 when my son was born, and the crib side rail DID actually break when he was about 2 years old - I phoned the company then and they sent me a brand new side rail, free of charge. Now I'm concerned using the crib for my 7 month old daughter - my side rail is brand new, but should I still replace the crib? After reading all of the complaints about poor service from the company, I'm debating on whether or not to even start the process.

Just wanted to see if anyone has actually received a voucher. I sent Jardine my recall package almost 4 weeks ago and haven't heard anything.

I posted a couple weeks ago and still have no voucher. My kit was mailed into Jardine on July 8th, they called me on July 15th to ask about the sticker which I emailed them a picture of that day. I've called several times since then and have been told each time that it will be 2 weeks from the date they received ALL the pieces (so 2 weeks from the 15th) Its been 3 weeks now since then and still nada. The poor people on the phone don't actually work for Jardine and can only tell us if their spreadsheet says a voucher has gone out and then put us on a list to be called by a supervisor. We've been on that list for 2 weeks with no phone call. If Jardine really intended to give every customer a crib voucher, they would have worked it out with babies r us to have the customer return the crib directly to the store and get the voucher right then and there. The way this has been handled so far tells me that they don't have the $$ for vouchers for everyone and they are mailing them out as they get $$ to give babies r us for them. When they run out of $$ (and they will) they will just declare bankruptcy and everyone will be out of luck. We actually received multiple recall kits via UPS so I'm sorry for those of you who have been waiting on your recall kits. At least if you haven't received the kit yet, you haven't taken the crib apart and still have the option of maybe reinforcing the spindles and still using your crib. We've been crib-less for a month now. If Jardine doesn't come through with a voucher, we wil be forced to buy a new crib.

I am in the same position. I filled out the info, got them the hardware, etc. they asked for and waited and wait....for nothing...no voucher...nothing! Then, i called, sw a gentleman who said they had received my package and that he would expedite the voucher to me within three days...that was 3 weeks ago. Now everytime i call, during their "so called" business hours they do not answer and the recording says they are closed and to call back during regular business hours! I have left 3 messages they never call back....i am so frustrated...i am wondering if babies r us could help? Babies R Us did say that you can buy a crib online or in the store and save your receipt and they will reimburse you...i just dont want to put out another $400 and not be sure that I am going to get my voucher! I am worried the company is going to go out of business then none of us will get anything!!! Ugh!!!

I agree with all that has been said. It took me 1 1/2 months to get my packet to send the things off. Well, in the meantime, I looked around at the other stores to view their cribs. I can't tell you how tiffed I became when I realized that NONE of the cribs available will match my cherry changing table. I called Jardine to see if they were in the process of making new, nondefective cribs, they were NOT. I'm am more furious that my new crib will not match after spending so much time picking it out in the first place. Thanks, Jardine. I will NEVER use your products again. I hope that this causes them to go out of business. Good luck to everyone else.

I don't think that any of us will ever rec'v vouchers. I sent my crib parts back on July 8th and have never rec'd anything. They have confirmed to me that they rec'd it on the 16th and they keep saying that they sent me a voucher, but I have only rec'd three kits to take it apart. I have called their call center multiple times, but each time they put me on hold while they speak with a supervisor, and then they assure me that they will have a voucher overnighted to me. Today the call center gave me another 800 number to call Jardine directly. After calling it, I found out that it is just another call center that handles calls for Jardine. (It is 1-800-295-1980 if anyone else wants to give it a try.) After sitting on hold for about 20 minutes waiting to talk to someone, they have assured me that they will send me a voucher and that they will call me back with a tracking number at the end of the day. Yeah right. I am very skeptical. I tried looking on-line for a Jardine official website or a Corporate office information to contact them directly, but I can't find anything on-line. They are probably in China. &(%@^$*! I have considered contacting my local Attorney General's office, but I don't know if they can help or not. I think that all of us are probably just out of luck. Meanwhile, my 16 month old has been sleeping in a pack and play for the last month and 1/2. They have said that I can just go purchase another crib at Babies R Us and then use the supposed voucher when I get it to get a refund. I am not buying anything until I get a voucher. Why would I spend another $300-$400 to get another crib that I may never get a voucher for? I am considering just purchasing a twin sized bed and putting the mattress on the floor and then gating her door so she can't get out. Just seems like it might have been safer to keep her in the recalled crib to begin with, but I couldn't take that chance either.

For those of you who have not received your kits - call Jardine. I was told that all the registered data for the first 3-4 days was lost (when I registered) I too waited a month and finally called them. Then I received TWO kits via UPS. Then, believe it or not, within 2 weeks I received two vouchers - BEFORE I even sent in the parts (The crib is still up!) Babies R Us will allow you to order a crib online (you will need to pay for it) then bring your voucher in along with your packing slip and get a full refund - plus shipping. This will allow you to keep using your crib, get the new one then exchange the voucher. Good Luck!

I received my vouvcher very quickly- 1.5 weeks after I sent in the hardware. I took the voucher to BRU and low and behold......................they had NOT ONE SINGLE white crib in stock and only one white crib that was able to be ordered. My original crib cost $219, and was very simple, sturdy, and neutral looking. Not only did they not have a crib that was comparable in look or style, they had no cribs that were remotely the same price. I had to pay over $150 out of pocket for the only crib that was available to order (I checked every single BRU in NJ). This crib will take over a week to arrive and my daughter is still sleeping in her pack n play. How can BRU not have a comparable crib to replace the recalled one?? What if I did not have an extra $150 to pay the difference? The staff at BRU in Eatontown was very nice, but the whole situation made me so angry. I'll never buy baby furniture from them again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have our voucher, but are running into problems finding a similar replacement crib. BRU and Jardine are totally screwing the consumers on this one. We had a drop-side crib; guess what? There are practically no white drop-side cribs available at BRU or their website. There are plenty of convertible cribs, which is what BRU wants. They cost more money, which means more money for BRU. BRU (so far) has refused to give us our money back. Whatever happened to standing by your products, etc., etc. BRU simply doesn't care -- that's evident when they say it's Jardine's problem.
I'm currently seeking a refund through Jardine, but am not hopeful.

I feel everyone's pain. My 8 month old is starting week 6 in a pack and play. We finally got the voucher a a two weeks ago, and we live approximately 4 hours away from the nearest Babiesrus. My husband and I went online prior to going to the store so we would already know which crib met our specifications (basically just like the recalled one). Once we got to the store, the cribs were all approximately $100+ than our voucher. We were told that we could take 15% off one of them, but only if we bought it in store, basically spending even more money, which I absolutely refuse to do. We found out though that even if we would have bought one in store, they don't keep any in stock, so we would have had to wait another two weeks and driven another 8 hours round trip to pick it up. Needless to say, we didn't want to do that. We were then told that we could buy it online with our credit card and then have it credited to our credit card when we brought in both the shipping slip and the voucher. We were able to find one, and only one, crib that matched or specifications online at babiesrus. That crib is "temporarily out of stock". It has been temporarily out of stock for the last week. I even did the e mail when it was available, and when I received it, it was unavailable by the time I got to the website. I ended up calling the babiesrus online phone number and spoke to someone there, who gave me Jardine's number (1800-295-1980), and I was told to try calling them because they should be able to do something to help. I called that number and was basically told that the "supervisor" was the person I need to talk to, but he wasn't there. I was then told to send an e mail to das@dorell.com. Do you think I've received a response to that? NO!!! I finally gave up and called the Consumer Protection Safety Commission at (800) 646-4106. I just got off the phone with them, who stated that someone from the Compliance Department should be contacting me soon. Hopefully that will help. I'm also to the point of also contacting the Minnesota Attorney General's Office. At this point I figure the more people who complain to the right people may make something happen.

For those who are interested in getting ahold of someone who could actually make a difference:

Deborah.Derby@toysrus.com Deb Derby - President, Babies R Us

My wife and I also had to return our crib. We have been waiting for 5 weeks and still nothing. Our 4 month daughter is sleeping in her pack and play. I called Jardine to ask them what happens if my crib does not match and the sales rep told me that this is out of her hands. This is so un real. This company is horrible there product is horrible, there customer service is horrible. Everything about this is horrible. Oh yea our changing table (4 months old) is chipping and falling apart. Guess what brand ??

All I wanted was a crib equivalent to my cherry crib that matched the whole set I bought at babie r us. As there was not a single drop side cherry crib equal to what I had I refused to be out of pocket and fought it. I am still waiting to hear back from 2 people at Jardine from whom I was promised a call back. That is a joke and I gave up there a month ago. They deserve to go out of business and hope from the bottom of my heart that they do!

However, on a happy note, it it now 1.5 months from the start of this fiasco I am finally reimbursed the voucher value plus $181 which includes the difference of what a new crib cost plus the cost of tax and shipping.

I refused to be out of pocket a single penny for this and fought it through Babies R Us...who should ultimately be responsible to their customers. You too should all fight it and get your money back. It was a struggle for me with lots of phone calls and a couple of trips to babies r us, but it was worth it in the end. Again, I wasn't asking for something bigger and better...just a crib as equivalent to what I had as possible.

Good luck everyone!!!

After reading these I am scared now! I was just wondering what my baby would sleep in while I mailed the parts away. I think I want to buy a crib now while I am waiting. Can anyone tell me how much the voucher is for? I got the white crib 5 years ago. Amazingly it has made it through my first 2 babies and now the third is in it. I just wanted to know how much to spend about? Or is every voucher different?

not sure why so many people are stating that they aren't being given coupons worth what they paid. i've sent back my recall kit and am awaiting the coupon...the letter they sent me said that they would send a coupon worth the highest value that my particular crib EVER sold for + tax....so if you don't get back what you paid...isn't that the fault of the store you purchased from...didn't they sorta rip you off? i haven't gotten the coupon yet, so i don't know maybe they are telling me a fib...only time will tell.

You will get what you paid...whatever amount they've told you on the phone. But good luck finding a crib equivalent to what you have for the amount of money they are allowing you to spend. Most people, including myself, couldn't find anything in store that would be an acceptable replacement for the old crib. That means ordering online. If you can even find something online, then you are responsible for shipping. I refused to accept that and fought it with Babies R Us. I ended up getting back $52 shipping and $100+ on overage costs for an equivalent crib. So, yes, you should get back the value you paid. But, good luck finding a crib without spending more money.

If you are lucky and still have your receipt from the crib, Babies R Us has to take it back and give you store credit, It is part of there policy. I just got off the phone with a manager in Maryland.

I just received my return kit and I'm furious. My son is 2 1/2 and sleeping in a convertible crib which has already been converted to a "big boy" bed. Where the heck is he supposed to sleep if I have to disassemble his bed? This whole process is designed to guarantee you have to go buy another bed out of your own pocket which means you'll have no use for the voucher when you get it. How can they get away with this?

After reading all the comments, I decided to try and avoid going through Jardin at all cost so I searched the Babies R Us Policys and found on their website under -Help/returning a recalled product- the following:

"Nothing is more important than the safety of your children. To that end, we will gladly accept returns on recalled items. If you choose to return your item to our Online Return Center, a refund will be processed to the original method of payment as long as the item is accompanied by your packing slip. If you choose to return the item to one of our retail stores, a refund will be processed to the original method of payment if your have your packing slip, or to a Toys"R"Us merchandise credit card if you do not have your packing slip."

My husband called up the local Babiesrus and spoke to the managers and one manager said that since it is store policy, she will take it back with or without a receipt for store credit. We called up another Babiesrus that was a little closer and that manager said she couldn't take it back and we had to go through Jardine. So I guess it all depends on the store manager.

So it may be helpful to call up your local Babiesrus stores and talk to the manager and say according to your website the policy is to take back all recalls for a store credit.

I have had the same frustrations that many others have expressed - next to no white, drop-side cribs and less than helpful staff at two stores and BRU's "special Jardine hotline". When I did bit the bullet and order a more expensive crib online, that one, a Simplicity, was recalled a month later! I am done buying baby furniture at BRU. The only reason I will still shop there for other items is because today, the assistant and district managers at my local store gave me a BRU gift card in exchange for my voucher after I spoke to them. I need to buy a carseat for baby #2, so that at least frees up the cash to shop elsewhere for a crib.

My advice - go to your local store and don't give in until they give you either a gift card or your money back.

I am beyond frustrated. I received my return kit quickly, but I am still waiting on the voucher. Voucher was signed for by someone at Jardine on 9/5. I called today to find out the status, and was told that it was sent out by FedEx on 9/10, was scanned somewhere in CA on 9/11, but wasn't scanned after that. The person I spoke to said that he's seen "at least a dozen" vouchers that were lost by FedEx on 9/11. Said he'd have to email his supervisor to issue another voucher, and it should take about a week to get it mailed again. Sounds fishy to me - I can't imagine FedEx would lose a bunch of items. But, I guess we'll see. I'll call again next Friday to check on the status.

I'm lucky in that my toddler was ready to move to a twin bed about the same time that the recall happened, but I'm 8 months pregnant and we don't have the money to pay up front to replace the crib until the voucher shows up. My biggest worry now (other than wondering when the voucher will show up) is finding a crib at BRU that is comparable in price that won't take weeks to order.

Does anyone have any experiance with receiving vouchers for two cribs? I am awaiting my vouchers, but am concerned that I am going to have a hard time at BRU. My twins are in beds now, but I am three weeks away from delivering another baby.

After reading all the horror stories about how Jardine was handling this situation--and the fear that they would go out of business before I got my voucher--I decided to contact the local Toys-R-Us where I purchased my daughters crib. They were extremely helpful!!! Their policy states they will return defective or recalled merchandise. I did have to bring the crib and hardware back to them--not a problem. Since I no longer had my receipt--they gave me a merchandise credit. No, it wasn't for the full value I paid for the crib--which I completely understood--because I bought in back in Sept. of 2005. They did however give me a voucher for more than I thought I was going to get. Instead of dealing with Jardine--you should check with the place you purchased your crib from. They will make it right-- and please remember--IT ISN'T THEIR FAULT!! There are so many recalls going on from toys, cribs, pack and plays etc--it is the manufacturers fault not Toys-R-Us or Babies-R-Us. The United States needs to start limiting its imports from CHINA!!! Then we will all be able to rest again. I do like the lower prices for things from China--but look where it gets us!!! I am willing to pay more for a US product now!!!

My son was 9 months old when he was trying to pull himself up and the crib spindles broke. I went to Babies R Us several times and they wouldn't return it or help me. The manager suggested that I try to glue it!! All they did was keep giving me numbers to call Jardine because it wasn't their problem. Every number they gave me was wrong, disconnected, or a fax number. I couldn't find a website for Jardine to email them. Now over a year later, they finally did a recall and are going to send me a voucher for a new crib. Too bad my voucher won't cover the cost of a new bed for him. And when we have a new baby-do I want anything from Babies R Us OR Jardine? nope.

Hello! I have the PERFECT solution!!! Go to toys R Us or babies R us website and at the bottom of the website, click on policy. Then it leads you to a page on the left there's a recall products link. In that recall statement it says that getting the recalled product out of the child's hands is the number one priority. etc etc and then they will either reimburse you if you have the receipt OR they will give you credit for the crib's price that they sell. I was lucky enough to have the receipt so I could purchase from anywhere getting away from the Babies R us issue. I spent 3 days calling between babies r us and jardine and neither one of them offered this solution and once I found it was there and read it back, they said, bring in the crib and we'll refund the money no matter how long it was that you purchased it!! this way you get your money to buy elsewhere OR you at least get money and not have to wait for the voucher which takes forever!!!

bought the jardine crib bc-110w and used it for my daughter until she was 16 months and graduated out of it to a bed. then used it for my son, who came along 1 month later, and he just moved out of it at the age of two. NEVER had a problem with the crib. 40+ broken slat claims out of 100k+ sold - lead to a panic of people rushing to return the crib....and then have to listen to them claim how much more another crib will cost them. you bought a cheap crib - a much better one is going to cost more. if you have one and your kid isnt kicking the slats and jumping all over it (if he/she is they probably need to graduate out), then just use it. when you're finished, get your voucher and sell the voucher on craigslist for $50 less than its worth.

My crib was one of the ones that has most recently been recalled (in April 2009). Most of the comments regarding the horrible return experiences were about a year or so ago. Has anyone had good or bad experiences lately? Has the recall procedures gotten better or worse? I just don't want to disassemble my crib, have my son sleep in his pack and play or months on end, and continually fight with Jardin. It is just not worth it.

Thanks in advance!

Why is everyone saying they aren't getting much back? Jardine is giving me back $369 (voucher) for a new crib. They are giving us what ever the highest sales price was for our crib. I have found a TON of cribs I can get for the price.

THIS WAS A NIGHTMARE!!!!!!!! I bought a $400 Madison crib and was given a $219.99 voucher.
I had also purchased the entire bedroom including dresser and changing table. Trying to find a comparable crib for $219 that ACTUALLY matched the rest of my furniture was hell. No one at BRU was willing to help I went to a location 1hr away and found a Carter's crib on clearance. Since I would never take a JARDINE crib again even if someone paid me $100 to take it. Ok course the Carter's crib was not available but I was offered the floor model which I had to come back to pick up since they could not take it apart....something about policy. Then I get it home and I can't get it in my son's room! The instruction manual they provided was for the wrong crib....I am wating for someone from BRU to call me back.......At this rate my son will be in college and not need a crib.

Yes, NIGHTMARE. I had to take my crib apart, send in all the hardware. Meanwhile, my daughter had no bed.. while I waited the short time to receive the voucher. OKay... so I got the voucher, good ONLY at Babies r us! Did they have a matching crib for the voucher price? NO! I bought an entire nursery and now they want me to shell out more money... I dont think so. If I had known this was how it worked, I would have kept the defective crib and still been the best mom in the world :) Toys R Us and babies R Us are lousy when it comes to returns.... they make it very hard for the consumer.

Hey does anyone know if the Jardine Madison 4 in 1 crib Model # DA812bc is on recall. It kind of broke apart on us and our son has been sleeping with us the whole entire time. I saw that someone had a madison crib and got a voucher for it. Do you think that i would be able to get a voucher too. We paid $341.99 for it and that was only about a year ago. I tried to call the help number 1 800 295 1980 but that was a dead end and so i called directly to babiesrus. they gave me another number to call 1 800 646 4106. I haven't called them yet but i just wanted to know what my options are.

I have a jardine modle#da812bc crib can any body email me if this one is on recall. Its not showing up on the recall page but i want to make sure.
