Two of this week's recalls involved faulty batteries or battery connections in toy boats and headsets, which created fire hazards. And sadly, the death of a baby boy in Brooklyn prompted the recall of a convertible crib with mesh sides.
New salmonella warning over microwaving raw frozen chicken entrees

The U.S. Department of Agriculture once again is warning consumers to read the label when cooking frozen chicken entrees amid the fourth salmonella outbreak in four years linked to raw frozen entrees.
There have been 34 cases this year of salmonella food poisoning in at least 12 states from eating undercooked chicken.

EPA tightens limit on airborne lead

Three decades after removing lead from gasoline, the Environmental Protection Agency is slashing the amount of the toxic metal that will be allowed in the nation's air by 90 percent. EPA officials, under a federal court order to set a new standard by midnight Wednesday [10/22], said the limit would better protect public health, especially for children. They can inhale lead particles released from smelters, mines and waste incinerators and ingest it after it settles on surfaces. Read more ...
