Lead poisoning diagnosis prompts recall of Munire cribs and furniture
Dec 23, 2008 12:02 PM

090752 After a child was diagnosed with lead poisoning, Munire has recalled 3,000 cribs and 6,000 pieces of matching furniture because the finish violates the lead paint standard. According to the recall notice issued by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the child ingested some of the lead paint but no further details were available.

According to the CPSC, the red paint that is underneath the black finish paint on some of the Newport 4-in-1 cribs and matching furniture is tainted with lead. The cribs and matching items were sold at specialty furniture stores nationwide from April 2006 through November 2008 for about $600 for the crib; the matching furniture pieces sold for between $700 and $1,000. Owners of the recalled items are advised to stop using them and to contact Munire Furniture to receive a coupon entitling them to free replacements.

Only the “Newport Rubbed Black” cribs and matching furniture manufactured in Indonesia between April 2006 and November 2008 are included in this recall. The model number, date, and country of manufacture are printed on the label attached to the side panel of the crib and the date of manufacture is on the back panel of the furniture. Models listed below are included in the recall:

  • 7900—Newport Lifetime Crib
  • 7918—Hutch for Combo & Double Dresser
  • 7915—Mirror
  • 7908—Combo
