Pins discovered in pot pies sold as school fundraisers
January 21, 2010 3:20 PM
Frozen chicken pot pies sold in 15 states as school fundraisers were recalled by Park 100 Foods of Indiana today after metal straight pins were discovered in one of the pies. Almost 20,000 pounds of pies were distributed for the schools by Market Day, a company that promises: "A fundraiser like no other." Indeed.

The full-sized pies with a lattice crust came in 2.5-pound cartons labeled "Market Day, Chicken pot pie, Made With All White Chicken Meat." They were produced on October 9, 2009, and were distributed by Market Day through Internet or catalog sales in Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

Each carton bears a Julian date "28209" which is located on the right side panel, an order number "7138" and the establishment number "P-6882" inside the USDA mark of inspection.

The problem was discovered after Market Day received a customer complaint about finding metal straight pins in a pie. The federal Food Safety and Inspection Service has not received any consumer complaints or reports of injury at this time. Anyone concerned about an injury from eating a pot pie should contact their physician.

Consumers with questions about the recall can contact company Corporate Director of Quality Jim Fish at (317) 853-4280.
