Ho, ho, ho! No, no, no! (It's cadmium)
March 11, 2010 5:12 PM
In testing done for the AP, the Rudolph charm contained 91 percent cadmium. Like lead, cadmium can cause developmental problems in children. This is the second recall for cadmium made by the CPSC since an AP investigation published earlier this year found that some children's jewelry was made almost entirely of the heavy metal. The first recall was for "Princess and the Frog" necklaces sold exclusively by Walmart.
The CPSC has no record of how many of the bracelets were sold over the three-year period they were in dollar stores (2006 to 2009). And the company that imported them has gone out of business following other jewelry recalls for lead violations so there will be no refunds.
If your child found one of these trinkets in her stocking or under the tree, dispose of it. The bracelets aren't even fit for the Island of Misfit Toys.

I think we've had enough of toxic metals in kids products. Please support the Center for Environmental Health's work in eliminating toxics from our lives. Take action today to tell your reps to support the Children's Toxic Metals Act (HR 4428), banning cadmium and other toxic metals from jewelery for children.
