Recall: Napa Home & Garden gel fuel due to fire and burn hazards
Jun 23, 2011 11:15 AM

Napa Home & Garden today announced the recall of about 460,000 bottles and jugs of gel fuel used to light decorative firepots, due to fire and burn hazards.

The Georgia-based company is recalling its pourable NAPAfire and FIREGEL gel fuels because they’ve been linked to 37 incidents, including 23 burn injuries, involving consumers in recent months.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission last week announced they had launched an investigation into the incidents. Consumers have reported that the gel fuels can ignite unexpectedly and splatter onto people and objects nearby when they are poured into a still-burning firepot.

The gel fuels are clear and pourable, and are sold in non-scented and citronella scents. They are packaged in clear one-quart plastic bottles and one-gallon plastic jugs at retailers such as Bed, Bath, & Beyond, Shopko, Restoration Hardware, and home and garden retailers nationwide.

Consumers can return the recalled products for a full refund at the retailer where the fuel was purchased. For more information, call Napa Home & Garden at (888)-893-2323 or visit www.napahomeandgarden.com.
