2012 Cadillac CTS sedans recalled for possible brake failure
Nov 11, 2011 1:15 PM

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is issuing a recall notice for 2012 model year Cadillac CTS sport sedans. Approximately 674 of the General Motors vehicles are plagued with loose nuts that could lead to unexpected brake failure.

NHTSA says the fault lies with nuts designed to hold the car's brake pedal to its pushrod. On some Cadillac CTS sedans, produced from Oct. 21 through Oct.26, those retention nuts weren't tightened to the correct amount of torque. Should the nuts become loose, the pedal and pushrod may unexpectedly separate, causing a complete loss brakes and increase the risk of collision.

General Motors is contacting affected customers, advising owners to bring their 2012 Cadillac CTS in to local dealers. Mechanics there will inspect the vehicle and tighten the brake retention nuts to the proper specifications, free of charge.

For more information, consumers can call Cadillac at 800-458-8006, or visit the NHTSA website: www.SaferCar.gov.
