Recall: Best Buy battery case for iPhone 3G/3GS—fire hazard
Nov 30, 2011 2:45 PM

Best Buy has recalled about 31,000 Rocketfish mobile battery cases for the iPhone 3G and 3GS, and about 1,000 additional Rocketfish battery cases in Canada, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reported today.

While charging, the battery case can overheat, posing a fire hazard. The CPSC and Best Buy have received about 14 reports of the Rocketfish battery cases overheating, including three reports of minor burns to consumers, and four reports of minor property damage.

The Rocketfish mobile battery case is made of lightweight, soft-touch rubberized material. Designed to hold the phone securely the case comes with a built-in battery. The model number, RF-KL12, is printed in three different locations: On the front of the case packaging, on the packaging barcode, and (in white print) on the curved inner surface of the case.

The recalled battery cases were sold at Best Buy stores nationwide, online, and at Future Shop and Best Buy stores in Canada, for $10 to $60, from April 2010 through September 2011.

Consumers should immediately stop using the battery case and contact Best Buy for instructions on returning the product and receiving a $70 gift card ($105 in Canada). For more information call Best Buy at 800-917-5737 or visit www.bestbuy.com, or www.bestbuy.ca or www.futureshop.ca (Canada).
