Recall: 2001-2002 Ford Escape—Possible brake fluid leak can lead to corrosion
Jan 11, 2012 10:30 AM

Ford has recalled about 245,000 Escape vehicles from model year 2001 to 2002, that are equipped with a brake master cylinder reservoir cap that could leak brake fluid, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported.

If brake fluid leaks from the cap, it could come in contact with the antilock brake system module wiring harness connector, and corrosion in the electrical connector can lead to melting, smoke, or fire.

The recalled vehicles were manufactured from October 22, 1999, through July 19, 2002.

Ford dealers will replace the brake master cylinder reservoir cap and the ABS electrical system will be modified. Ford expects to notify owners starting the week of January 23, 2012, but due to a parts delay, the remedy may not be available at that time. If parts are not available, Ford will instruct owners to park their Escape vehicles outside until parts become available.

Ford's safety recall number is 11S24. This Ford recall campaign is related to 07V-156

For more information, owners can call Ford at 866-436-7332, or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit www.SaferCar.gov.
