Recall: Steelcase Amia desk chairs—seat can fall apart, posing fall hazard
Jan 18, 2012 2:15 PM

Steelcase, of Grand Rapids, Mich., has recalled about 11,000 of its Amia desk chairs, because the pivot pins installed in the control mechanism under the chair seat can fall out, posing a fall hazard to the user, the Consumer Product Safety Commission reported today.

The recalled chairs were sold for $350 to $700, at authorized Steelcase dealers and retail outlets including Healthy Back Store, CSN, Home Office Solutions, Office & Company, and Sam Flax stores nationwide and online at www.store.steelcase.com from March through June of 2011.

No incidents or injuries have been reported in relations to this recall.

The recall includes the model 482 Series Steelcase Amia desk chairs manufactured between March 1 and June 6, 2011. The model number and manufacture date are printed on a label on the underside of the chair seat. The seats are available in various colored fabric options, as well as leather.

Consumers should stop using the chairs and contact Steelcase to receive adhesive covers to apply over the pivot pins on the recalled chairs. The pin adhesive covers can be applied in less than five minutes without the use of a tool. Steelcase is contacting all known purchasers.
