More than 68,750 Toyo Extensa all-season tires are being recalled by its manufacture the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said today. Certain sizes of the tire have a manufacturing flaw which could cause failure and increase the risk of collision and injury, warns the federal regulators.
According to the NHTSA, the P225/60R16 97T size of the Extensa, produced by Toyo Tire Holdings from September 2009 through November 2010, were manufactured with a kink in the bead area of the tire. The manufacturing flaw could lead to a crack in the tire, near a car's rim. And if the crack is left undetected, the tire may fail and the driver may lose control of the vehicle and possibly crash.
In February, Toyo is expected to notify customers affected by this recall to have the tires replaced free of charge.
