Kia Motors has issued a recall for nearly 22,000 of its 2009 Borrego sport utility vehicles said the National Highway traffic Safety Administration. Certain versions of the Kia SUV are equipped with non-adjustable brake pedals composed of a fiberglass material that may break during a collision and fail to stop the Borrego completely.

According to NHTSA, unless a driver of a recalled Kia Borrego SUV takes additional steps—use the manual parking brake, for instance—the recalled SUV could continue to roll after an impact and lead to further collisions and possible injuries.

The recall of 2009 Borrego SUVs is the second safety notice Kia has issued in as many days. The Korean motor company announced on Tuesday a recall of 2006-2008 Kia Rio sedans for front air bag issues.

Kia will begin notifying owners affected by the Borrego to bring their recalled SUVs in to local dealerships where the fiberglass brake mounts will be replaced for free.
