General Motors has announced a recall of several vehicle models in seven warm-weather states over concerns that certain fuel-system plastic parts may break and cause a fire, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The recall affects the following GM cars and sport-utility vehicles models sold in states such as Arkansas, Arizona, California, Florida, Oklahoma, Nevada, and Texas:

• 2007-2009 Chevrolet Cobalt sedans
• 2007-2009 Pontiac G5 sedans
• 2007 Chevrolet Equinox SUVs
• 2007 Pontiac Torrent SUVs
• 2007 Saturn Ion sedans

According to NHTSA, the plastic parts in those vehicles' fuel pumps may crack and cause a fuel leak, increasing the risk of an engine fire. The safety agency says affected owners will be notified about this recall, and the faulty fuel pumps will be replaced for free.
