Drivers of 2012 Hyundai Veloster sports cars, beware. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has received complaints that the car's panoramic sunroofs may unexpectedly break and shower occupants inside the vehicle with glass shards.
The safety agency has received nearly a dozen reports of the suddenly shattering sports car sunroofs. More than half of the complaints allege the roof-mounted glass inexplicably broke while the Hyundai Veloster was being driven. Reports of only minor scratches to drivers and passengers by falling glass shards have been received by the NHTSA.
Engineers at Hyundai and the NHTSA's Office of Defect Investigations will probe for what's causing the Veloster's sunroof to shatter and help determine if an official recall of the 2012 Hyundai Veloster is needed.
The recall, if issued, may affect nearly 18,000 Velosters—a recent best car for 2012 pick by Consumer Reports.
