1.7 million Royal Prestige thermal-wall pots and pans recalled due to burn and fire hazard
Jan 18, 2013 3:30 PM

Hy Cite Enterprises has recalled 1.7 million Royal Prestige 9-Ply thermal-wall pots and pans because they can collapse, crimp, or severely deform when exposed to heat, posing a burn and fire hazard.

The company is aware of 1,136 reports of cookware collapsing, crimping, or deforming, including one report of someone getting spattered with hot oil when the pan collapsed inward while cooking.

Sold door-to-door by independent distributors of Hy Cite Enterprises for $250 to $800 for individual pots and pans, and $800 to $3,500 for sets, the recalled cookware has a seal imprinted on the bottom that includes "Thermal Wall" and "9-Ply."

The following are included in the recall:

  • 1.5 qt. saucepans
  • 2 qt. saucepans
  • 3, 4, 6, and 8 qt. Dutch ovens
  • 8-inch and 10.5-inch skillets
  • 10-inch and 14-inch paella pans

The Hy Cite Royal Prestige cookware is not in our Ratings (available to subscribers). If you're in need of a new pot or pan, check out our cookware buying guide.

If you own any of the recalled Royal Prestige cookware, stop using it and contact Hy Cite for instructions for sending the cookware to the firm for repair. (Damaged pots and pans will be replaced.)
